Chapter 41: Chapter 41 - Alice Has Unpredictable Taste
Enid smiled back and went upstairs to the second floor, heading for the shower.
After a few minutes, Enid comes down from upstairs, ready to leave.
"Wow, how pretty you look!" Ethan said, complimenting Enid.
"You think so?" Enid said, with a cute smile.
"You don't look like you're just going for a walk with your friends. Ethan said, with debauchery.
"Go take a shit, Ethan!". Enid said, grabbing her purse and leaving the house. "Don't go to sleep late, because you have class tomorrow!". Enid added, walking out the door.
"OK!" Ethan shouted, for her to hear, from outside the house.
Ethan watched Enid through the window and saw that Charlie was in the car outside, waiting for Enid.
Ethan gave a small corner smile, happy for his mother.
As soon as Enid was out of Ethan's sight, he ran out to the bathroom to get ready. He took a considerably long shower, put on an outfit that was comfortable but still stylish, did his hair, put on some perfume, and ran into the living room, trying to keep it as organized as possible.
As soon as he finished, Ethan picked up his cell phone and sent a message to Alice:
"Hi Alice! My mom's already gone. You can come over anytime you want...".
"Okay! I'll finish getting ready and come over!". Alice sent it back.
About five minutes later, Ethan hears someone knocking on the door.
He walks to the door and opens it, curious about who it is.
Then he sees Alice standing there with a shy smile. She looked beautiful. Alice was wearing a black wool blouse with a gray pleated skirt, and around her neck was a black choker that matched her blouse. Ethan wondered for a moment if she wasn't feeling cold because of the skirt, but realized that this was a stupid question.
"Hi, Alice! I thought it was going to be a while!". Ethan said, stepping out of the way of the door so that Alice could enter.
"Oh, you know how it is...". She replied, a little embarrassed. "What do you have planned for us today?". Alice said, slowly walking in.
"I thought we'd watch a movie and maybe order a pizza later...". Ethan said, running his hand through his hair.
As he said this, Alice looked at Ethan, with a confused expression.
"Oh, you don't eat pizza... That's right!". Ethan said, ungraciously. "In fact, what do you feel? Like, when you eat something?". He continued.
"I get nauseous. Like, I remember when I used to eat normal food, it tasted wonderful, but nowadays, I feel disgusted. You know what I mean? It doesn't taste good...". Alice said, walking towards the living room. "Where's your room? I want to see it!". She added, excitedly.
"Uh, are you sure? It's not very tidy!" Ethan said, but he knew his room was tidy.
"Yup!" Alice said, shaking her head approvingly.
Ethan moved his hand, pointing to the stairs.
Then Alice hurried up and ran up, excitedly. Opening the door, Alice found herself in an ordinary teenager's room, but more organized than usual.
She entered and began to admire the decorations.
"Wow, I couldn't imagine your room looking like this...!". Alice said.
"And you imagined it how?". Ethan asked, curious.
"I figured you didn't like those things...". Alice replied, looking at the anime Action Figures on the shelves.
"Oh yeah, I think it's fun to collect them!". Ethan replied, having no idea what those Action Figures were. He knew what Action Figures were, but he had no idea which anime they belonged to.
"Do you have mangoes here too?". Alice asked, excitedly.
"I think I have some stored. I can't remember if I brought them here!". Ethan said, disguising himself. "Do you like to read?" He added, bending down to look inside the moving boxes in the corner of the room.
"Yes, I like it a lot! I remember the first time I read a manga, it was so confusing!". She said, laughing.
"You started on the wrong side, right?" Ethan asked, rummaging through the boxes.
"YES! I read the whole manga extremely confused until a friend explained to me where I was reading. Then I fell in love!". Alice said, laughing.
- I don't think I could have ever guessed that she could like that stuff. - Ethan thought.
"Aww, how cute!". Alice said, backing away.
"What?" Ethan asked, getting up with some manga in his hands.
When he turned around, Alice was holding the little penguin light that Ethan used to sleep with.
"Are you afraid of the dark? Which is pretty funny, since you've mastered the shadows...". Alice said, laughing.
"No! I'm not afraid! I used to wear it when I was little, I kept it as a souvenir!". Ethan said, handing the sleeves to Alice and trying to take the penguin from her hand.
"Oh yeah? Then why was it in the socket?". Alice said, dodging it.
"My mother didn't get over it. She always puts it back in the socket! Ethan said, clenching his eyelashes.
"I know..." Alice said, handing over the penguin and picking up the manga.
She walked over to the bed and sat down, to admire the books Ethan had handed her.
"Pet Shop of Horrors? I can't believe you have this manga!". Alice said, impressed.
"What about it? You like it?" Ethan said, sitting down on the other side of the bed.
"I love it too much! I can't believe you have it! It was one of the first I read, but I never found it again!". Alice replied, flipping through the pages.
"Which part do you like best?". Ethan asked, trying to figure out what the manga was about.
"Ah, it's several stories, right? I think 'Daughter' is the best story for me!". She said, looking for the part she had said.
Alice opens the page of the manga and turns to Ethan, her finger on the picture of a girl with long blonde hair, wearing a dress and a large bow on her head.
"This one!" She said.
"Hm, I don't really remember what happens, what is it again?". Ethan asked, looking at Alice.
"See this little girl? She was the daughter of this couple here, but she was very sick and ended up dying. So they decided to adopt an animal to ease the loss of their daughter. But when they went to the pet shop, they saw this rabbit, but all they could see was the image of their dead daughter! Alice said, flipping through the pages and showing the pictures.
"HUH? REALLY?" Ethan said, widening his eyes.
"You don't remember?". Alice asked, confused.
"It's been a long time since I read it. I must have read it without paying attention properly.". Ethan said, looking away.
"Well, the rule of the adoption is that they couldn't give the rabbit any other types of food other than vegetables and fruit. If not, they would have consequences...". Alice said, looking into Ethan's eyes.
"What consequences...?". Ethan asked, amused.
"Then you'll have to read the manga!". Alice smiled, gently.
"Oh!" Ethan said, indignant.
"Speaking of pets... Where's Umb?" Alice asked, looking around.
"Oh, he's sleeping in my closet!". Ethan replied, getting up and going towards the light and turning off the switch. He walked over to the closet, looking for Umb.
"In the closet? Why is that sleeping there?" Alice asked, trying to see inside the closet.
"Well, Umb is made of shadows. So if a really strong light touches it, it could end up dying!". Ethan said, taking Umb in his hand, who was stretching out from sleeping so much. "So I leave it sleeping in the closet, so there's no risk of the light catching it.
"Oh, I see! Isn't there any way to make him stronger?" She asked, smiling at Umb, who seemed happy to see Alice.
"Theoretically yes, but I'm still learning how to do it better! Before he couldn't even touch the moonlight, but he's better now!". Ethan said, opening the windows and letting the daylight in.
"Can you create more of this?". Alice asked, seeing Umb trying to climb into her lap.
"I think so, but I don't know how I did that. Umb was kind of an 'accident'!". Ethan said, looking at Umb, who seemed outraged at the news. "But a great accident!". Ethan said, running his finger over the shadow hamster's head, trying to comfort Umb.
"I don't think I've ever had a pet." Alice said.
"You never told me about your life...how did you become a vampire?". Ethan asked, leaning his back against the wall.
"It's a bit of a long story. I don't know if you're that interested.". Alice said, laughing shyly.
"I like listening to you, Alice!". Ethan replied, sitting closer to Alice.
