Chapter 9: Gains
"Oh, that. I was kicked out", her tone was so nonchalant-just like she was making a passing comment-he almost didn't believe her,
He cocked a brow and relaxed his rigid seating position while turning his gaze to the ceiling,
"How do you get kicked out of an orphanage?"
"Apparently, I was stealing from both staff and children", his only response was a small chuckle,
"Did you though?" He asked, almost like he couldn't fathom it. Considering the fact she'd committed crimes worse than theft, it was actually pretty ironic
She didn't give him a clear response only murmuring a "does it really matter now?"
He didn't relapse on the questions though, and carried on asking more, they were a bit personal but he tried making sure not to cross the line with them,
"Then how did you end up meeting Zhang Wei?", He knew Zhang Wei, they had met before and would occasionally see each other in large gatherings, they had only ever shared few pleasantries though, so he had never thought much about him, but learning a few days ago that he was Liling's boss, he just had to satiate some curiosity,
She didn't say anything for a short while, and as he thought to tell her she didn't have to say anything if it was a sore topic, she spoke up
" Well it was exactly twelve years ago,"

Li hao sat typing away at his laptop, he had just received it from his assistant a few minutes ago. Liling had fallen asleep, the weight of everything had finally wore her down so much, even she hadn't realized how tired she was.
He took a little glance at her sleeping face, she was sitting up but her neck was positioned at an angle that looked a little uncomfortable, so he took the liberty of adjusting her, placing her head on his shoulder, she seemed to visibly relax unconsciously and didn't wake up, so he took that as a win
He would occasionally take little glances at her, telling himself that he was just checking up on her, but he knew the actual reason; she was pretty and he was eating it up. 'She actually looks cute when she not trying to murder me'
He chuckled as he thought back to their first meeting a few days ago, well not first meeting, first meeting, he had always known she existed in the office, but other than that he drew a blank. Now thinking about all the things she had told him in the last two hours, how she had gone through so much in her childhood to care for her brother, how she had made the deal that basically changed her life in the very hospital she was currently in, and how she had taken her first life without batting an eyelid to survive, he almost couldn't believe how surreal it sounded.
He smirked a bit to himself as he remembered her reaction when he had proposed three days ago, he wondered how much of a weirdo she might see him as now, a very big one he supposed, but he wouldn't say he was a saint who was trying to help her only from the goodness of his heart, he had his reasons, he was gonna use her, and she would use him. All in all, it was just about gains.
