Chapter 13: Not a lady

[Twenty minutes later]

After driving for twenty minutes, Desmond managed to lose the black SUV that was following them.

He then took Elsa to his penthouse which was not too far away from where they were.

"Did we lose them?"

"Yes, we did," he answered before taking a U-turn.

"Where are we going?" Elsa frowned. This wasn't the way to her home and she was sure it wasn't the way to the Fedorov mansion as well.

"We will be staying at my penthouse for the night." They couldn't go back until Greg and his men gave him a green signal. He had to make sure it was safe before taking her back.

When Elsa did not say anything, Desmond explained, "They could be hiding somewhere, going back isn't safe. We have to wait for Greg and your brother to check everything out first."

He waited for her to say something. He expected her to ask him questions, demand him to take her home but she didn't say a word. This was quite unlikely of her.

This made him wonder if something was wrong with her.

Was she still upset with him?

"Say something," he demanded. He didn't like how silent she was.

"What do you want me to say?" Elsa looked at him. "Will you take me home if I ask you to?"

"No."

"Well, then what choice do I have?" She scoffed. She didn't have the energy to argue with him anymore.

Was she okay with spending the night at his place? No.

Was she willing to fight over it? No.

She knew it was useless and that she would end up draining herself in the process. And she wasn't ready for it.

Desmond did not say anything further. He quietly drove towards the penthouse.

...

[The Penthouse]

When they entered the compound, a guard greeted them at the gate.

"I will be here for tonight." Desmond instructed them. "Stay alert."

"Yes boss." The man glanced at Elsa and then back at Desmond. "Should I arrange for some change of clothes for the lady?"

The guards' statement made Elsa frown. She looked at him and then back at Desmond.

Why would a guard suggest such a thing? How many women had Demond brought over in this place to spend the night?

"There's no need for that." Desmond glared at the guard. "She is not just a lady, she is your madam."

The guard quickly greeted Elsa. "Good evening, madam. I didn't mean to—"

Desmond cut him off. "Alert the security for the night. I don't want any mistakes." He then rolled the window up and drove inside.

…..

[Inside the elevator]

When Desmond and Elsa entered the elevator, they stood at opposite corners like strangers. They didn't even look at each other let alone share a conversation.

He glanced at Elsa who seemed to be lost in her own world. He wanted to know what she was thinking about but there was no way he could find out until she told him.

Just then the elevator opened on the 9th floor and a group of men stepped in.

Elsa squeezed herself in a corner to make room for the group of people but before they could surround her, a hand grabbed her waist and pulled her forward.

Desmond tightened his grip around her waist and moved her towards the wall of the elevator while he stood in between her and the crowd.

Elsa, who did not expect him to make such a move was completely taken aback. She looked at him but immediately averted her gaze when their eyes met.

When the group of men got down on the eleventh floor, she expected him to let her go but he kept holding her waist.

"This building is never so crowded, I think one of the residents is hosting a party."

Elsa tried to step away from him but he tightened his grip around her waist. "There is no one here now, you can let me go."

Desmond let go off her waist and took a step back. He pulled her closer as he was worried the crowd of strangers would make her feel uncomfortable. But he d

idn't realize that he was still holding her until she pointed it out.
