Aurora’s POV
The sound of Nirvana’s ‘Sounds Like Teen Spirit’ blared through my headphones as we all stood outside our new pack house. In my opinion, the entire thing was stupid. It was just yet another way that this new Alpha of ours would assert his dominance. It wasn’t enough that he and his pack slaughtered hundreds of our men and forced us to move into his pack, now he wanted to twist the knife and remind us that he owned us.
I crossed my arms over my chest trying to hide the ridiculous dress that my mother forced me in. She had hopes of getting on this new Alpha’s good side and converting him into her latest husband. I was here just to show how much of an obedient stepdaughter I would make. My mother had convinced herself that this new Alpha couldn’t be horrible because there were plenty of wolves from our previous pack here. She claimed this new Alpha saved us from a harsher fate.
“Headphones out.”
My mother’s voice was stern, pulling the headphones out of my ears. My mother was a beautiful woman, but time had aged her. At only thirty-four, her auburn hair had been plagued with grey streaks and the bags under her eyes made her seem older than she was. The treasures of being a single mother.
I rolled my eyes as mother pushed her breasts together, forcing them to nearly spill out of her tight dress. In actuality the dress wasn’t tight, it was almost four years old and two sizes too small by this time. After my poor excuse of a father abandoning my mother seventeen years ago, my mother couldn’t afford all the luxuries she wanted.
A wave of silence filtered through the crowd, and I paused the music that still blasted through the headphones. A tall figure emerged from the front doors of the pack house; he was the same man from my house, the gray-eyed beauty.
He looked younger than I had remembered. He was older than me but younger than my mother. His chiseled features made him even more attractive. I could smell the desperation seeping from every woman in the crowd, my mother included. He sported denim jeans and a fitted black shirt, the muscles on his arms bulged through the shirt nearly ripping it. I waited in silence for an older man to walk out after him, perhaps his father, but no one ever did.
“To my original pack members, I am proud of you, we returned home safe and with some healthy new additions. I trust that you’ll make them feel at home. To my new guests, welcome. I am Alpha Liam and this is your new home.”
Alpha! There was no way that the man whose grey eyes pierced into my soul was going to be my new Alpha. I had assumed that he was just another warrior following orders, but he was the one who made the orders. He was the one who decided who would live and who would die.
“For my new members, there are going to be some changes that you may not be used to. For example, everyone is to participate in training every day. A pack is as strong as its weakest link and my pack shall have no weak link. If you are pregnant, which I see some of you are, you are still expected to train until the pack doctor formally excuses you from such activities. All ages will participate even small children, they shall have their own classes.”
“As for the older woman, if my eighty-four-year-old grandmother can still train with me then so can you. Practice starts promptly at eight, not a second after. Also, my new guests, we have new homes for each of you based on your family size and rank. Please find any of my men located throughout the pack and ask them where you were assigned. I hope your transition into my pack goes smoothly.”
His voice took me out of my thoughts. Much like his presence, his voice demanded attention. It was gruff and sexy, forcing even hardheaded me to pay attention to every word that he said. It was said that all Alphas had an aura of dominance that forced others to follow. My previous Alpha only had a beer gut and a pervy personality. Based on the man in front of me, I could tell why he had won. There was no way Alpha Robin stood a chance against this new Alpha. He was younger, fitter, and had strength in his numbers. His pack was huge.
Just as quickly as he came, he walked back inside the house, the various women throughout the crowd finally tearing their gazes away to get themselves situated. I looked over at my mother who stared at the empty entrance of the house, the longing heavy in her eyes.
“Wait here with our things. I’ll find out where new our house is,” I instructed.
It didn’t make a difference if I said anything or not. She was consumed with her thoughts of being a wife again and having the life she always dreamed of having. More times than none, I felt bad for her. She had been born the runt of the litter, the Omega of the pack, but that never stopped her from working to be better. As she improved my father had taken notice of her and valued her relentless efforts. Long story short, they fell in love, he found his mate, and my mother was a thing of the past. Not to mention she was sixteen and pregnant with me.
Pushing past the various bodies of old and new pack members, I finally found one of Alpha Liam’s men leaning against the mall with a cigarette and clipboard in his hand. His sandy hair was familiar; it reminded me of the shirtless man that had initially broken down my door during the invasion. I walked over to him and slapped the cigarette from his hands. Werewolves weren’t invincible and it killed me when they pretended that they were.
“What the hell,” he snapped. His gaze was cold and the once-blue eyes that were mesmerized by the cigarette had nearly turned black. He was definitely the man from my house. There was no way that I’d be able to forget his face. I thought he was coming to
“Cigarettes kill,” I simply say with a shrug of my shoulders. He could be mad now, but he’d thank me later when he doesn’t have lung cancer. Call us even, he spared my life along with my mothers and I saved him from a pitiful future of cancer.
“The Alpha said something about asking for directions to our new house.”
The man grumbled something under his breath, the only word that rang clear was Omega. I tried hard to hold my tongue, something that I wasn’t normally used to. I didn’t want to be here, this wasn’t my home, but I didn’t have a choice. After they defeated my previous Alpha, my pack no longer existed. We now belonged here or would be cast away as a Rogue.
A hard hand slapped against his shoulder. The man went rigid whether from shock or fear, I wasn’t sure. My eyes traveled to the man who had interrupted us. It was the same man whose presence demanded attention; the same man whose gray eyes made my knees go weak every time he looked at me.
“Aurora, right?” he said. His hand remained on the guy’s shoulder as those grey eyes stayed on me. The previous words I wanted to say were stuck in my throat as I nodded in response to him.
“Dawn! Oh my god, you’re alive!” a familiar voice screamed. A flash of blonde hair came sprinting toward me as my best friend came into view. She wrapped her arms around me and locked her legs around my waist, nearly knocking me over.
“Faith, thank the Moon Goddess that you’re here with me,” I breathed.
After we packed up some of our belongings we were immediately escorted to a car and had been on the road to get here. Today was the first day that we had seen anyone from our old pack. Faith and her family were the only ones who accepted me and my mother with open arms. Never once did they judge me and my mother for our rank. They took their time to get to know us.
Someone cleared their throat behind us and Faith detached herself from me. I had forgotten that the Alpha and the other guy were standing there. The Alpha looked at us with amusement heavy within those gray eyes of his.
“My apologies, Alpha. I haven’t seen my friend since before…” Faith apologized and let her sentence trail off.
This new Alpha wasn’t like Alpha Robin. We knew what angered Alpha Robin and what he didn’t mind discussing. This new Alpha was an enigma, a bunch of puzzle pieces without a reference picture to know what exactly you’re supposed to be making.
“Of course. I’m sure there’s a lot of reuniting that must be done today. My Beta, Alexander, will gladly help assist the both of you with whatever you need.”
The sandy-haired man, Alexander, made a face but made no move to correct the Alpha. I almost laughed at the amount of disdain on Alexander’s face. I doubt he wanted to be any use to the girl who just slapped his cigarette from his hands.
“Thank you, Alpha, my family found our house and I want to say you’re most generous.”
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Faith was good at smooth talking anyone, but she still had a tongue that was sharper than any blade and that’s why she was my best friend.
“I just need the address for me and my mom. I know we’re Omegas so we’re not expecting much,” I said holding my hand out for a map of the pack. In my search for someone to help, I noticed many members with maps most likely showing them how to locate their new homes and the many amenities this new pack would offer us.
The Beta looked at Alpha before going through his clipboard and scribbled something onto the paper before switching to the foldable map. He looked over the map and circled something before hanging it in front of me.
“Enjoy,” the Beta said, his voice thick with venom.
I rolled my eyes and Faith hooked her arm with mine before excusing the both of us. As we walked away, I released a breath that I hadn’t known I was holding.
“The Moon Goddess blessed us. Not only did she bring us together, again, but she also gave us the sexiest Alpha.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. I could be a liar if I disagreed, but Alpha Liam was certainly the sexiest Alpha I had ever seen. Faith and I separated as I found my mother standing in the same spot that I left her. She was no longer staring where the Alpha previously stood, she was fiddling with our minimal bags.
“Mom, you ready?” I asked grabbing some of our bags from the ground.
She nodded as she helped with our bags and walked to our new home. Luckily the house was closer to the pack house than I thought. The house was massive for an Omega house. It stood two stories high with a generic white picket fence and a small porch that was littered with various plants.
“This has to be a mistake. Omegas can’t live here,” my mom began to argue.
I rolled my eyes and opened the door. The map had said this was our new home and I had no desire to argue with the Alpha over whether he gave us too nice of a house or not. The living room was a beige color which was a nice change from the pale green we used to have.
Ignoring my mother’s whispering protest, I went to the stairs in search of the bedrooms. There were two large and fully furnished bedrooms upstairs. Deciding on taking the smaller one, I placed my bags on the floor beside the queen-sized bed.
This was our new home and there was nothing that we could do about it. The only good thing about this new pack besides the eye candy of an Alpha was the beautiful home we had been given. Maybe my mother wasn’t completely wrong, and the Alpha wasn’t as bad as I thought he would be.
Only time would tell, and the training tomorrow was something that I was not looking forward to.
