Chapter 3: 3 - What a strange world
Suddenly he raised his sword again and backed away a few steps wobbling on his tired feet.
"Vampire! You want my blood!?" he accused.
"Ah, well yes but no" I put my hands up, trying to use the humans signal for surrender "i can just eat the blood from a corpse" i say gesturing to the Orcs "I didn't want to eat right away since you might attack me" i explain. He doesn't lower his sword as he thinks. 'Come on man, i'm dying over here' i groan mentally again reminded of my hunger by loud stomach growls. I had time before making a link but i got transported here at a horrible time, i needed to eat. The man lowered his sword ever so slightly, seemingly convinced i was telling the truth by my incessant stomach growls
"Alright, go ahead" he says flicking his sword in the direction of the orc corpses
I stood wobbly and half stumbled over to the freshest of the bodies. I lifted it to my mouth and sunk my fangs into a still bleeding wound, i sucked greedily hoping to get the most value out of the corpse. After a few minutes the blood stopped flowing so i moved my mouth away from the corpse and retracted my fangs wiping at the corners of my mouth, trying to clean the blood from my face. I could eat the coagulated blood if i tore into the flesh but the taste was undesirable and the process was too messy, it wouldn't bode well if i did that while trying to appear friendly.
"Much better" I say looking over at the human. He still held his sword towards me defensively.
"Alright i can explain now, the situation isn't as urgent" I say
"Then talk" he demands. 'he seems to be the very direct sort' i think amused.
"I'm a traveler, i travel worlds and realms. Similar to a game, when i get to a new world i have missions to complete. My current mission is to form a 'link'. A link is similar to a contract of subordination, me being the subordinate. I do have a time limit to form a 'link', if i fail i get penalized, so i'd appreciate if you 'link' with me" I say. I've said this almost exact sentence so many times i had it practically memorized.
"A contract?" He asks suspiciously
"Yes, one where i will be the subordinate, you'll get to choose the specifics, but basically you will be the one ordering me around"
"Why would you even want that?" he scoffs not lowering his sword
"My wants on this are irrelevant, i have to complete my missions" i reply with a shrug.
"How do i know you aren't bullshitting me? You even admitted to being a demon, aren't you just tricking me? I bet your contract is the opposite of what you claim" he says still holding his sword defensively.
"If that was the case, wouldn't i just force it on you?" I suggest "So far, i would say i've been rather considerate" I add thinking about my actions. He thinks about it for a minute and lowers his sword slightly. Technically i could actually forcefully start the process to form the link but it has to be accepted by both parties to actually succeed in linking.
"What do you need to do for us to link?" he asks.
"I just need to bite you so i can link my system with you" I reply. Immediately his sword re-positioned in defense. "Hey, relax a little, i ate just now so it won't be that dangerous" I say laughing a little.
"My system is similar to the menus in video games, when i bite you i can request to link with you, but you have to accept it for us to successfully link, so you can still back out" i explain "Additionally you can read the terms of the linking before accepting" I add.
"You have a system?" He asks surprised
"Yes, i know it sounds a bit strange but it's true, you'll see if you let me start the process" i persuade
"No i believe you, i also have a system. Since i'm a player" he says. I was taken aback
"You have a system?" I ask bewildered. I've never been to a world with systems.
"Yes, i just said that. You don't know what a player is?" He asks raising an eyebrow
"It's my first time in a world like this" I say. He thinks about it for a minute
"Do you think your system will interfere with mine?"
"I'm not sure, but since 'link' is used to integrate my system to the master, i would assume if you have a system it would simultaneously integrate your system to mine".
He thinks about it for a minute
"How long until your mission time limit is up?" he asks
"One hour"
"What happens if you don't link in that hour?"
"I'll be forced to go on a rampage and then i'll be unable to morph into other races to coexist peacefully" I say. Even though killing didn't cause me to feel guilt or those sorts of emotions, the act of massacring everything within sight causes a lot of issues with the locals, pair that with my appearance and you've got a permanent witch hunt for the next century. It's happened before, many times in fact, i even got hunted to the point i got forcibly sealed out of an entire reality once. i chuckle inwardly at the memory.
"If you don't want to, do you at least know any other nearby humans? ah, it doesn't have to be a human, as long as it's an intelligent race" I ask
"outside of the dungeon there's lots of people" He says taking a seat. He was still exhausted from the earlier fight.
"I don't know what exactly a dungeon is" i say, prompting an explanation.
"Right. It's like a pocket dimension where monsters and places not from earth appear. Players generally enter dungeons to increase their level by gaining xp, but also the item drops and materials that are found can be worth a lot, use wise and moneywise. Dungeons can be cleared by completing the 'dungeon mission' but it's not really necessary. If the dungeon isn't cleared within the given time limit, then the dungeon resets and different monsters appear in the dungeons, so it's really not a big deal".
'so this isn't earth but a dungeon?' i think glad i had decided to link with the human since my mission specifically said my 'link' had to be an entity from earth
"How about I help you with your dungeon conquest then?" i suggest "If you 'link' with me, you can order me to help you with whatever you want" i persuade.
