Chapter 25: My dear Zephyr

Xylon was taken aback when he heard his demon name spoken aloud for the first time in 18 long years.

He felt exposed, vulnerable, as if he had been stripped bare in front of this spectral presence. But then, as he listened to the voice of the last soul keeper, a feeling of deep curiosity began to bloom within him.

"You see, my dear Zephyr," the voice said, "when one spends countless years in a small, confined space, doing a job that they despise, they begin to conjure up all sorts of ideas. I too had my fair share of thoughts of suicide, of escape, of rebellion against the system that had imprisoned me. But then, one day, a different idea occurred to me. It came to me suddenly, unexpectedly, as if from some divine source."

Arthur's expression was twisted with a sense of madness as he spoke about his plans. His eyes glinted with a fierce determination, and his lips curled into a wicked grin.

It was clear that he had become consumed by his desire to bring about change, and he was willing to do whatever it took to achieve his goals.

He seemed almost manic as he spoke, his voice rising and falling with the intensity of his emotions. His hands gestured wildly, emphasizing his words and adding to the sense of chaotic energy that surrounded him.

"You see, I had the power to reject your soul, and everything would have ended there. Even the lord of demons cannot get their hands on the divine pure energy that exists in this place.

But I did not reject your soul. Instead, I had an epiphany. I realized that I had the opportunity to bring about change, to disrupt the system that had brought me so much misery. I could have allowed the reincarnation of the real Xylon Sinclair, a man who was a lunatic in his past life.

It was a truly unsettling sight to behold, and Xylon couldn't help but feel a creeping sense of confusion and unease as he listened to Arthur's twisted plans.

"But, because of this corrupted system, he was granted a second chance at life. I refused that reincarnation because I wanted to change something, to ruin everything. I wanted to bring about true change, and that is why I chose to reject that brat's reincarnation." His eyes seemed to glint with a dark amusement as he spoke

Xylon was taken aback by the revelation that Arthur Sinclair was responsible for his acceptance into the human world. The realization that his fate had rested in the hands of this man was almost too much to bear.

If Arthur had chosen to reject his soul, Xylon would have been doomed to death when Balthyrov killed him.

"I understand that you may believe that it was the test that led you to this place, but I must tell you the truth," Arthur spoke with a solemn tone. "Your job here was always meant to be that of a soul keeper. From the very beginning, I had written your name and sent it to those in charge. The test was merely a game, a formality to make it seem as though there was a fair process in place."

Xylon's mind was racing as he tried to process the weight of Arthur's words.

Arthur's eyes glinted with malice as he spoke with an unmistakable air of satisfaction. "My dear Zephyr," he began, "I know that demons are corrupt to the very core of their beings. That is precisely why I want you to fuck them all."

His lips curled into a wicked smile as he continued. "You now have complete control over my books, my farm, and all the souls I have accumulated over the years. Use them to your advantage and unleash your wrath upon the humans"

Arthur's voice grew quieter, almost conspiratorial. "Remember, Zephyr, I chose you for a reason"

Suddenly, Arthur's voice rose in volume as he gave Xylon a warning. "And take care of Akuna," he said firmly. "She is not what she appears to be. For me, she was a mere cat, but beware, she can take on many shapes."

Xylon furrowed his brows in confusion as he heard the name Akuna. He looked around the room but there was no one there except for the dog, who seemed to be innocently standing next to him. He shrugged it off and returned his attention to the recording.

" Akuna ?" Xylon wondered.

But then, Arthur's last words caught him off guard. "Make sure to drink my remains!" he said with a wicked cackle. Xylon recoiled in disgust, feeling sick to his stomach at the thought.

Xylon was left in stunned silence as the recording ended, his eyes fixated on the crystal that held the revelations of Arthur's true nature.

He couldn't believe what he had just learned, that Arthur had been the one responsible for his acceptance into the human world all along. It was a realization that left him feeling both grateful and awestruck.

But what truly surprised him was the fact that Arthur had been able to resist the system, a system that was so deeply ingrained in the fabric of their world.

Xylon couldn't help but feel a sense of kinship with this frail human, who had somehow managed to find the strength to go against the norms that governed their existence.

Xylon carried the bones out of the house and into the open air, where he could better channel his magic.

He stood there, feeling the weight of the bones in his hands, as he summoned a powerful hammer with his magic.

With one swift motion, he brought the hammer down onto the bones, crushing them into fine dust.

As he watched the remnants of Arthur's bones turn to dust, he felt a sense of satisfaction wash over him.

Xylon carefully placed them into a small glass bottle. He added some water to it and watched as the remains dissolved into the liquid. It was a strange feeling, knowing that he was drinking the remnants of someone who had once been alive. But it was a necessary step in his plan.

He lifted the bottle to his lips and took a deep gulp. The liquid was bitter and unpleasant, but he knew that it was important. As he swallowed, he could feel a surge of energy coursing through his body.

"I will make sure to end them all, no exception,"
