Chapter 5: Chapter 5 The Librarian

"Do you know a place i could get a large amount of supplies consistently?"

----------------------------------------------

It was important task to Kypher for 2 reason. Reason 1: Since he was alive, he required food, to continue his subscription to life, therefore required supplies. Reason 2: A place which would consistently sell supplies meant that he would not have to look around for food.

"Depending on how much an' how often ya want the supplies, I could help ya out." The innkeeper stated with curiosity. It was uncommon for a child to be here in the desert. And even more unusual for the child to stay here for long.

"Is it possible once a month?" I asked hoping it was the case. It was save me a lot of trouble if she could do so.

"A month's supplies, once a month?" She asked to make sure she didn't mishear.

Kypher just nodded.

"It will take a bit of effort, but it is doable. However its gonna cost ya." she said after a minute of consideration. Her price was a bit high, but Kypher did not care that much. He did some simple calculations and figured out he had enough Earth Kingdom yuan to last for 4 years with a bit left to spare.

"Deal. I'll pay when I come to get it. For now, how long is it gonna take for the first shipment?" He agreed to the deal, almost immediately. Although he was planning to go immediately to the secret library he decided against it. He needed the supplies. Otherwise he would starve a few days inside. And Kypher knew, that there was no way in hell he would choose to starve, when the other option was to wait a few days.

"For the larger shipment like that? I'll need a week or 2 at least." She glanced at my bitter expression and smirked. "If ya in a hurry, I could get you something by today. It will last ya about one an' a half weeks..." And just like that, my expression brightened right back up.

"Great! I'll have it tomorrow morning then. Now, I need sleep. I am exhausted."He started walking towards the stairs to the 2nd floor. Unexpectedly, he turned around and said" Have a good night. " Then turned back and continued up the stairs.

The innkeeper shook her head, and as a smile formed on her aged face she called out:" 'Night, cub."

--------------------------------------------

The Next Day

By the time the innkeeper opened up her inn, Kypher was already downstairs fully prepared for an expedition. The innkeeper just shook her head and brought the sack up to the counter.

After paying for the supplies, he told her he'll be back in 2 weeks. Then turned round and left the building. He went to the stable to say goodbye to his ostrich horse. He couldn't bring him with him inside, so he just asked the kind old woman to take care of him for her, for a price of course.

He fixed his sword sheath on his back. The ribbon revealed to him that Wa Shin Tong's library was quite a distance away. And so, he started heading towards his first checkpoint.

---------------------------------------------------

Getting to the library was kind of anti-climactic, for Kypher. Although he had a GPS on his hand, he still expected to at least have a cool fight, or a nice adventure, on his way there.

What it turned out, however, was a boring 2 hour run to reach it. Funnily enough it seemed that he had forgotten that the library was mostly buried in the first place. Only a small tower was left visible.

Well luckily for Kypher, he was an air bender. It would have been a pain in the arse to dig to an entrance. So after making sure he's got everything with him, he launched himself in the air with a air jump, something he learnt on his way here, attached himself to the windows ledge and slipped inside.

It took Kypher a few seconds to get down to the ground, or floor. The library itself was beautifully carved and delicately made. The mosaics were exquisite and carefully arranged, in a form of a large owl, most probably Wa Shin Tong. The library also seemed to be quite vast, as he looked down from the side the bridge, he couldn't see the lowest floor.

As soon as Kypher heard footsteps behind him, he knew that he was about to meet the guardian of this place. Yet he still continued looking over the edge.

"You shouldn't be here, human. Leave." said the large, 3 meter tall owl.

"Wa Shin Tong, the guardian of the secret library, he who knows 10 thousand things," Kypher said and turned around. "My name is Kypher Feng. It is a pleasure to meet you." He said while bowing his head lightly. The guardian had earned his respect, from creating an amazing library, or choosing to go into hiding to prevent any more conflicts because of humans, the guardian had truly earned his respect.

"If you know this, then you must be aware than human's are not welcome in my study. Humans truly bother learning things to get an edge over other humans. You must have come for the same reason." The guarding was truly wise being, and Kypher truly had not intention to lie to it.

"Yes, but what I am doing is learning to protect myself, and the others I care for." He replied with an honest tone, while staring deep into the large owl eyes to prove he is not lying. Truthfully, Kypher was not lying when he said this. His goal is not to k

exterminate or take over the nations. His goal learn to protect the people he cares for with that knowledge. "All creatures have such a goal. Birds protect their chicks. Mothers protect their children . Even you, a spirit, wishes to protect your library and its inhabitants. So you should know what I am talking about."

Wa Shin Tong just stared back in silence, trying to find any hint of lying. Yet it could not. The human seemed to understand right and wrong. And the owl truly understood what it means to wish to protect. It had built this library from scratch, collected thousands upon thousands of books, scrolls, tomes, and it would do anything to keep its study safe from harm.

After a long silence that seemed to last quite a while, the owl responded.

"Hmmm. Very well. I will allow you to browse through my vast collection. But on one condition. To prove your worthiness as a scholar, you have to contribute some worth while knowledge. As a knowledgeable scholar, you must have brought something." It stated with a blank face. Kypher's eye brow started to twitch. It seemed that the owl had some sense of humour after all.

"How about we make this more worthwhile for both of us." Kypher proposed, already having planned something.

"How?" Kypher was sure that the owl was teasing him. He just felt in his gut.

"You will help me navigate this sanctuary of yours , while I will temporarily contribute the most valuable thing I own...

Myself..."

Hello Everybody!!

This chapter was very entertaining to write. I have many plans for the scholar owl, as well as ideas for later on, so you can expect a decent friendship between the 2 characters.
