Chapter 17: snake mandala
As I entered the forest, I released my spiritual awareness so that I could see my surroundings and detect if anything or anyone was approaching us.
Within the range of perception, I could see all kinds of creatures, such as rabbits, plants, small snakes. They all had an age range of less than 100 years, so I ignored them and we moved on to see if I could find the snake that Tang Sang had found as his first ring.
I also asked the system to buy me a soul beast guide, so I could recognize them when I see them.
Half a day after we went in to look for spirit beasts, we didn't see any animals that convinced us. Both Oscar and little Yin were a bit tired and seeing that it was getting dark, we decided to start looking for a place to spend the night.
After an hour of searching, we finally found a suitable place to rest. The place was a hill near a river, when we decided to stay in this place, we made our tents and began to place dust around so that the animals and insects would not approach.
When we finished arranging everything, we made a fire and started to cook some rabbits that we had hunted beforehand.
While we were eating, I began to educate both Yin Lan and Oscar.
"Little Yin, the beast we are hunting for you is a Mandala snake and the age it should be is less than 423 years old, but by taking the marrow cutting and washing pill, your physical condition improved, so we should find one with an older age. The same goes for you Oscar, we should look for a beast with more age than normal, but we should concentrate on some attribute you want to start with, personally I think it should be of the fire attribute, since, being from the food system, fire is something indispensable."
They both nodded after listening to me, they had no objection since they didn't know much about soul beasts and believed that it wouldn't hurt them my choice.
The next day we set out again in search of spirit beasts that would serve us. As we were passing near a hillside, we heard a noise of a fight a few meters away, we looked at each other and decided to go take a look.
When we arrived, we saw that they were three animals fighting, one was a Mandala snake that was almost 850 years old and the other was a little over 400 years old, they were facing a fire raccoon that was around 1100 years old, from what we could see the two Mandala snakes were trying to kill the raccoon to be owners of this territory.
Seeing them fight we were happy, as this almost 850 year old mandala snake was of great use to Yin Lan and the 400 year old little mandala snake should be the one Tang San case, if I kill it beforehand, I should be able to affect the plot a little and get some system points, so I spoke to the other two people.
"Little Yin this mandala snake will be your first soul ring, we will wait for these three animals to get hurt as much as possible and go in to get the fisherman's benefits."
The two people were nervous, since first time they see such big animals fighting, but still they nodded while trying to calm down. Nearly 30 minutes into the fight, both sides were already badly hurt, so we decided to act.
I summoned two shadow clones and quickly gave instructions.
"Little Yin you just concentrate on killing the 850 year old mandala snake, my clone is enough to help you immobilize it, while the other clone will help Oscar kill the 400 year old snake and I will quickly kill the raccoon, let's not wait any longer and go, remember don't forget to use your spiritual awareness to see the surroundings."
After I finished speaking I quickly advanced using shunpo, while Yin lan and Oscar followed behind me.
I didn't want to waste time, so I directly attacked the fire raccoon that was severely wounded while preparing to escape. As I approach, the raccoon senses my presence and tries to get into a defensive position, but due to its wound it doesn't have the same speed and agility as usual.
I throw a few shurikens at the raccoon, which dodges most of them. However, one of the shurikens hits his leg which was already injured from the battle he had with the snakes, causing him to lose his balance a bit. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I throw some kunais at the tanuki, which forces him to defend himself by throwing a fireball at me.
After dodging his attack, I kept approaching the fire raccoon, trying to stay out of range of his fire attacks. Seeing that his fireballs don't give results and I'm getting closer to him, the raccoon tries to bite me several times, but being wounded, it was very easy to dodge and seeing that I was already close enough, I decided to end the fight, so I unsheathed my katana and attacked him with a vertical cut trying to pierce his neck.
Seeing my attack, the raccoon did its best to dodge, but to no avail, because my sword was faster than its reaction and finally I ended up cutting its head off.
After I finished killing this soul beast, I turned my attention to Yin lan and Oscar who were still fighting with the other two mandala snakes. I decided not to act, as I want them to have some fighting experience, so I started to use my spiritual awareness to look around and noticed that there is a group of 7 people hiding.
Almost all of these people were level 20 and some were level 30, only one of them was still level 19, I didn't know the exact level of the others, so I decided to take care of them because it would be dangerous for little Yin if they attacked her while absorbing the soul ring.
Before attacking, I sent a message by spiritual awareness to my clones and Oscar.
"There are people who are ambushing us, I will go take care of them, while I do so, defend little Yin when she absorbs the spirit ring and do not tell her about this matter, as she will worry and there may be accidents."
As he finished speaking, I could notice Oscar's small change, but he quickly calmed down and went back to concentrate on his battle against the mandala snake, because he knows very well that this is an excellent opportunity for him to practice some knife skills he got from the inheritance I had given him on the way to this place.
After seeing that there was no problem, I decided to start on my own business.
