Chapter 7: CHAPTER 7: SWORDSMANSHIP TRAINING

It's been a week since the day at the cathedral, and I've been experiencing a living hell for a week now, and that's because my mother, who I think is like an angel, turns into a devil when teaching about swordsmanship.

"Will, is that all you've got?" Shouted by my mother after I fall because of her strike, it's happened how many times now since morning and now it's afternoon.

"I'm not even using a sword skill right now, so I think you might have a chance," she added.

Lily the sword saint—that is the title of my mother on the battlefield—has already reached the saint rank in terms of swordsmanship. The ranking is like this, from weakest to strongest: beginner, intermediate, advance, saint, king, emperor. My mother, who I thought was an angel, was this strong.

"Mother when will you teach me sword skill?"

I asked because I'm so fed up with this mock battle for a whole week in which I haven't gotten any wins at all.

"I understand." "I will give you a handicap." "I will fight you while my eyes are covered and use only my left hand. "If you win, I'll teach you the beginner swordsmanship skill."

She declared proudly, as if she were sure that she could win even with that handicap.

Not in the least do I think that she's underestimating me. I know that she needs to go to such lengths just to be on par with my strength in swordsmanship, but I don't want to win with such a handicap; I won't be able to accept it, so I propose an idea.

"Mother, how about you?" "The only handicap is not using your skill versus me; who can use my magic spell?" I asked

Knowing her, she will accept it without a doubt. Now what I need to think about is how to win.

"Fine, I'll accept it on one condition: you must get a win in only one week, and you can only battle me once a day," she said.

So I only have seven chances, but it is better than nothing.

"I accept," I replied.

"Then the first battle must start now." "Ready yourself within five minutes," she said.

"Right now?"               I asked as if I couldn't believe what she just said.

"Yes."          "Right now, do you have a problem?"  She asked with intimidating eyes.

"No, I don't have," I replied, scared at her eyes.

"Now, take your stance." "When this coin that I will toss falls to the ground, it marks the start of the battle," she said, then tossed the coin at the center of our battlefield.

When the coin landed, she started closing the distance. That is the best way to fight a magician, but I also know how to counter it.

"Water shield" I shout and a wall of water that as tall as her appeared in front of her.

Because I've always practiced it, I get the gist of how to create these beginner spells without enchanting. My father can cast all of the intermediate spells for water, wind, and ice without enchanting.

But of course my mother didn't fall for it and stepped backwards before she hit the water shield. The water shield is a spell that makes a wall of water that is as hard as rock and can make them drown if they try to force their way. Its only weakness is that its range is only one meter. So of course my mother will attack at my side.

As I was thinking, my mother ran towards me from my left, and I was forced to cast a water wall again. As if she knew it was coming, she changed her direction and went for my back.

"I am prepared for that," I mumbled, then jumped inside the water wall, making it collapse.

"Water arrow," I shouted, and three arrows of water formed from the water shield that just collapsed and were heading towards her. She can't dodge it because of her momentum.

"I win," I said while smiling, then suddenly—

"Eh?"                I was on the ground with the tip of a wooden sword pointing at my face.

"I lost," I declared.

"Uhm, tomorrow at the same time," she said before she switched personalities.

"Will, what do you want for dinner?"   She asked me as if she didn't have any idea what happened before this.

"Anything is fine," I answered.

"Okay, then I will decide what's for dinner tonight," she said cheerfully before going inside the house.

I was alone now in the backyard.

"What was that just now?" "  I can't see what happened at all. All I can remember is that the arrow that was supposed to hit her vanished, and suddenly I was on the ground with her sword pointing at my face.

"What did she just do?" I asked myself, knowing that I didn't have the answer.

"I will not win against her if I don't know what she just did," I mumbled to myself before heading inside the house.
