Chapter 2: Chapter 1: The boy

It was cold and dark.

I don't know how long it's been since I've first found myself stuck here, trapped in a ceaseless drift throughout the vast expansion of eternity.

Only managing to have maintained my sanity through the faint memories constantly churning within my mind. However to be honest there isn't much more I know than that.

Hours, days, years, it's all meaningless in this vast void of nothingness. My only solace managing to be the very few clear memoirs of a 'game' lingering freely through my brain.

They're the only thing keeping me from completely loosing my mind, though again, there's isn't much of that remaining anymore.

'What am I even doing..where am I..how long have I been here..I want to go home..where is home?..'

Before I could once again indulge myself in my everyday monologue I heard a family, eerie sound, like a bell chiming after dusk, along with it a pale while screen with a rectangular shape appeared within the void.

[Ding!]

[Hello host! Sorry for the delay!]

[There had been a few issues with the synchronization!]

[But fear not! For I am here! Your very own support system!]

The pop-up messages continued on for a while, giving me in the meantime a few moments that allowed me to completely understand the situation.

The sudden appearance of a "System" left me with many questions. Like what exactly "is" a system, and why did it show up now. Where did this "System" come from?

"System?"

[Yes host?]

"What..are you…." The weary words, barely managing to hide my suspicion quietly echoed from the abyss. My eyes, or rather my gaze continued to linger on the blank window screen with a growing sense of caution.

[Im your support system host!]

[Specifically designed to help you in your endeavors!]

"That didn't answer my question..where did you come from.."

[I was sent to you by "The one" as a gift!]

When I heard these words I couldn't help but reel back from shock and a sense of unbridled anger.

The mere thought that my ending up in this hell was the act of some "superior being" made me feel Ill. The bottled up emotions I kept so confined as a means of preserving my sanity surged outward.

"A gift..you being trapped in this damn endless void a gift..you think almost losing my mind a hundred times over..just for some lousy voice in my head is a gift!"

"How dare you- GAH!"

In the middle of my rant I could feel a throbbing ache originating where my head should be, the sensation was excruciating, almost as if someone clobbering my brain with a hammer.

[Calm down Host!]

[The time you've spent here has made your soul rather weak.]

Enduring the pain hatred accumulating in my heart I manage to calm my mind after a couple minutes, letting out a few self deprecating words.

"And what do you want me to do…I've been here for years and haven't even seen so much as a spec of dust..not before you showed up."

[Don't worry, "The One" has already predicted this.]

[It should be hear at any moment now.]

"What are you even talking about-..

However before I could finish my sentence I felt a fierce tug pulling away at my heartstrings. The sensation spurring throughout my very being.

"..W..hats…hap..ening.. s-system!"

[Don't worry host, you just need to stay awake as the fusion ends]

"W..What fusion!"

My thoughts scrambled as the tugs began to morph in to fierce pulls, threatening to devour me whole, leaving me to fight desperately in fear of what might happen if I don't.

"S..to..p"

My futile attempts only seemed to make me grow more agitated, I could feel the pulling grow in intensity as I started begging pathetically.

My hopes, dreams, all of it felt meaningless in the face of true death.

"N..No..!"

However despite this, a fire i long felt had been lost slowly ignited, fueled by all the rage, sadness, pain, and loneliness I could muster.

It burned, seared through the pain, the agony of my consciousness battling to stay dominant in this exchange.

"I've..spent an..Eternity..in this…fucking..shit hole..!"

"I'll be damned if I just..wasted away and died here!"

Summoning every remaining ounce of will I had left; i reeled back with a fierceness I never possible, finally gaining the upper hand in this tug of war I heard a loud and audible noise.

POP!

Looking towards the source of the noise, was a scene that stunned me.

"I-Is that..a feather?"

It was beautiful, shimmering almost translucent like with faint blotches of multicolored light, drifting along in a meadow.

But before I could continue enjoying its dazzling beauty the urgent, almost lifelike voice of the system rang out once more.

[Host! Grab that feather now!]

Hearing those words, as if by instinct I reached out with my palm, managing to catch it before it disappeared.

And immediately; the moment that feather landing in my grasp I felt it slowly dissolve into my hand, leaving behind an enormous feeling of euphoria.

"O-Oh..oh my god..system what is-"

[That, host is a feather from a divine phoenix]

["The One" specifically sent it down as an aid]

"Oh..is that so.."

I couldn't bother with the system anymore, it's words fell on deaf ears as I simply enjoyed this feeling. The sensation of having my existence wrapped into a warm cocoon blanket was enough to make my already drowsy mind succumb to its exhaustion.

"I-I just..don't care anymore..right now everything just..feels so good.."

Drowning in the endless stream of comfort emanating through ever pore within his being, he slowly drifted off further into an inescapable slumber.

.

..

Within a flashy yet dimly lit room a boy sat face buried into his knees weeping.

His cries resounded the room resulting in a rather depressing atmosphere. A dark contrast to the seemingly fancy bedroom where if one should look even remotely closer than the surface, they would notice there lay traces of malice. The widows were sealed shut as the silk curtain contained tiny bits and pieces ripped from its edges.

The gold lined wardrobe and dressing room held an unlawful amount of dust and pollen. The bed frame for his king sized mattress appears withered and beaten as the mattress appeared stained with puddles of clear liquid.

A pitiful excuse for what one would call a luxurious living space.

Yet the boy payed none of this any heed as he remained within the darkest corners of his confines. Separated from any form of light that dared to creep its way inside.

His tears created a thin stream flowing from his feet towards the center of his bed, staining its fluorescent white with a vile saltiness.

Sitting next to him, lay a bottle of medicine, it's prescription unknown as the boys rhythmic breathing grows heavy.

His body trembling as his perspiration creates even more puddles of vile stink.

Fatigued he lay into his bedsheets as he closed his eyes, aware of the inevitable fate that he had bestowed upon himself, awaiting for the warm embrace of death.

When within the very corners of his fading vision, a brilliant white feather appeared. It's gentle radiance appeared blinding to the despairing young man, and so subconsciously, with the last remaining fibers of his strength he reached out.

His hand clasping at the infinite promise of peace it's holy appearance bestowed him with.

However, it's wasn't enough.

Even with the last embers of his will, his hand had not reached the promised treasures within the feather.

The boy collapsed, as the last remaining image within his eyes before his soul passed on, was its gently gleam heading towards him.

His now empty husk of a body laid flat on his protruding mattress.

Not before the feather, like a magnet, headed towards the boys body. Seemingly attracted to its availability.

The feather landing on the boys hand as it flared, it's shine seemed to swallow up the very essence of the dark as it descended into his body in the form of particles.

Seconds passed before the room returned to it's melancholy feel, as the body laying deceased started breathing ever so gently.

His eyes quivered as they protrude open slowly, gazing into the ceiling in wonder as his mind raced with countless questions and consultations.

However the only thing he could even muster the strength to reply with was a simple two worded phrase.

"I'm..free.."
