.....

The first rays of sunlight were just beginning to penetrate the canopy of the trees that surrounded Pallet Town. Ash had just started to stir from his sleep when the dawn's rays spilled through his window and illuminated his bedroom. It was another mild spring morning in the small settlement, and the sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon. He got up in bed and stretched before opening his eyes and casting his gaze about the immaculate space he had kept for himself. As he got out of bed and turned around to straighten the sheets and comforter, he greeted himself and wished himself a happy birthday. "Good morning," he said to himself. "and happy birthday to me." He flashed a grin as he made his way across the off-white carpet and into the bathroom, where he freshened up by taking a speedy shower, brushing his teeth, and getting dressed in his usual attire, which consisted of jeans, a black T-shirt, and of course, the ball cap that his mother had given him for his fifteenth birthday the previous year.

He put on his leather boots with a heel height of six inches, grabbed his backpack and keys, and started heading downstairs. On the landing at the bottom of the stairs, he stopped for a moment to rub his calf and wait for the dull aching to go away. Even though it had been almost precisely ten years since he had received the scar from the Rattata in the wilds outside of Pallet Town, it continued to cause him some discomfort on occasion. Yet, as he had rapidly learned to do, he shrugged it off and continued on as though there was nothing in the world that could possibly be wrong.

As Ash entered the kitchen, he saw his mother standing in front of the refrigerator and searching through its contents. "Good morning, mom," Ash greeted his mother as he saw her for the first time in the day.

The woman turned back, flashed a friendly grin, and then closed the metal door behind her while brushing her hands down her apron. She greeted the birthday boy with joy by saying, "Good morning, birthday boy." "And how are you doing this wonderful morning?" "Good morning!"

A grin appeared on Ash's face as he entered the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around his mother and gave her a brief peck on the cheek before giving her a hug. He stated, "I'm going to Grandpa's laboratory right now." "The elderly man promised that he would have a really pleasant surprise in store for me if I showed up right away in the morning," the man stated. After turning around, he reached behind the bar, grabbed a slice of toast off a dish next to a glass of juice, and took a bite of it.

When her son Ash finished the toast and drank down the juice, Ash's mother exclaimed, "I really wish you'd let me make you a genuine breakfast." "I truly wish you'd let me make you a proper meal." "Just because you and Grandpa make do with hardtack and water when you're out in the field doesn't mean you have to live like a marine when you're at home," he said. "It's perfectly acceptable to have a normal life at home."

Ash beamed and smiled as he explained, "I've become accustomed to the way of life."

"I suppose I should have seen it coming," the woman acted out, feigning exasperation as she walked to the sink and started rinsing off the plates he'd left there the night before. "I suppose I should have seen it coming," she said. "You're way too similar to my mom's side of the family," my dad's side of the family said.

After giving his mother one more quick hug, Ash said, "And I wouldn't have it any other way," and then he turned and headed for the living room. "And I wouldn't have it any other way." "In this kind of world, the most beneficial thing a fitness trainer can have is the mindset and way of life of a Spartan. We can't afford to be as delicate and sophisticated out here on the frontier," he acted as though he were an aristocrat by lifting his chin and putting his nose in the air while squinting his eyes."

His mother laughed and said, "I know, I know." "It's important to keep in mind that you're not a trainer just yet, and that you don't have your own Pokémon," the trainer said.

When Ash made his way across the living room, bade farewell, and opened the front door, he exclaimed with a positive attitude, "I'm betting that will change today." "I'll see you later!"

As Ash stepped outside and shut the door behind him, his mother waved back and wished her son the best of luck before closing the door behind him. Before turning around to look out over the town of Pallet Town, Ash took out his keys and locked the door, securing both of the deadbolts as well as the lock on the doorknob itself. He then took in the view.

Some of the settlement, such as Ash's house, extended up the slopes of the hills on the eastern and western sides of the village, where the hills were located. The majority of the settlement was sandwiched between the two hills on the eastern and western sides of the village. To the south was a little beach, and to the north was the wilderness trail of Route 1, which was only divided from Pallet Town by a primitive wooden barrier at the base of a shorter but still sloping hill. The one road that led away from the settlement and into the wilderness wove its way through long golden grass and eventually vanished into the dense woodland that was located farther to the north.

After making a turn to the south, Ash easily located the laboratory that his grandfather had built. It was impossible to miss the laboratory because it was the largest building in the town and it was the building that was located closest to the coast. Ash, who had walked the road leading down his side of the hill and passed the few other houses hundreds of times, arrived at the laboratory only a few minutes later. On his trip, he hadn't come across anyone, but given how quiet the village was, that wasn't surprising at all. At this hour of the day, the only individuals who would be genuinely awake and moving around would be Ash, Professor Oak, and whoever Oak had stationed to keep watch at the town gate.

Even as Ash lifted his hand to knock on the steel door that was set in the side of the North wall of the stone building, the door slid open on its own, and a short woman who was carrying a leather pack came shuffling out of the building. She came dangerously close to colliding with Ash, but the young man deftly sidestepped her and even reached out his arm to catch the woman in the lab coat as she stumbled and fell while attempting to stop as quickly as possible.

Oh, Ash, the confused helper exclaimed in surprise. "Please accept my apologies for it. Your grandfather is probably inside working at this moment."

Once the Aid got back on her feet, Ash thanked her by saying, "Thank you, Aisha." "Is he extremely occupied?"

Aisha's voice was upbeat as she asked in an optimistic manner, "Not too busy to chat with you I'd assume." "But if you'll excuse me, I'm a bit rushed, and I really need to get going," the speaker said.

After abruptly recalling the day and bidding Ash a speedy happy birthday, Aisha promptly hurried off into town after receiving a nod of agreement from Ash. The young man entered the laboratory and closed the entrance door, at which point he heard the latch on the door click into place automatically. The interior of the building had the same clinical appearance as it had in the past. The floors were made of a polished white material that Ash had always believed to be marble, and they glinted just a little in the light that came in through the numerous skylights that were located above. Huge equipment that were too complicated to describe in a single pass beeped and flickered as small lights went off here and there, naturally forming discrete portions of the warehouse that served as one of the most advanced research institutes in the country. Because it appeared as though no one was in the building, Professor Oak must have dispatched the other assistants into the city to complete a variety of errands.

"Grandpa!" Ash yelled, and his voice reverberated throughout the structure. "It's me! Where are you right now?"
