Chapter 8: Rahil: The Guardian of the Palace

As Ashen stood there, mesmerized by the sight before him, he watched as the water started to take on a new form. Gradually, it moulded itself into a figure that was almost human, but not quite. It was as if the ocean itself had been transformed into something sentient, something that recognized Ashen as its ruler. With a graceful bow, the water-being acknowledged him as its master, and Ashen couldn't help but feel a sense of awe wash over him like the very tides of the sea.

Upon closer inspection, he revealed himself as a handsome figure, his long black hair flowing like tendrils of seaweed in the water. With a regal bearing, he stood tall and proud, his piercing dark brown eyes revealing a sense of unwavering determination.

Adorned in a silver chest plate and a large golden necklace, he exuded an air of both strength and sophistication. Beneath his armour, he wore a flowing white dhoti with shades of blue, like the ebb and flow of the tides. In his grasp, he held two ancient-looking daggers, honed to a deadly point, poised and ready to obey the slightest command from Ashen.

Seeing the handsome yet ferocious Ashen materialize before Ashen's eyes was a shock, and yet, Ashen couldn't help but feel a sense of respect emanating from him as Ashen gazed deep into his eyes.

As soon as the figure began to take shape, a notification popped up on Ashen's status window, proclaiming, "Congratulations! You have successfully summoned your first summon. As the summoner, you have the privilege of selecting your first summon's job type. Furthermore, we are bestowing upon you a three-star summon."

Near the notification, the "i" tab shone brightly. Upon opening it, Ashen received a message from the system: "You can check and select your summons on the right-hand corner of your field of vision."

After reading the message, Ashen closed the system window and noticed a small, black-coloured, transparent symbol of a knight's helmet. With a quick, millisecond-long concentration, the symbol opened up, revealing words written on it. It appeared just big enough for Ashen to see them on the right-hand corner of his vision, like a tiny beacon of information guiding him towards his goal.

As he peered into the tab, two names caught his attention: Dominic and Rahil. The latter seemed like it could be the name of his first summon. His curiosity piqued, he clicked on Dominic's tab, and as he scanned the information, he felt like he was unravelling the mystery of a complex puzzle.

He was surprised to see the tab and couldn't believe that he was now the master of someone with such a distinguished background.

As he scrolled through the tab, his eyes fell upon the name Rahil, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement as he realized it must be the name of his first summon. It was as if he had stumbled upon a hidden treasure, and he eagerly clicked on Rahil's tab to learn more.

When Ashen clicked on the job section, he noticed a small arrow that led to a list of various job types. However, he already had a specific job in mind for Rahil from the very beginning: the Guardian of the Palace. This job would ensure the safety of the palace and its inhabitants when Ashen was not around to give orders.

Ashen considered other job options such as a scout, but he realized that it might be too dangerous since Ethan had warned him about the existence of sea serpents that lived in groups and posed a greater threat. Sending a scout to explore the area might put the scout's life at risk and result in their demise.

And also, for next week, he can summon a scout when the guard is around, and the scout might be safe. However, instead of the scout, he chooses a guardian.

After checking the stats, Ashen turned towards the new guardian of the palace and asked in a soft tone, "Can you understand the language I am speaking?"

Rahil looked up, bowed a little, and replied, "Yes, my lord. As soon as I came to this place, I was able to understand the language you spoke."

Ashen suddenly realized that he didn't know the name of the language he was speaking, even though he had been here and speaking for half a day. It was as if he had been swimming in a vast ocean, unaware of the depth and breadth of its secrets.

Ashen looked at Dominic with a puzzled and curious expression and asked, "Dominic, what is the name of the language we are speaking?" feeling a bit embarrassed about not knowing the name of the language.

Dominic turned towards Ashen and replied, "Valtirian is the native language of this planet." His voice was smooth, like silk, and his words were like drops of honey.

Ashen nodded slowly, understanding the situation better now. He instructed Dominic to show Rahil the palace and assign him tasks according to his role. He also asked Dominic to introduce Rahil to everyone once they returned.

Dominic listened carefully and then bowed gracefully before making his way towards Rahil. As they walked through the palace, Dominic pointed out various details and explained the history and significance of each one. It was like a master painter guiding a student through a masterpiece.

As Ashen made his way towards the throne room, his mind was consumed with a sense of determination, like a captain of a ship charting a course through treacherous waters. As he sat on the throne, his thoughts swirled like a turbulent sea, each wave crashing against the shore of his mind.

As the others went about their tasks, Ashen sat alone, contemplating the challenges that lay ahead. He was acutely aware of his responsibilities, like a lone lighthouse keeper on a stormy night, tasked with guiding ships safely to shore. The weight of his duty bore down on him like the endless expanse of the ocean, yet he remained resolute in his mission.

The once-grand throne room, now in ruins, stood as a testament to the past glories of the kingdom. But Ashen was not lost in nostalgia. His focus was on the future, like a sculptor chiselling away at a block of marble, creating something new and beautiful from the rough stone.

The broken throne room was once again silent, except for the relentless crashing of waves outside. Inhaling deeply, Ashen breathed in the salty air, allowing it to fill his lungs like a soothing balm.

As he gazed out at the water, its rhythmic movements reminded him of the ebb and flow of life. Life, like the ocean, was full of unexpected twists and turns, and he needed to navigate through them with the same fluidity and grace as the water before him.

But for Ashen, the ocean also represented a refuge from the loneliness of his real world. Just as the vast expanse of the sea seemed to go on forever, so too did his isolation. It was only here, in this fantastical world, that he felt truly alive and connected.

As he took on the role of leader, he felt the weight of responsibility settling onto his shoulders, much like the weight of the ocean pressing down on him. But he knew that he could not falter, for the safety and survival of his people were at stake.

With every step he took towards the door, he felt a sense of purpose and determination filling him up, like a ship ready to set sail on a grand adventure. He knew that the challenges ahead would be daunting, but he was ready to face them head-on, just like a sailor braving the tumultuous waves of the open sea.

As Ashen sat regally on his throne, contemplating the future of his underwater kingdom, he suddenly realized he had forgotten to inquire about a crucial matter. How did the mermaids and sea dragons prepare their food in the depths of the ocean? Did they feast on raw meat, risking illness and disease?

With caution in mind, he resolved to seek the answers from them when they returned from their duties, like a wise king who carefully considers the well-being of his subjects.

As the minutes ticked by, he watched the shimmering currents sway back and forth like a pendulum, lost in thought about the new challenges and opportunities that awaited him in this underwater realm.
