"For the Salvation of the world"
Gaia's answer made me scared, and I started to think what did she mean the salvation of the world, what do we need saving from, why me.
"What is gonna happen to the world"
"The new era"
"What is this new era"
"The New era is a tear in the space between a world and another, when the tear widens enough the world and the other will merge creating new resources, new opportunities, and change on the cellular level."
"That doesn't sound so bad" I said when she shook her head sideways.
"The world merging with this one happens to be one that humanity died out, only inhuman species exist such as orcs, basilisks, and even demons. These beings want everything this world has including the extinction of humanity.
"That does sound pretty fucking bad" I said realizing the gravity of the situation.
"Yea it is pretty fucking bad" she said with solemn look.
"So why me then, why was I chosen"
"Out of all the humans I have seen you are the most normal in terms of strength, intelligence, and charisma.
"Thanks I guess" I said kind of confused, I followed up with "So what Do I have then that others don't"
"Three things set you apart from others, you have a connection with me a very strong one, you can see me and touch me while others may only hear me in the wind. Secondly you can adapt and grow quickly, I've seen your true ability to learn talents when you see someone else display them."
I interrupted her "I have only been able to copy a general amount of there talent, it's not as amazing as you think" It was like walking in someone else's footsteps but you could only see there previous steps, you could never copy there current ability as they have yet to leave a path behind. It was like being one step behind everyone else. Trying to grow where the last step was almost impossible, it was like trying to move through thick mud always meeting resistance.
"What you have Gael is the ability to learn from others, no one else can see the path others have taken before them"
I Didn't want to argue with her so I stayed silent.
"Lastly you have the will necessary to carry out what must be done"
"What must I do" I knew from books and novels, there was always a catch for these situations.
"You must be forgotten by the world to become its guardian"
"What do you mean forgotten" I said with worry
"You must be erased from everyone's memory"
"How will this make me the Guardian"
"By erasing your memory I will be able to use my unique ability to create a sacrifice great enough to be turned into power, which I will imbue into you, allowing you to accomplish feats thought to be impossible"
I took in everything as I heard it and sat down to think.
"I will give you a moment to think" Gaia just stood still and awaited my answer
All I knew was that if I didn't say yes the ones I loved and cared for, my friends, my family, would all be killed by the invaders. I knew what had to be done, I only wished I could say my final goodbyes with my loved ones.
"Gaia could I spend the rest of today with my family and friends before I agree"
I was scared she would say no, she took a second to answer, she spoke and said
"Of course if you agree then at midnight there memories of you will be erased and you will then be brought here to prepare for what is to come"
I left shortly after to spend the rest of the day with my loved ones. I had as much fun as I could, I talked with friends and family for hours until it was time to say goodbye. I drank a lot that night, I said my final goodbyes to my family, they were unaware that they would forget me. I felt great sadness. I knew what had to be done, so before I had doubts I agreed to Gaia's request, sealing my fate.
I felt a large gust of wind blow past me and with it's passing I had disappeared from everyone's memories and the place I stood on.
