Chapter 11: Chapter 11 - Divine Sword Mountain Sect

Grand Elder Jia Feng, Yu Weiyuan and Song Hui flew through the skies of the Profound Heaven Sect, their bodies turning into streaks of light as they teared through the air.

Yu Weiyuan glanced at Song Hui mid-flight, asking him: "How much did building the Heaven Severing Formation cost?"

"Tch... Elder Xia of the Resource Hall gave me an hearing about it..." Song Hui snorted, letting out his complaints. "But he is right. The cost of laying a Sky-Grade Formation is heavy in high-grade treasures."

Grand Elder Jia Feng sighed in fatigue. "I suppose we will have to tighten the budget dedicated to the Core Disciples again."

"The death of Sect Master had already put a dent in our businesses..." The Grand Elder didn't continue and only shook his head.

Yu Weiyuan was lost in thought as he pondered the aftermath of the recent events. 'This operation was not profitable if we're examining it strictly from the viewpoint of finances.'

'But it remains a resounding success.'

'The Myriad Demon Temple was severely weakened in exchange for only a dozen heavenly treasures.'

'Now, only three Divine Transformation Elders remain in their headquarters.'

'But we can't be hasty.' He thought calmly. 'The Myriad Demon Temple still has their Grand Formation and probably a few artefacts left by their Ancestors.'

'Meaning the sect has to prepare accordingly.'

Yu Weiyuan's Killing Intent that had overwhelmed his mind after his Master's death was washed over after he untied his heart knot as he completed the first step of his vengeance, leaving him at least a little happier, freed from violent thoughts and surges of anger.

The young Sect Master let out a carefree smile, surprising the Elders flying next to him. 'It would be nice if you could see me now, Master.'

Suddenly, the three cultivators felt two auras flying towards them in the distance.

Grand Elder Jia Feng, being the first to sense their presence, reacted on the spot. "Two cultivators ahead."

"One is at the Middle Stage of the Nascent Soul Realm." He paused, his face grave. "The cultivation base of the other is equal to mine."

Song Hui narrowed his eyes as he too felt the two approaching cultivators. "Their auras are sharp, akin to peerless swords. It feels as if my Divine Sense is being cut just by coming in contact with them..."

"Divine Sword Mountain Sect?" Yu Weiyuan asked with a grumble as two silhouettes slowly taking form in the distance. "What do these inflexible sword pricks want from me?"

In the Five Saints Realm, each of the five continents is divided in eighteen domains.

The Profound Heaven Sect is located in the Crouching Dragon Domain, sharing its territory with five other sects, one of them being the Divine Sword Mountain Sect.

They are a sect of sword cultivators, taking pride in its use, holding the unshakable belief that the sword is the most noble of weapons, a symbol of righteousness and honor. The sect disciples are taught to resemble a sword in both character and demeanor, to live and die by the sword.

'I think they are just idiots though.' Thought Yu Weiyuan. 'What a pain their disciples are... Their holier than thou attitude is extremely infuriating, sometimes triggering brawls, especially with the disciples of other sects who couldn't bear with their behaviour.'

The young sect master could finally distinguish the two people in the distance.

One was an slender and handsome middle-aged man with chiselled features and a sharp gaze, his posture straight like a divine sword. His black hair was tied into a bun. He wore sky-blue inner robes and golden outer robes. A majestic sword was sheathed in a white scabbard he held in his right hand.

'Sect Master Jian Cheng? What did he come here for?'

The other was a man looking to be in his early twenties, looking very similar to Jian Cheng. He looked to be the younger version of him, only that his outer robes were black instead of golden. He too held a sheathed sword in his right hand.

'And his son, the Head Disciple of the Divine Sword Mountain Sect, Jian Qi... He should be fifty years old this year...'

Yu Weiyuan and the others halted their flight while the two father and son did the same.

The silence was heavy between the two parties as they only gazed at each other.

At least until Yu Weiyuan broke the tension: "So?"

"To what do we owe your presence in our territory, Sect Master Jian?" He asked with a raised brow, his golden eyes shining with suspicion.

The older man only glanced at him, his temperament aloof, before answering. "We came to find you, Sect Master Yu."

"For?" He answered dismissively.

"Your Master having entered Samsara," Jian Cheng began, staying aloof. "I found myself forced to give the younger generation the responsability to resolve the older generation's grievances."

"Hence, I want Sect Master Yu to duel my son Jian Qi in order to wash away the dishonor of my Divine Sword Mountain Sect."

"Ooh?" Playfulness flashed in Yu Weiyuan's eyes as he continued smilingly. "Are you talking about Master taking the Sword King title from the hands of your sect who had kept it for milleniums?"

The young Sect Master was full of amusement as he finally saw Jian Cheng's aloofness disappear as his face broke into a grimace of unpleasantness.

"After all, only the strongest sword cultivator of an entire domain can hold the title of Sword King."

Both Jian Cheng and Jian Qi had displeasure written all over their faces. This matter was nearly their reverse scale: how could a sect of sword cultivators hold their face outside if the strongest sword cultivator didn't even come from their disciples?

The Divine Sword Mountain Sect had lost their face and the death of their nemesis Lu Yingjie didn't change that, at least for them. The upper echelons of the Divine Sword Mountain Sect didn't rejoice when the news of Lu Yingjie's death reached them, on the contrary: they felt as if they couldn't wash away the shame. Consequently, they came up with the idea of resolving the grievance through the younger generation.

And fortunately, Yu Weiyuan, the disciple of Lu Yingjie, had reached the Nascent Soul Realm, the same realm as their Head Disciple, making a battle between the two justifiable.

Sect Master Jian Cheng restrained his irritation as he said: "I am not here to discuss the past with you, Sect Master Yu."

"Will you honor your Master and fight in his name?"

Yu Weiyuan looked at the father and son. Instead of the usual aloofness or displeasure the disciples of the Divine Sword Mountain Sect always bore on their faces, both of them looked determined and unwavering.

'Perhaps they're not so bad after all.' He thought, shaking his head in refusal.

"WHAT?!!!" Jian Qi, who had remained silent until now, exclaimed in indignation. "Are you escaping from the fight?!"

"No." Yu Weiyuan shook his head once again. "It is not appropriate for me to take Master's place for this matter."

Jian Qi scowled, his disbelief clear in his eyes. "Not appropriate? You are his disciple!!"

"I am." Yu Weiyuan responded, his tone soft.

"So what then?!!"

"I am the successor of Master as a Sect Master," Yu Weiyuan smiled slightly. "But I am not the heir to his legacy as a sword cultivator."

"I did not accept the duel only because I somewhat respect your sincere devotion to the sword."

"You won't be satisfied even if you somehow happened to win against me."

Hearing the reason, Jian Qi's expression softened. "So what will happen to our grievances?"

While his son lamented, Jian Cheng was more experienced, recognizing immediately the important keyword.

He directly asked. "If you aren't qualified to take your Master's place, does it mean there is, as you said, an heir to his legacy who is?"

Hearing the question, Yu Weiyuan smiled sincerely. "Yes. But she is not ready."

"Let her compete with your son for the title of Sword King of this generation."

"Only in this way will you be able to wash away your shame."

Both the father and son's eyes brightened. They cupped their hands as a sign of respect before taking off in the direction of their sect.

Once they went beyond the horizon, Grand Elder Jia Feng smiled. "You handled this matter smoothly, Sect Master."

"But the responsability you gave to your Senior Sister is quite heavy." Song Hui continued. "Aren't you afraid of pressuring her too much, Sect Master?"

They also took off, flying through skies, the airflow making waves that trailed behind them.

Yu Weiyuan only answered then, smiling heartily. "Senior Sister won't crumble under such an easy challenge."

Hearing his Sect Master, Song Hui seemed hesitant. "If it was back then, I would have agreed, but you know she was deeply affected by your Master's death."

A sorrowful sigh escaped Yu Weiyuan's mouth. "I will make time to talk to her after managing the Sect's affairs."

Once he said this, the group remained silent for the rest of the trip.

When they finally reached the Sky Reaching Mountains, Yu Weiyuan couldn't help but announcing his return:

"I'm home!"
