Chapter 27: They Didn't Know That

"Grateful for your understanding. Now please leave"

Shen Ru grabbed the papers with a sneer and walked out the office, slamming the door behind her.

Letting out a heavy sigh, she rested her head in her hands, just like that, their 11 year old friendship had come to an end,

She looked up the clock on the wall, 5:54, it was just six minutes before 6 o'clock,

Getting up from her chair, she organized every thing on her desk, then getting her bag, she left the office, locking the door behind her,

She walked down to the elevator ignoring the inquisitive stares from her colleagues- which were in no doubt a result of Li Hao's visit earlier - ,then clicked on the down button to go underground,

The "ding" of the elevator signified the end of her short journey, and the doors opened,

She stepped out and surveyed her surroundings. The floors and walls were made of polished black marble, there were an array of expensive cars parked , with each one boasting larger prices than the other, and the company's initials- LC- had designed the floor space in gold,

She spotted Li Hao making his way to her, so walked over to meet him.

~Abandoned Warehouse

Liling got out and looked around. A large and fairly old warehouse stood a small distance away, and she could see the shore and dock a little farther out,

He lead the way to warehouse, and opened the large metal door. With a comical bow and a smile, he let her in first, "Welcome to my humble little syndicate",

Throwing him a suspicious look, she walked in,

The entire space was dark, save for the sparse amount of light coming through the open door and a few windows, but she could just about make out crates and boxes littered around the dusty concrete floor,

She suddenly felt something slice through the air, subconsciously, she took a step back as it narrowly missed her and connected with the floor,

Her eyes darkened as she stared down at the dagger that had just almost hit her, without a pause, another one came down from the other side of the warehouse, but Liling was more prepared and dodged it entirely,

She picked them up and waited a few seconds, before sending them back in the direction they came from,

A barrage of daggers came practically raining down, but Liling easily avoided them all. In that little time, Liling had noticed two things.

First, they couldn't use the darkness properly.

Sure enough they were using the the darkness as a cover, but they weren't completely using it to their advantage. They were also only able to locate her using the light coming from outside, meaning if she walked deeper inside, she would be completely out of their line of sight,

Using her observations to its fullest, she walked further inside, and, just as she expected, there were no daggers accurately pinpointing her,

Grabbing three daggers from the floor, she decided she would end the fight quickly. She threw one in Li Hao's direction, just by the door, and he was caught off guard.

He barely managed to dodge it, and as a result, couldn't react fast enough to Liling's next moves. Before he knew it, she was behind him, and had sandwiched his neck between the two other blades.

The second thing Liling had understood was, they were completely avoiding Li Hao, and they were being careful to avoid him, he was completely off guard and so she had used that in her favour. She wasn't intending to hurt him though, but, they didn't know that.
