Chapter 2: Karl Pearson

My name is Rebecca, I am the daughter of the Keeper's Inn owner, Theodore. Currently, I am working as my father's business as a waitress and mascot.

I wore a pretty homemade body decorations, jewelries made by father's rough hand, and I was told that my chestnut hair that extend to my shoulder perfectly fit my tall height and humble dressing. My eyes are beautiful ash gray similar to my mother's. I was praised by the townspeople as the most beautiful girl.

I am quite flattered by their words, which grew to become my source of confidence for my own appearance. Then one day, I was told by my father,

"My dear Rebecca, if you may, would you like to work here for the time being? Of course not until you find your beloved."

I was drowning with happiness the moment my father told me that. And of course, I full-heartedly accepted.

And now, I am always serving the townspeople, children, men, or may it be a fellow fair maidens that I usually encounter when they eat and stay in this humble abode of ours.

While I am currently at my work, serving people to my heart's desires , there is this particularly strange person that just entered our inn. A person who is even taller than my father which stands 6'1 feet tall, wearing what seems to be a high-quality clothing colored full of darkness. With his heart-piercing gaze, it made me flinch the moment we met our eyes.

But of course, I am this town's most beautiful, nothing can falter me anymore. And so, I stepped up and acted as a dignified person.

"Welcome to the Keeper's Inn, I am Rebecca, may I ask this shining knight's name?" after that, I smirk upon seeing the baffled face of the confused man.

How's that for an attack?

"My name? Oh right... My name, it's Pearson."

"What?"

Soon, the world turn into a stop. And as if my ears suddenly exploded, I can't hear anything.

Did I hear him right?

"May you please repeat your name, dear guest?"

"Ah... I'm sorry, I must've spoken lowly. My name is Pearson, Karl Pearson."

"Eh?"

'Pearson? Pearson?'

"I think I have heard your name before." I asked, still feeling a little uncertain about it.

'Pearson, Pearson, Pearson. T-that's right.... That's right!!! I-It's Pearson!!!'

"The Ruler of Pearson, a land once stated as non-habitable. No way was he able to salvage it and became the leading territory of the Maginot Empire in terms of economic growth." Suddenly, I heard a grumpy voice behind my back. When I turned my head, I saw my father, who never once I knew of doing, kneeling right in front of us.

I was also then suddenly grabbed forcibly by my mother who followed my father's action. And I didn't even notice it, but the entire people within the Inn are now kneeling.

"We welcome you once more, eternal lord of Pearson. With all of our hearts, we truly are grateful for your return." My father said in a broken voice, when I watch him closely, I also noticed he is crying.

"I see."

This time, my father prostrated. Again, followed by the numerous guests within the Inn upon hearing the voice of the man.

"We beg of you, My Dear Lord... Please, don't leave us no longer. For we are mere peasants and we still seek and need your guidance."

I was confused at first, to see my father stepping upon his dignity just to beg for this man, he even acted as the leader of the people as if they all have one intention, and then I realize.

That's right.

It's been 25 years since anyone last seen him. I wasn't even born at the time when he leave so I don't have much knowledge about his achievements except for what my father told me.

Actually, my knowledge is simply secondary for I have only heard of him from others. I do sometimes read books at college and school when I have the time, but his name was rarely mentioned.

But my father and everyone who was born at that time knew very well what happens at the time of his ruling. And according to his tones and words, he was very much thankful for this lord. A lord who sympathize with his people, a lord who tries so hard to avoid his people's death, that even at winter which is renowned to be the most dangerous season, the land of Pearson have no records of death.

Some, even my father, see him as a deity.

When I raise my head to see the man's expression, I can only see half of his face. He remained expressionless, that's what I can see. But slowly, he tried to reach for my father's head which is currently touching the floor.

"It must be hard."

And that's the final straw that currently stops them from expressing their restraining feelings.
