Chapter 53: One more discovery

Egan's POV:

'*Islanzadí, you are getting really annoying! I'm not going to repeat myself ten times! The egg tried to bond with Eldar but it's not the one for him, if I hadn't attacked it quickly to force it away it would have hatched the little female. I don't want to share my partner especially when he is chosen as a substitute! I would have been enraged if another dragon had stolen my mate so I wouldn't have to wait any longer for his. Plus you all hope the little female's partner goes to war. You would never have left Eldar alone if he had also become the partner of the little female, and I wish neither to attack you nor to exile me!

Either way, your gathering is pointless because the person for her doesn't exist yet, so she hasn't been born yet. Other than Eldar I doubt anyone could hatch her without being her true partner.

Before you start again! Yes ! I'm sure of it and no I can't really explain it, it's instinctive! You already asked me to transmit my feelings to Glaedr and he confirmed my statements. What more do you need? If you want to go around the continent with this egg in search of a partner that does not exist, then do what you want but you will only put her in danger unnecessarily!

Finally and for the last time, stop scolding me for the state I put Eldar in! He's much stronger than you bipeds! I guarantee you that he put himself in much worse states than that without the possibility of being able to heal himself as you do and he never complained about it and always recovered completely.

If I didn't have access to his mind to verify that he doesn't like inflicting pain on himself, I'd swear he's a masochist! The wounds I inflicted on him are nothing! This jerk has a habit of finding workouts ever more absurdly difficult and dangerous.

He trained to survive without magic against a pack of wolves all bigger than him. He trained himself to suffer the mental attacks of weird birds while having to do other tasks to increase the difficulty. I can't count the number of times I had to watch his body or intervene when he was at his wit's end to keep him safe.

I would have enough for the day if I had to list all the training he invented where he has to risk his life! He even practiced an exercise where he had to be eaten alive by disgusting light yellow larvae the size of his fingers that inflict excruciating pain in an attempt to be able to use his magic or mentally defend himself while being tortured. by these horrors!

The state I put it in is not worth mentioning. He is simply very angry that I attacked him without warning, especially since I was the one who asked him to approach the egg. I felt the ersatz bond forming between them and I wanted to be sure it wasn't just an impression. He was attacked insidiously and really didn't like it. However I had no choice but to react quickly to remove him from the egg, the little female was bonding with him.* '

The little princess opens her mouth to ask me a question that makes me growl in frustration. I'll end up killing one if they keep making me repeat over and over again. I'd rather leave and join Eldar before doing something I'll regret later.

Glaedr's POV:

Brom sneers and says to the queen "What did you say again? Ah yes… He is social, pleasant and jovial, right? »

Brom enjoys the moment a little too much, he's gloated to see Eldar shot and takes a little too much pleasure in mocking Egan. I have to intervene...

'Stop being child Brom, Egan has just attacked his partner, provoked his anger and publicly humiliated him, obviously he's not in a good mood! In addition, you have been asking him questions for hours on end based on why? how ? And are you sure of yourself?'

Oromis scratched his throat and spoke: "If we accept that Egan told the truth since Glaedr seems to validate his words. How could he have felt that kind of thing? And how can two dragons choose the same partner? »

Glaedr sighed… 'How many times do we have to tell you, royal ancestry is not just a matter of blood and title. All dragons know that our kings are generally gifted with other unpredictable skills and are generally stronger and taller than the rest of us. Their instincts are sharper, their magic is triggered more easily. What happened is not that strange. He's a dragon prince, that should be enough to answer your question about his abilities.

As for Eldar who would have hatched the second egg, we know that he has a…let's say special status. He's unique and according to Egan, the right egg mate hasn't been born yet so she may have been drawn to his out-of-the-ordinary potential.'

Brom shook his head... "The egg must not hatch for Eldar!" Apart from the fact that we don't know the problems it could cause to bond with two dragons, he does not wish to help us in this war. If he becomes the partner of the only egg in our possession, it would be a disaster. »

Surprisingly, everyone seems to agree with him.

Fäolin intervened and said, "Can we know what kind of special status we are talking about? Eldar is certainly a prince but what makes him special enough that you so easily accept the fact that he is able to be chosen by two dragons? »

Oromis replied that he is not fit to hold such information.

Fäolin smiled and answered: "As you wish Oromis, however me and my companion do not have any secrecy therefore this precaution is not necessary, you do not need to hide this information. »

Ouch... Who is this jerk?

The queen raised an eyebrow and looked Arya straight in the eyes. "Is that real Arya?" Has your trip as an ambassador made you lose the ability to be discreet and the importance of knowing how to keep information secret? »

Arya glared at her mate and replied, "He's my mate and I share a lot with him but if it requires I can assure you that I'm still perfectly adept at keeping knowledge and not passing any information on to anyone." whatever. »

The queen nodded and replied, "Good! However, the information we are talking about is far too dangerous to take any risks and I would not entrust such information to just anyone Fäolin. You are clearly not qualified to become the guardian of such knowledge. Since you seem to have a little too much influence on my daughter, I would ask you both to please leave the room. »

The displeasure of the princess was printed on her face but she recovered quickly and bowed before leaving the room followed by her companion.

Brom scratched his throat and said "What is this status?" »

The queen replied instantly, "Do you also wish to leave this Brom room?" »

Brom got offended immediately but pursed his lips…

Oromis then added to calm him down, "I agree with Queen Brom, it's not a matter of trust but of security. The less people know, the better...

Now that we are among ourselves, there is another matter that we must discuss and we will need you, my queen. »

We all have a serious expression because the four of us know what he's talking about.

The queen nods and contacts Egan.

When she suddenly pales, we all understand the answer…

Oromis and Brom turned pale in turn and Oromis exclaimed, "Burrow larvae!" This madman mutilated himself with burrow larvae! For a simple workout! »

Brom mutters in amazement: "They grew up in Vroengard? The island is supposed to be unlivable. »

The queen explains to us that Egan claims not to know any places called Vroengard and says that there are larvae everywhere.

What he doesn't know is that these larvae only exist on Vroengard, they mutated because of all the magical battles that took place there between the dragon riders.

' You absolutely must keep this information secret, it is extremely important. I am not joking ! Don't tell Eldar and Egan that you know either, I don't want them to shut up any more.'

Everyone nods and we alternately vow never to betray this secret.

Oromis speaks after our vows have been sealed: "If Eldar grew up in Vroengard then that gives us a lot of disturbing information. First of all he is the son of a dragon rider which makes me even more puzzled by his dislike of our order but it allows us to know who his father is...

There has been no king or queen and only one dragon rider prince and princess in the history of our caste because no dragon rider of royal blood can remain affiliated with a kingdom. Having a dragon rider linked to both our caste and a royal family brings too many problems.

Only our founder was the exception. So Eldar can only be the son of Eragon ! However, it is not mentioned anywhere that he had a child…

Moreover, if they were able to grow on the island, it is because it is at least partly liveable, whereas we were all sure of the opposite.

It is impossible that we ignore that a personality like Eragon had a child… We thought we had understood the secrets that Eldar hides but it seems that we were mistaken. »

The queen seems really upset by this revelation.

"Eragon is a legend! Eldar would be his son? Once I mentioned Eragon's name in front of him and for a moment I saw a moment of anger in reaction. It seemed strange to me but how could I have imagined that???

Oromis, Glaedr, you wanted to know why Eldar is always on the defensive near the dragon riders and why he always seemed hostile to you, you have your answer. I don't know why, but Eldar hates his father..."
