Chapter 18: Hypnosis

Amber raced up the stairs the moment Arty guided the limo into the parking lot. Without a word to anyone, she hurried into the house and shut herself in the room.

Huddled at the corner of the room, she shivered uncontrollably, hands wrapped tight around her knees. She didn't even change out of her wedding dress that was stained with her father's blood.

She looked so pale, with her mouth trembling from unshed tears. Her hair lay scattered in wavy strands. Somewhere in between Arty taking her home, the bun had come undone.

First she thought of her father. He was dead, and she would never see him again. Hot tears spilled down her eyes when realization dawned on her that her father was gone forever.

She would never get to see him again.

It was at this point that Wendy knocked on the door, asking Amber if she was okay and if she would like to have some dinner.

She was ignored.

Amber then remembered the strange things that she had witnessed that day. The strange abilities of Draco, along with that woman. The darkness of their eyes.

And she shivered when she remembered the fangs that had been visible, sharp, elongated and gleaming wickedly as they fought.

She didn't want to jump into conclusions, didn't want to assume things. Vampires were myths. They didn't exist in a world like hers. They existed in fairy tales and fantasies.

Not in a human world like hers.

She adamantly refused to believe that Draco was a vampire. If he was one, then how many more were out there? Was Wendy one? Arty? And the bulky bodyguards that followed him around too?

Amber felt her head would split in two. The thoughts going through her mind was making her head pound painfully.

She needed to escape. She thought getting married to a man as handsome and wealthy as Draco would be the best thing to ever happen to her.

Now that she was experiencing strange things, she wasn't so sure. She needed to find a way to leave the house and escape.

Her father was gone. Clarissa may never come back again.

She had no one in the world. But still, she couldn't stay in this strange house and its strange people.

Suddenly she felt something drop on the roof of the house. It sounded heavy.

Slowly getting up on her feet, she moved towards the window and peeked outside. She saw nothing.

As quiet as she could, she opened the doors that led to the terrace, shivering slightly from the cold air.

A scream nearly tore out of her when a body dropped from the roof.

She rushed to the railings and looked down, terrified that someone had fallen from the rooftop.

Her eyes widened when she saw Draco land on his feet easily. He didn't even stumble or show signs of pain. She watched him disappear as he entered the house.

Making up her mind instantly, she rushed to the door and opened it as silent as she could. She wished she could take off the wedding dress, but she couldn't do it on her own. Besides, she suddenly had a strong urge to go out there.

Pulling the hem of the dress up so it wouldn't drag behind her, she tiptoed to the top of the stairs and listened. She could hear Arty's voice, then Wendy.

And finally she heard Draco.

"We will not return to the realm. Our kind has lived in secret among the humans for years. I'm not about to change it now"

Amber frowned. Realm? His kind? What were they talking about?

"But Master, what about Amber?"

Amber's ears perked up when she heard her name. They were talking about her now.

"Have you placed her under hypnosis?",she heard Draco ask.

"No Master. She locked herself inside the room the minute we arrived home"

Amber clamped her hand over her mouth to prevent the slightest sound from emitting. Hypnosis? Were they going to erase her memories?

Her heart suddenly skipped a beat when she saw Draco look straight at her.

She held her breath, hands tight over her mouth. Did he notice her? Did her white dress give her away?

He turned his face away and she let out the breath she was holding. He didn't see her. But his next words made her go pale with fright and shock.

"I will place her under hypnosis and erase her memories. Everything else should go back to normal from tomorrow"

Amber didn't wait to listen to Wendy and Arty's reply. Her head kept ringing as Draco's voice repeated in her mind.

I will place her under hypnosis and erase her memories...

She jerked when Draco walked towards the stairs. His white shirt was stained with... what was that? Black blood?

Filled with terror at everything that was happening around her, she turned and fled back to the room.

She only had enough time to shut the door and hurry towards the bathroom when the door was yanked open with force and Draco stepped in. His upper body was bare, and his muscles bunched as he shut the door behind him.

His eyes scoured the room until it fell on her. The power in his gaze rendered her immobile and she could only watch as he dropped the shirt he held and march towards her.

"Draco...",she gasped and took a step back. Her feet caught in her dress and a strangled cry escaped her lips.

She fell back, hands splaying wildly in the air, trying to grab on to something to hold on to.

Strong arms closed around waist and pulled her upwards.

By the time Amber gained her balance, she was held tightly in Draco's embrace and his blue eyes were boring into hers.

"Did you hear everything?",he asked quietly.

Amber gulped nervously. Did he catch her eavesdropping? Had he seen her that time he looked straight at her?

"Answer me Amber!",he snapped at her. "Did you hear everything?"

Terrified of the anger in his eyes, Amber nodded.

"Did you see everything that happened at our wedding?",Draco asked next. His eyes remained blue but Amber could tell that he was furious.

She gave another nod.

Draco ground his teeth. He knew she saw everything, and she also eavesdropped on his conversation in the living room. He just wanted to be double sure.

"I should kill you",he said coldly. "I should end your life now because you're not meant to hear or witness what happened today"

Amber turned pale and tears spilled down her eyes. She didn't want to die.

"Please Draco",she pleaded through a throat tight with fright. "Please don't kill me. I won't say a word of what I heard and what I saw, I promise. If you want, I'll agree to a divorce and you will never see me again"

Draco chuckled darkly. "I have no intention of ever letting you go",he told her. One hand lifted and touched her face lightly. "You're my wife now, so divorce is out of the question"

Amber kept trembling in his arms. If he didn't want to divorce her, then what would he do with her? Would he kill her?

"I can't bring myself to hurt you",he said through gritted teeth, as if he was in pain. "But I can't let you have the knowledge about my kind"

Amber felt a little relief when he said he wouldn't hurt her. Timidly, she whispered.

"What exactly are you Draco?"

Her questions angered him and he glared at her. His eyes turned black and he wrapped his hands around her throat. There was no pressure, but still, Amber was terrified.

As she watched, a ring of red light appeared in the blackness that clouded his eyes and she felt herself being pulled in.

His voice sounded like it came out of the depths of an abyss.

"Forget about everything you saw today. The strange powers, the blood, your father's death, the conversation you heard. Forget about everything. The only thing you should remember is the happy ending of our wedding"

"The happy ending... of our wedding",Amber repeated in a trance.

Her legs trembled suddenly and she fell unconscious.
