Chapter 2: Sage Plowe

Clayton woke up with the ambition of making breakfast for his family. Yas was always doing it in the morning, so why not him. He smiled to himself as he turned the knob to warm water. As he washed his body, he could feel the essence of warm water consuming his skin. He wondered what he would cook. He couldn't just put cereal together. That seemed like he didn't care, but the thought of burnt pancake smell would send his whole gesture overboard. As he thought, he couldn't help, but overhear the sound of rustling underneath the door. What was he doing? Clayton watched as the dog continuously tried to dig its way under the bathroom door with no luck. Clayton couldn't help but give a confused look at his behavior. Did he want to come in? No, he hated the way water tapped ever so gently on the marble. So what did he want? It didn't take a while, but after a few seconds the digging stopped.

"Hey Koda!" His voice sounded unfamiliar to him as he spoke. He hasn't heard it in a while. It almost sounded as if it wasn't… his own. The sound of his voice echoed throughout the room causing his vision to get ever so slightly darker. Not wanting to slip, he quickly moved to grab a hold of the counter that lay in front of him. He watched as the dot moved from one place to another, slowly clouding his mind once more. As he wrapped the towel around his body, he wondered what it was that drink before. The last thing he drank was that tea that Yasmine gave him. Did she? Feeling some type of anger, Clayton quickly swung open the door to the bedroom.

"Oh hey," Yasmine's smile flashed ever so lovely as she stood near the closet. She wore a light blue blouse and a white sweater to go over it. "I woke up pretty late, so I decided to skip breakfast." Even though she spoke, she was ignored all the same. He needed to see the cup. What was in it? As he huddled himself downstairs he could hear his partner's steps questionably following him. "Clay, what are you doing?" He still didn't answer. He picked up the mug from the sink and quickly flipped it over to see what lied inside. Nothing. Nothing but dots of the tea leaves from the night before.

"Wha-" He felt the hand on his shoulder causing him to quickly push her hand back. "What did you do?" Still his question wasn't being answered. Yasmine's face still wore a face of confusion. Did she really not know? In an entire wave of fear, Clayton began to tell her everything. From the dog acting weird to his vision going all blurry to now. He expected her to be upset, he accused her of poisoning. But she just nodded.

"Clay, I think you need to rest." She goes on to tell him that Koda was in the room with their daughter. And based on the camera, he never left. At first he didn't believe her, he was there. He had to be. Who else would have scratched on the door? He moved himself to the dining room table to sit and rest. Maybe he did need to rest. Who knows how long it's been since he had a day off. He closed his eyes… before remembering something. He slowly stood up to not give off any urgency. Sage. He didn't even check up on her this morning. As he walked back up the stairs, he grabbed himself to the railway that connected each step. His eyes took each and every photo that was plastered on the wall as he moved. Pictures of him and Yasmine when they first wedded each other, pictures of their daughter's footprints, pictures of them first adopting Koda. Everything of their life was plastered on the two walls. He made a mental note to soon put everything in their respective rooms. If there were anyone breaking in for him, they didn't need to know about anyone else.

When he finally made his way to her room, some seemed off. Why would he forget her? Why wouldn't Koda come running out at the sound of footprints? It all seemed so… questionable.

But everything was answered after he opened the door. In front of him was the silhouette of a woman. Her eyes were as red as they were described. In her hand was a long heavy ax with the tip of the blade sitting so nicely beside the neck of Koda and… Sage.
