Chapter 47: 47. Rat Horde

The beefy 6th level Qi cultivator was called Jin Erlang. He was a cultivator of the corpse-body transformation peak and was basically a body refinement cultivator.

Gu Wen and the last man, Xu Zhi, were both cultivators that didn't specialise in any core teaching of the corpse ghost sect but were still powerful combatants, regardless.

The team spent a brief time chatting together on how to integrate Fang Yang into the team.

The team went back and forth for a few minutes but eventually managed to sort everything out and with that; they prepared to enter the mines.

The team only took a few steps towards the mine entrance before the team had to stop.

For some reason, they could hear a faint rumbling that sounded almost like distant thunder. Everyone looked at each other confused before Shi Rong, who was leading the team, finally asked the question that was on everyone's mind

"Does anybody know what that sound is?"

But unfortunately, Shi Rong's question was only met with bewildered shrugs as nobody in the team had an answer.

And it wasn't just their team either.

All around the entrance of the mine, the countless teams had paused before they entered inside each one pondering what that strange sound could possibly be but each one was just as confused as the last.

"Rumble! Rumble!"

The once faint rumbling started getting louder and louder when a shocked voice rang out among the crowd.

"Hey, look over there!"

The man nearby shouted with a horrified expression as he pointed towards the mines, causing everyone to look in that direction.

Deep inside the mines, everyone saw a massive cloud of dust rushing towards them.

But as the cloud of dust grew closer and closer, the rumbling got louder.

Soon, the crowd of disciples could finally make something out.

It was the faint glistening of brown-gold fur these disciples stationed at the Spirit Gold mine were all too familiar with

Gold-eating rats!

They could see an absolute swarm, no, a sea of golden rats surging towards them that they couldn't even see the end of.

At that moment, no disciple was stupid enough to stick around to satisfy their curiosity anymore and quickly used their various movement techniques to get away as fast as possible.

But it was already too late.

The faster late stage gold-eating rats rushed out like a pack of sharks tearing into the crowd of disciples and mauling their way through them with no resistance.

With the chaos caused by the late stage gold-eating rats, the escape of the disciples was quickly halted. Allowing for the rest of the crowd of rats to catch up.

What happened next was simply all out war!

Rat bodies piled for and with no regard for their life, each one desperately trying to claw and bite away at the flesh of any nearby disciple.

But the Disciples of a place called the Corpse Ghost Sect could never be a bunch of pushovers.

The second they realised that they couldn't safely escape anymore, they launched a brutal offensive!

They fought back using whatever method they had, Corpse puppets, ghosts or even their own bodies. It didn't matter. They used everything at their disposal to battle the rat horde, causing blood to flow like rivers.

But even with such a violent and brutal display of force by the disciples of the Corpse Ghost Sect, they were still being pushed back.

The horde of rats was seemingly endless. For every rat killed, at least 2 would step up to take its place.

Fortunately, Fang Yang could still hold on somehow.

The second that he had spotted the rat horde, Shi Rong didn't sprint off quickly like other 9th level Qi cultivators.

He quickly knew that he wouldn't be able to escape and had instead gathered the group together and escaped with them all.

None of them would be able to refuse such a good deal, and it proved to be in their best interest.

Compared to the other cultivators that were fighting wildly by themselves, Fang Yang's group was fighting in an organised team structure, but this didn't mean they were having no pressure. The team was still working hard just being able to maintain the defensive line and their retreat had been completely halted.

Sensing things weren't going well, Shi Rong slapped the coffin on his back, causing it to fly open.

With Fang Yang's poor eyesight, he only saw two small blurs flash out of the coffin. It was only when he saw the sight of the two small zombie creatures holding the heads of two rats that Fang Yang could clearly see them and recognise them for what they are.

Baby zombies!

They weren't actually literal babies but instead children zombies, but this didn't stop people from calling them baby zombies.

The two 9th level iron zombies were fully unleashed, tearing through the swarm of gold-eating rats.

It was only when they met some powerful late stage rats that could control them that finally started to slow down.

But Shi Rong wasn't the only one to start fighting seriously.

The second that Shi Rong had slapped open his coffin, Ren Lab brought out a chime and after shaking it, a thick Yin Qi mist appeared around her as faintly transparent an apparition appeared behind her.

It was a female figure with ink black hair that reached down to her thighs that completely covered its face.

At that moment, 10 early stage gold lunged at Ren Lan, but Fang Yang just heard a ghostly shriek before the yin Qi around her raged like boiling water.

At that moment, the tendril like black hair on the ghost's body shot out and plunged into the gold eating rat's bodies draining them of all vitality.

With the two 9th rank cultivators taking action, a lot of the pressure was relieved, giving Fang Yang and the others that were about to be overwhelmed space to breathe.

Just as Fang Yang took a breath, his entire body began to tremble.
