Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Principal Carla takes Marina to her dormitory and tells her that she will have three roommates: Estela, Bianca, and Flavia.

She leaves the girl at ease to get to know the place and the girls. Marina is not used to this environment and remains quiet, but tries not to show that she is scared.

She organizes her things in the black dresser next to her bed. When she finishes, a girl with curly hair approaches the girl:

"Hello, my name is Bianca. What's your name?"

"My name is Marina."

"Pretty name"- says the girl and introduces her friends named Estela and Flavia.

"Hello"-Says Marina ashamed and a little scared.

The girls talk to Marina and gradually she loses her shyness and decides to talk too, and even loses a little fear of being rejected by people.

She discovers things in common with Flavia: that her parents also died, but it was worse with her, because she lost her parents when she was four years old and has lived in an orphanage ever since.

Bianca was abandoned by her mother and put in a basket in front of the orphanage and left only a written note to take good care of her and saying the baby's name in a pendant that came in the basket, her father she never met.

Estela suffered a lot as a child, because her father drank a lot and beat her and her mother. Her mother died from being beaten so much and she was brought to the orphanage, because she preferred to stay here than with some of her relatives.

Marina thought it was only fair to tell her about her life and from that day on they became great friends.

After talking, they went to the cafeteria for lunch. When they got there, Marina saw her sisters sitting with a group of teenagers of the same age as them. She decided to stay in place so as not to disturb them and went to the lunch line.

On the way, a girl passes by and pushes her, throwing her to the ground. Marina gets up and the girl says:

"Watch where you're going girl."

"But it was you who hit me."

"You better not mess with me, you'll make trouble-and pushes Marina again-get out of my way brat."

"What did you call me?"

The girl grabs Marina from the ground and pulls her by the collar of her shirt in irritation:

"I called you a brat, why? What are you going to do, huh?"

Marina remains silent and the girl lets go and leaves.

"What a strange girl"-Says Marina.

"That's Lucia. She thinks she's a bully just because she beat up the strongest boy in the orphanage. She's been like that ever since-Says Flavia"-Come on, let's go to lunch.

"You don't want to mess with her, because she's vindictive, says Estela."

"Once, just because a girl spilled Jell-O on her blouse, she beat her so badly that the girl was sick for days," says Bianca.

And Marina says:

"Hell, but I'm not afraid of her, but I'm not going to mess with this girl either."

They get their lunch and sit down on one of the chairs at the back of the cafeteria. Marina gets pensive about this girl, but lets that subject go when she receives a text message from her best friend that says, "How are you? I miss you." "I'm fine Dayane and you? I miss you too. I've barely arrived and I'm already in trouble. "I'm fine. What problems? "

Marina describes what happened and her friend asks her to leave the girl alone that everything will be fine.

She finishes lunch and goes to her dorm. But as she is walking she realizes that the corridor is very dark and decides to turn on the flashlight on her cell phone.

She is startled when she realizes that there is a black, hairy spider on the floor. She screams and runs, but suddenly she trips over her own feet and falls face down on the floor.

At that moment Lucia appears and says:

"If you mess with me, it will be worse."

Marina gets up from the floor and says:

"But I didn't do anything."

"It doesn't matter. You must be one of those spoiled girls, but learn that it's not like that here, so you can get out of the way, girl."

And Marina says:

"You're crazy and I'm not afraid of you."

The girl looks at her with contempt and walks away. Marina gets scared and goes into her room and starts to cry and thinks: "How I wish I could go back to my house, go back to my life as before with my brothers and my parents near me.

Her friends show up and hug her telling her not to be like that, that everything will work out.

Marina thanks them and goes to take a long shower, puts on her pajamas and decides to go to bed early to see if she can forget a little of her sadness, but nothing seems to calm her down, so she decides to put a song on her cell phone, called "Un día más do Cantor Daniel Calveti" and she starts singing the song and feeling lighter.

She remembers when her mother used to tell her stories as a little girl, and after five minutes she falls asleep.

A few months have passed and Lucia continues to disturb Marina, pushing her, kicking her, and out of fear, she remains silent, until after a month of living there, she decides to confront this girl and fills her bed with cockroaches and leaves a note written "Let's see who's the bully now. Meet me in the courtyard. If you don't show up it's because you're scared."

Marina leaves the girl's four and goes quietly to the courtyard to wait for Lucia. After ten minutes the furious girl shows up and the two begin to fight non-stop, punching and kicking.

But what Marina didn't know was that Lucia had a pocket knife hidden in her pocket and ended up hitting Marina's arm, creating a deep cut.

The girl starts to laugh and says:

"Who's the loser now huh?"

And leaves the yard smiling while Marina is crying with so much pain. She faints at the sight of so much blood and when she wakes up she realizes that she is in the local infirmary.

Her arm is bandaged with a plaster and a bandage, and on the table there is a note written "If you tell anyone that I hurt you, you will know what will happen to you. "

Marina shivers as she reads the note, but decides to speak up, because this girl has crossed the line. She gets up from the gurney in the infirmary, goes to the Director's office, and knocks on the door. In a few seconds she hears someone say "come in".

Upon entering, she tells the director what happened and the woman says:

"I'll take care of it."

She leaves the principal's office hoping that something will be done to solve this problem. While the principal is on her way to take action, she allows Marina to go into the other room to check on her sisters.

Marina goes to the second floor and reaches the room where her sisters are. Later, they go to dinner and after that, each one goes to her dormitory.

***

Three months have passed and Lucia has not bothered Marina anymore and she feels relieved that the girl is not tormenting her.

***

On a sunny day, Marina and her friends decide to go play in the courtyard of the orphanage, when suddenly Lucia appears and approaches Marina. As a gesture, she calls her to play with her friends and she accepts, but little does she know that Lucia is setting up the girl for telling the Director about the fight.

Lucia calls the girl and her friends to play hide-and-seek in the hallways and they think that maybe the girl has changed her ways and they agree to play.

The game is going well until Lucia calls Marina to see what's on the wall in the living room and she says:

"But it's very dark here Lucia."

"Please, it won't take long. It's because my bracelet fell in there and I'm afraid of the dark."

"Okay, I'll go."

Marina enters the dark room and says:

"But there's nothing here."

At that moment, Lucia closes the door of the room and says:

"Now there's something there: YOU."

Marina starts to cry and says:

"Why are you doing this to me?"

"Because you contacted the Director about what I did to you, and she starts to laugh, "Now you're going to stay there until you learn your lesson, that I'm not to be messed with."

Lucia leaves the girl alone on the spot and leaves the hallway counting. Suddenly, Marina's friends appear and one of them asks:

"Where is Marina?" asks Flavia."

"She said she was tired and went to bed."

The girls are a little suspicious, but prefer to believe them and Estela says:

"I'll go check on her."

"I'd better let her sleep for a while and in the meantime, let's go for a walk in the yard," says Lucia."

"Better leave it for next time. Bye! says Bianca trying to get away from this girl."

"Okay then. Bye, says Lucia."

Lucia leaves the hallway and leaves the girls alone. Marina's friends decide to go to her room to check on their friend and find it empty. They decide to take turns to look for the girl.

Meanwhile, Marina is in the dark room crying, screaming, "Help, please help me." She decides to check her cell phone, but there is no signal. She is sad and begins to cry again.

Suddenly, she starts to hear a familiar voice calling "Marina, where are you?" She realizes it is Flavia's voice and says:

"Flavia, help me! Flavia!"

Flavia hears her friend's voice and says:

"Marina tells me where you are!"

"Flavia I'm here-and she starts banging on the door saying: -Help me, I'm running out of air."

After this, Marina feels her body getting soft and faints. Flavia is worried and goes to the end of the corridor and finds a wooden door with an iron lock attached, preventing the door from being opened.

She manages to unlock the door after twenty minutes and when she does, she finds Marina lying on the floor.

She realizes that the room is dark and with the flashlight on her cell phone, she manages to find the switch and turns on the light.

Flavia sends a message to her friends saying that she has found her and asks them to call the Director.

After five minutes the message is sent, because there is not much signal in this place.

After fifteen minutes, the Director and Marina's friends show up. The woman takes the girl on her lap and takes her to the infirmary.

Once there, the nurse puts Marina on oxygen and she wakes up after twenty minutes and tells what happened and the woman says:

"I was going to call you when the girls told me about what happened."

"Call me for what?" asks Marina confused."

"A family came here earlier today and saw you in the yard. They loved you and want to adopt you."

Marina doesn't know whether to be happy or sad about the news and says:

"They want to adopt me and my sisters, right?"

Carla looks at her and says sadly:

"Unfortunately not dear. They only want to adopt you."

The girl gets very sad and says:

"I'm not going without my sisters."

"I'm sorry, but you have no choice."

She approaches the girl and says:

"When you leave here, pack your bags and wait for me in my living room."

"Okay, principal, she replies in a sad voice."
