Chapter 12: Going to work together

In the morning, Alexander Sterling knocked on Cindy Richards's door. The latter was still asleep but the pounding on the door woke her up. She figured it was Alexander Sterling because only the two of them lived here. She walked out of the comfortable duvets while grunting, "It is still quite early for you to be knocking on my door like this!"

She opened the door with her eyes closed. Alexander Sterling stared at her and for a moment what he wanted to say was suddenly forgotten. Cindy Richards's hair was like a bird's nest and her pyjamas were twisted funnily. She was barefoot and this immediately made Alexander Sterling worried. He reprimanded softly, "It is cold, don't go around without socks or slippers."

Cindy Richards was still dreaming so she nodded absentmindedly. She then remembered that he was still here so she asked, "Did you need something from me?"

Alexander Sterling nodded, "I am going to the company and I need to take you with me, you will be starting as an intern today."

That effectively woke Cindy Richards up, "What? When you left yesterday I thought you did not want me there anymore!"

Alexander Sterling thought about yesterday and his uplifted mood suddenly fell once more. He coughed, "I went to make a call. I will wait for you to take a shower, let us go to work together after that."

Cindy Richards nodded and closed the door. She needed the job which meant that she had to follow whatever thing Alexander Sterling had planned.

The Fashion and Design department at The Richards Corporation was one of the best in the country. They designed clothes for many influential people and celebrities. Many people wanted their clothes to be designed by them but they could not take in orders as they wished.

The orders could even go for a year before finding space. Some celebrities had to book early so as to ensure they got a spot. The competition had to be tight and now that she was joining the team in the middle of the year when they were not accepting interns it was bound to raise eyebrows.

The people at the company did not have to know that she was Alexander Sterling's wife and at work, they had to keep utmost privacy.

She had a simple suit she had not had the chance to wear so she brought it out. The light blue was perfect for her first day of work and it also blended nicely with the simple makeup she had on.

She quickly prepared herself not forgetting to carry some of her important documents.

After she was done with everything, she walked out and found Alexander Sterling had already prepared some breakfast for the two of them. She was not a morning or breakfast person but she enjoyed the steaming hot tea with toast way too much.

Alexander Sterling watched her eat and smiled that small smile of his.

Alexander Sterling's assistant was already outside waiting for them. He greeted them politely and introduced himself as Daniel Owens. He was a tall and bulky man with a nicely trimmed beard and a friendly smile. After all the introductions, he then drove them to the company. Cindy Richards had to be dropped off near the company because coming out of the CEO's car would not be a very good idea.

Alexander Sterling gazed at her, "Take it easy today, I will see you later for lunch. Daniel Owens will bring you to my office."

Cindy Richards looked at him, "Won't coming to your office raise some suspicions? How about we meet outside instead?"

Alexander Sterling nodded, "Whatever you decide is fine with me. I will send you the name of the hotel later then."

Cindy Richards nodded and got off. She then walked towards the company in quick steps.

The Richards Corporation's building was very tall and had about fifty floors. Alexander Sterling's office was on the fiftieth floor. There were many departments under them and many companies had also been absolved by them.

They had businesses spanning all sectors of the industry including fashion, entertainment, electronics, hospitality and even healthcare. There was a big hospital downtown called Richards Hospital and it had one of the best healthcare services in the world.

Cindy Richards already knew about all of these so there wasn't much introduction needed. She had also been to The Richards Corporation once some years back. The design had not changed yet she felt that this place was awfully strange.

Alexander Sterling had given her directions so it was not hard finding the fashion and design department on the tenth floor. She opened the door and saw many people rushing out and about with many papers stacked on one side and fabrics on the other.

No one paid attention when she walked in but she quickly found the head of the design team, a fifty-year-old looking woman called Sharon Toll.

Cindy Richards greeted her politely, "Hello madam, my name is Cindy Richards and I was asked to come here today to start my internship."

She was very polite yet , Sharon Toll regarded her coldly, "Oh yes, the person recommended by the CEO's assistant. I wonder what you offered to be able to come here when we are not even accepting internships!"

There was an underlying meaning in her words that did not get past Cindy Richards. She only smiled a little and said nothing.

It seemed as though Sharon Toll did not recognize her. The Richards siblings were very famous and their pictures were often splattered everywhere for people to see but after Alexander Sterling and Carmen Richards's marriage, Cindy Richards had completely abandoned social media and not a single photo of hers had been taken since.

Since she was not active, the people also did not care much about her so she was inevitably forgotten. This was a good thing because it allowed her to remain anonymous.

Sharon Toll sighed and got up from her seat, "You already know why you are here so I will not bore you with all the meaningless introductions but I still have to lay some ground rules. All of the work needs to be submitted on time and I will not allow slacking off at work. We work with very famous people so their privacy matters. What you see or hear should not leave the constraints of this room, are we clear?"

Cindy Richards nodded.

Sharon Toll looked at her once more, "Oh! And another thing…"
