Chapter 4: Foothold

Three days later, 16 figures appeared on the plain between Fengyunding

Mountains and Nangang.

Looking at the slow-moving team, Karl was enjoying the surrounding scenery

with a happy mood.

Although some places in Middle-earth have a very harsh environment, such as

the Doomsday Volcano in Mordor and the Mirkwood in Varonian, there are also

places with clear and beautiful spirits. Bilbo's hometown Shire, where

Galadriel, the queen of elves, is located That was the case with Rivendell.

Although the scenery of the plains mixed with mountains here is not as good

as that of the fairy dwelling, the environment is much better than the planet

Karl lived in in his previous life.

However, this time he agreed to follow Thorin and the dwarves to "drive

away" the dragon, not for enjoying the scenery along the way, and of course,

not for the so-called treasure.

Gold coins are certainly useful to him, but Karl's main purpose is the prey

he may encounter on the road.

They are going to the Lonely Mountain this time, and the journey is far

away. It is obviously impossible to get there safely, because those ferocious

dark and cruel creatures of all colors will not obediently get out of the way

just because you are Thorin.

Although Karl's current skills are very powerful, it is still dangerous to

break into some places by himself. Therefore, since he has an oak shield to

help him pick and roll, he naturally has to seize this opportunity and make

good use of it.

Just as he was thinking, there was a loud conversation in front of him.

"No, I don't agree." Thorin shook his head and said to Gandalf with

displeasure.

Gandalf actually said he was going to Rivendell? It was the place where

those nasty elves lived. He had always disliked those elves who claimed to be

superior, so how could he be willing to go to the place where they lived?

"Sorin, the map of the Lonely Mountain needs to be interpreted, and only

elves can solve the riddles on it. If we don't go, we will be considered to

have reached the Lonely Mountain, and we will not be able to enter the

underground city." Lin, Gandalf is earnest.

Hearing this, Sorin still frowned.

Let him beg those elves? How can this work?

Thinking about it, his eyes rolled slightly, but he saw Karl who was

leisurely beside him, and his heart couldn't help but get angry, but then,

another thought flashed, and then he said to Gandalf:

"Gandalf, don't you say our ranger guide is a wise man? Why don't you show

him the map?"

"Huh?" Gandalf was taken aback for a moment, and then suddenly realized

that he forgot about this, and after thinking about it, he looked at Carl in a

blink of an eye.

With Karl's intellect, it is indeed possible to solve the riddle.

"I only promised you to help you drive away the dragon, but I didn't

promise you to help you solve any riddles." Facing Gandalf's hopeful eyes, Carl

shook his head directly, "Of course, it's okay if you really want my help.

Unless you."

As he spoke, Karl rubbed his fingers, the meaning being self-evident.

Everyone has already seen Karl's greed. Seeing this, how dare they ask him?

This guy was about to tear off a large piece of meat as soon as he opened his

mouth. Now that half of the wealth has been swallowed up, how could they let

this guy continue to blackmail?

Thorin was also a little depressed, on the one hand because of the fact

that he was defeated three days ago, on the other hand, naturally because he

couldn't do anything to Karl.

Karl always used various reasons to run on him, he seemed to be

indifferent, and his temper was a bit at odds with him, which made him feel

depressed.

"Anyway, I won't go to Rivendell, Gandalf, I hope you can think of other

ways." Thorin said, "I don't believe that our son of the dwarves can still be

rejected by his own family."

Gandalf was a little helpless when he heard the words. Thorin was so

stubborn, what else could he say?

Karl saw Gandalf's eyes flicker, but he secretly smiled.

Isn't this old man in a good mood? Would he really not go to Rivendell as

Thorin said? Now maybe he's playing some crazy idea again.

Alas, only the poor dwarves and the hobbits believed that the kind-faced

old man was a selfless and good man. Carl felt some sympathy.

Of course, Gandalf, as one of the five wizards in Middle-earth, compared to

the idle bird-raising expert Dejast, the ambitious Saruman, and the two blue-

robed wizards who disappeared from beginning to end, It is indeed the most

philanthropic, benevolent and just existence.

But justice sometimes doesn't mean good things, at least... for some

people.

After this little episode, everyone went on the road again. After driving

for a day, there was a big blue river in front of them. The river was a bit

wide and the water was a bit turbulent. It was a bit troublesome to cross it

directly.

This is the Cangquan River, which is a branch of the Les Esser River. Only

by going up can you find the mouth of the river.

Helpless, everyone drove their horses to catch up, and it took another half

a day to finally cross the river.

Because of wasting some time, the sky has begun to darken.

"It seems that we can only camp here temporarily tonight." Thorin said.

They originally wanted to feel a village before dark, but it seemed

impossible now.

Carl's performance was listless, and he didn't encounter any unpleasant

things along the way, which made him unable to arouse his interest.

"Hey, Thorin, there is a forest over there, let's go in and camp." Bilbo

saw a green shade in the distance, but his eyes lit up.

Compared with spending the night on the bare sand, it is clear that staying

in a sheltered forest can make people feel more at ease.

Hearing Bilbo's words, Karl's eyes, which he didn't care about at first,

lit up slightly. Yes, he seemed a little stupid. Since no prey came, why didn't

he take everyone to look for it himself, no, why not just happen to was found?

"That's a good idea, Bilbo." Thorin nodded.

He didn't think there was anything wrong with this suggestion.

The distance gradually approached, and the thick tree branches and thick

leaves gradually replaced the surrounding environment of everyone.

Walking through the forest, Carl's nose suddenly moved slightly, and then

his eyes lit up: "What is this stench?"

As a ranger, after so many years of traveling, he has long been aware of

the possible threats in the surrounding environment, so now hearing these

auras, he feels a little excited.

That's a troll. It's been a long time since I thought about it, but this

time I didn't expect such good luck.

After walking for a while, the sun had already set, leaving only a smear of

yellow on the originally blue sky, with a few gray and black solitary clouds

shining, but the forest had already begun to become dark.

After choosing a clean and bright place, everyone began to cook and rest.
