Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Why is your countenance sour?” Kwofo looked at me in concern.

I tried my most damn hard to fail the test.

The gods know I have no intention of attending the Academy.

Knowing my father, he must have called in some favours to make sure I wasn’t left out.

Gods forbid the crown Prince of Ugali not to attend the distinguished academy.

It doesn’t help the fact that am completely magic-less, added to the fact that I suck in combat.

A day or two at the academy will bring my weakness to the limelight.

I forced a smile, no use rubbing my sadness on another person, “am ecstatic.

Thousands of Makoha’s students attend the testing each year, but only a few hundreds are chosen, why won’t I be happy?”

Kwofo like every other seventeen years, Teenagers have gotten their powers, and I'm still waiting for a miracle as my mom asked me to.

“A miracle comes whenever you dream, Buchi, believe in what in whatever you see."

Thinking of my mom brought up both sad and happy memories.

Kwofo's gift is healing, he can heal everything raging from little cuts to fatal wounds, what he does heal is a broken heart, which I know first-hand he can’t do since he hasn’t been able to mend my broken heart.

“Don’t worry, who knows you might get your powers in the morning of your eighteenth birthday, you’re not the first person it has happened to.” he tries to console

He knows I always get emotional whenever I remember my lack of powers, it’s a sign of weakness, something that isn’t condoned in Makoha.

“The strong prey on the weak”, that’s my father’s favourite word.

“Am not thinking of my powers, or lack of it, just sad I am going to leave you behind when I start schooling.

I’ve gotten used to your presence, life wouldn’t be the same without you in it.

“You flatter me, your highness”, he blushed.

I’ve tried countless times to get him to refer to me as Buch all to no avail, he lectures me whenever I request he calls me by my name.

I’ve given up all hope on him seeing me as a friend and not as a prince he’s obliged to serve.

“Did you by chance find out the day am to leave for the Academy?”

It wouldn’t hurt to know the day to be sacrificed to the predators at the academy, with my fellow humans.

I can comport and hope they don’t find out about my disabilities, but the academy is attended by both wolves and vampires.

Rumour had it that, vampires can sniff a lie.

I won’t sweat on it, since my father worked for me to attend the academy, he can also work it out to see me through the four years course.

“You’re to be in the academy before sanal”, he disclosed.

Oh, gods, it can’t be true, sanal is just two days from now, and they are expecting me to be in school by then?

They must be stupid.

“Why sanal is merely two days from now, they didn’t give packing time, how do they expect a person to start school two days from the day the letter was on?"

I paced the floors.

This must be a sick joke, yes that’s what it is, a sick poor joke.

“Based on the security measures that are on the planet, the academy doesn’t want its admission this year to be an all-crowd event, the principal wants a discreet event, one that can only be attended by the parents."

Makoha was a safely hidden planet before the wars alerted other planeters about the lives in Makoha since then Kemorrah has been trying to evade our territory.

They might have succeeded were it not for the magic in us, the offensive magic users _our defenders, it’s mostly filled with humans since we’re the only ones among the species gifted with the outstanding gift of magic_ have been positioned in strategic places to thwart the efforts of the other planters.
