Chapter 4: Who Is He?

His green-like eyes met mine as he walked closer to me. I felt as if my heart was ready to burst out of my chest.

"I'm so sorry," I moved my lips, feeling how my whole body trembled.

His short hair was tied in a ponytail, causing his face to look even more handsome than it already was. He smiled at me, showing his white teeth.

I tried to find something to say, but my tongue was tied in knots, "here you go." He leaned as he handed me my handkerchief.

I took it from him.

The closer he got to me, the more my stomach was turning. I was sweating from head to toe, 'this isn't good.' I thought to myself.

"So, have you been working here for a long time?" He asked as he leaned back.

His red cheeks quickly turned to a pink colour as he realised what he was doing.

"Y-yes, I have," I nodded.

He was looking down at the ground. He seemed embarrassed to ask me anything else. I was surprised, I didn't think he would be interested in knowing anything about me. He placed his hand on the back of his neck and gently started rubbing it. His hand movements were slow and soft.

"Do you live in the neighbourhood?" He asked.

He was keeping his distance between us, which was making me feel uncomfortable.

I hesitated for a moment, "yes, I do."

"That's great," he smiled at me, and his cheeks became slightly darker.

His front neck was exposed as he was leaning forward, making me stare at his collarbone. I could hear my heart pounding fast and I was shivering.

He didn't seem to notice my frozen body. His attention was now focused on his phone screen, the naked skin of his shoulders visible under his grey shirt, I saw him having a tattoo.

"What does it mean?" I blurted out.

He looked up at me, his eyebrows raised in surprise.

"Huh?" He tilted his head to the side.

I frowned and stared at him, "your tattoo."

He laughed, "oh, you noticed that."

I swallowed hard.

"It's a peace sign, it means something different for everyone. I got it because of my ehem." He cleared his throat, trying to cover himself up.

"Peace?" I asked.

"Yeah...I wanted to remind myself to keep calm and not to fight," he explained.

My eyes widened, "wow, that's amazing."

He nodded and smiled at me, "yeah, it's my favourite one."

"Why did you get it? Did someone give it to you?" I asked.

He nodded, "I can't tell you that," I saw his dimples appear on his cheeks, "but maybe someday, I won't be able to hide it anymore."

"What do you mean by that?" I asked, confused.

He smiled at me and shook his head, "nothing, I'm sorry."

The night was long and I was tired, even how much I wanted to stay and chat with him, I needed to go home and rest before my day job.

"Thank you for the handkerchief, I'm glad you found it." I smiled at him, giving him a tiny bow.

"Of course, you can drop by any time you want, I'll make sure to be here," he winked at me.

"Okay, thanks." I waved goodbye to him.

The car drove smoothly as we left the parking lot. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to get rid of all the thoughts in my mind.

'I need to sleep,' I thought to myself, 'I'm too wired.'

'I wonder if he'll ask for my number,' I wondered.

'No, he won't.' I told myself.

When the car stopped, I opened my eyes and got out of it. I looked straight ahead until I could see the entrance of my apartment building.

I walked towards my door, opened the keys inside my pocket and I turned them around until the lock clicked. The key was heavy in my pocket.

After opening the door, I placed my bag inside and locked the door.

"Hey!" A man's voice yelled after me, "Arabella, wait!"

I turned around and saw him running towards me, "what is it?" I asked him, annoyed.

"I-I just wanted to say, I'm really sorry about everything." He spoke quickly, his voice sounded strained.

"For what?" I asked, crossing my arms.

Seeing this pig not only made my forehead frown but also my mouth curl into a smile. I couldn't help it.

"I'm sorry about what happened yesterday. I was rude and I shouldn't have done that." He sighed.

"It's okay, I'm used to people like you." I rolled my eyes.

"Come on, Glory, I'm an asshole, I deserve it." He chuckled, "it's okay, seriously."

"Really?" I scoffed as I took another step away from him.

He stepped closer to me, "please, don't take it personally. I didn't mean to scare you."

"I'm fine," I said, putting my hands in front of my chest.

"Can we please talk for a bit?" He pleaded.

"Sure," I shrugged, "just let me get some fresh air." I pointed towards the balcony of the building.

The corridor was dark and cold, I felt the breeze blowing against my skin, making me shiver.

"Why don't you join me?" He walked past me and opened the door, walking outside.

His phone vibrated and he answered it.

'This is it!' I flinched as I saw my opportunity to get back inside my apartment. I glanced at him one more time to make sure he wasn't watching and turned around.

I made sure no one was in the hallway before I unlocked the door and walked inside, closing the door with a click.

I reached into my pocket to feel the warm piece of metal. My heart was beating fast and my breathing was unsteady.

'This is insane, what he was even doing here?' I thought as I locked the door behind me.

I walked past the living room and went straight to the kitchen, grabbing the first glass that was in sight. I filled it with water from the tap and drank it all in one gulp.

I knew I had to rest for a few minutes before I would start doing the dishes.

I walked back into my bedroom and turned on the light, sitting down on the bed.

I placed my elbows on my knees while I closed my eyes, 'he came to apologise? Is that normal?' I thought to myself, 'for real? It's not even that big of a deal.'

I took a deep breath before I stood up and walked to the balcony. I opened the sliding glass door and stepped outside.

It was silent and I could barely see anything through the darkness.

I stayed like that for a few minutes before I walked back inside, locking the door again.

I set my bag on the floor and sat down on the bed.

I put my phone on my lap and began scrolling through my social media platforms.

I was listening to the sound of my fingers tapping on the phone screen when I heard the front door open.

"Are you awake?" It was Nico coming from a long night out.

I heard him walking over to the bed and sitting down beside me, "yeah, I am."

"You sure?" His voice was low and quiet.

I nodded, "why?"

"Giiirl! You won't believe what a cutie I met tonight!" He sighed as he lied down on my sheets, "I think he's the love of my life!" He let a long sigh out.

His sentence made me giggle, 'silly!' I thought as I began to rub my hands through his short-dyed blue hair, "everyone is the love of your life," I giggled.

Nico stretched his legs, moving closer to me until he was lying on top of me.

"Did you meet anyone interesting?" He whispered against my ear.

"Yes," I replied, "but he isn't as cute as you."

He lifted his head up and looked at me, "what did he look like?"

"Like the love of my life..."
