Chapter 3: Becoming a Mage & Talks

Alexander Leywin's POV:

About two years have passed. It's been an interesting couple of years as I slowly grew up, but I'm still a toddler. I have grown closer to my new family, and I've grown to love them.

Having my first word as "Mama" made mom burst into tears, but it's proof that she is a true mother. I adore her affection for Art and for me. Being an orphan at a young age, you never know what it's meant to feel affection from parents, but I'm glad that in my second life I have affectionate parents.

Art always sneaks into the study room. I didn't follow him because I focused on meditating to gather tens of thousands of bits of mana into my solar plexus. In Art's previous life, he learned ki, so he basically knew how to do it already. In my previous world, there were no such things as mana or ki, so I had disadvantages compared to Art, but I slowly learned how to.

I must admit that, even though I have a better start than Art, I'm slower at gathering bits of mana into the solar plexus. The slow progress is killing me. Boredom could some day be the death of me.

Despite the fact that I'm slower, I'm not giving up. There are still big advantages to awakening at a young age compared other children so I don't need to be depressed if Art awakened faster than me... but wait, when Art awakened it cause the house to blow up.

Damn it, I need to keep an eye on Art in case he's going to awaken because there's no way I want to taste an explosion at the age of two.

* * *

I watched Art from the side as he read books. Suddenly, we hear a loud sound from outside. I guess it's from dad since he's been doing magic lately in the backyard. Mom then goes outside to scold him.

I read books while watching Art, so I don't get bored. It's not about magic stuff but about fairytales. I notice Art entering a meditative state...I have a bad feeling about this.

I went to Art and said, "Brother, go outside so you don't blow the house up."

Art snapped out of the meditation state, realized what he was doing, and gave me a curt nod before going outside to the empty field. Whereas, on the other side of the house, mom was still scolding dad.

I observed from a safe distance since I would not waste an opportunity to see someone awakened and not get hurt by the impact.

Art started to glow and shine. He's started to levitate. Damn, that's so cool. However, it's not the end as Art has yet to awaken.

BOOM!

The surrounding field is charred. The explosion was powerful enough to cause the terrain to be destroyed.

Damn, if Art awakened at the house, I would be dead by now. Fortunately, fate is not that evil to let me have a silly death at a young age in my second life.

I heard someone shouting. It must be Mom's shout.

"Art! Alex!"

I see Dad and Mum arrive at the scene that Art caused. They are in utter shock as they stare at Art's levitating in the air. Art slowly descends to the ground. Dad is on his knee as he has mixed reactions on his face.

I stared at the scene with a stoic face. The lack of surprise made Mom feel weird.

Art finally snapped out of his king mode and he was stunned to see the impact of the awakening process. He turned around to see Dad and Mum staring at him in disbelief, while I grinned at seeing my stupid brother panic.

"I'm sorry Mom, Dad. Am I in trouble?"

"Haha... No Art honey, you're not in trouble. We were just worried about you. I'm glad you're alright." Mum managed to chuckle through half teary eyes.

My idiot Dad suddenly become excited."My boy is a genius! Awakened at the age of less than three! This is unprecedented! I thought I was fast, but jeez!"

So a couple of moments of a picture-perfect atmosphere was broken when a neighbor passing by screamed, "What in the world?!"

"Haha, we better clean this mess up,"

He grinned, rubbing the back of his head.

*Time skip*

A couple of weeks had passed since then. We decided to keep Art's awakening a secret for now. Dad managed to contact a couple of his past Adventurer party members to help fix the decimated ground. They quickly and easily fixed the ground.

Our birthday came around (May 29). Mum and Dad woke us up that morning with a present, and what seemed to be a loaf of....bread(?) in their hands.

But it's a cake! I thought we would be celebrating our birthday with bread.

Next is the present. We got a carved wooden sword for us. I'm not a sword fanatic, but I'm happy to receive a wooden sword. We thanked them. I'm very grateful to have loving parents.

A few months later, I awaken as a mage. On one hand, dad became prouder as he has two sons that awakened at a very young age. On the other hand, Mom just sighed as she witnessed me becoming a mage.

The ground got decimated again and some of the gardens got destroyed too which led Mum to scold me.

Art is perplexed as he watches me awaken...Hold on, does he know that I'm reincarnated too? Maybe he knows? I planned to hide my secret to the grave, but with me being abnormal, I guess it's inevitable that Art will know.

Now how do I confront Art about it?

Arthur Leywin's POV:

Alexander Leywin, my twin brother, is weird. I thought he was just a normal baby, when he daydreams, he's really stoic, but that's not the reason I'm thinking this. His behavior is not what a baby would do. I may not be an expert on baby stuff, but I'm sure that Alex's behavior is abnormal for someone who is supposed to be a baby.

Suddenly, Alex awakened at age 3. I'm sure he's reincarnated like me, but I never see him reading about mana or magic books. The chance of him being so talented that he's awakened at a young age is impossible without having the mental capacity of an adult.

I wanted to confront him about it but I'm afraid, I don't want our relationship to deteriorate because of it. Maybe he is reincarnated but refuses to talk about it, or maybe he isn't.

We sleep in the same room since the room is wide enough for two beds.

At night, mother and father left the room.

I was prepared to go to sleep when I heard Alex speak to me.

3rd person POV:

"Brother?" Alex called out to Arthur.

Alex gaze at Arthur with his stoic face.

"Yeah?"

"You are reincarnated person, aren't you?"

Arthur widened his eyes.

"Then are you reincarnated?"

Alex nodded.

"How long you know that I am reincarnated?"

Alex then paused for a few seconds before answering.

"I already assume that you are reincarnated person like me when you are not acting like a normal baby but I was unsure, however, when you awakened, I was sure that you are reincarnated too."

Arthur seemed conflicted that his twin brother already knew that he was reincarnated but was unaware that Alex was reincarnated too. Of course, what Alex told Arthur was a lie, as he already knew from the start of their birth, but that doesn't matter.

"Then what about you going to do?"

Alex softly smiles, which is rare.

"Nothing. Let's just keep it this way. You are my brother and I'm your brother, I'm Alexander Leywin and you are Arthur Leywin. Our reincarnation secret will be revealed to our parents someday, but for now, let's just live our lives."

Arthur was stunned but quickly composed himself. Arthur then smiles too. Alex is right, there's no need to overthink the past; they just need to live their new life.

"You're right."

"Since it's already past bedtime, let's quickly go to sleep."

Arthur nodded.

"Goodnight, brother."

"Goodnight."

They quickly fall asleep as they don't realize how sleepy they are when talking.

~

Art awakened when he's almost three.

Alex awakened when he's barely three.
