Chapter 12: Pink and Golden
Venera was stripped of her huge dress and placed in a soothing petal bath. She felt so sleepy that she dozed off in the middle of the process. Before she knew it, the maidservants had already cleaned her up and were patting off the droplets of water on her skin with soft, fluffy white towels.
"Brother," Venera called out when she walked out of the bathroom with Caius' large bathrobe. It was so large that she had to pull it up when she walked towards the man standing in the middle of the carpeted bedroom.
"Um," Caius responded.
Seeing the little girl having a hard time walking, Caius appeared in front of Venera in less than a second and then carried the little girl into his arms in the blink of an eye.
Venera only felt a slight wind blowing on her face, followed by a feeling of weightlessness, and then she was already in Caius' arms.
"Wow!" She cried enthusiastically. Her eyes sparkled; it seemed as if thousands of stars fell into her eyes. It also seemed as if all of the stars that were absent in the night sky of the vampire realm were pooled in her eyes. "Brother is awesome!"
Venera's sleepiness was instantly gone. She was revived by such excitement!
"Vera is also awesome," Caius replied with a smile.
To be able to not shed a tear when she saw him and so many other vampires, to be able to stay so strong after facing the unknown, is an awesome thing.
"Um, I am awesome," Vera said while nodding happily. She likes being praised.
Just when she was about to continue speaking, her stomach grumbled. Although it was just a low rumbling sound, Caius could easily catch it with his heightened senses.
Venera looked at Caius with no embarrassment and said, "Brother, I am hungry. When can I eat?"
"You can eat at any time," Caius said before glancing at the servants standing rigidly in his chambers.
Venera's eyes lit up at the mention of food, and she easily said a soft "thank you" to Caius with her adorable little voice.
"Prepare dishes that human children like to eat," Caius ordered frostily. "And bring me the scarlet berries and blood fruits."
"Yes."
The servants bowed and answered in unison.
With a wave of Caius' hand, all the servants filed out of the room to do as they were ordered.
"Scarlet berries?" asked Venera. "Blood fruits?"
Many question marks were hanging above Venera's head. She had never heard of those things before. But it sounded unique to her ears, and she wanted to try it too!
"Yes," Caius answered with a smile, and he carried the little girl in his arms and gently placed her little figure on his gigantic bed that could fit eight people. "You will see them later; be patient."
"Uh-huh," Venera immediately agreed. "I will be patient."
"Vera is such a good little girl." Caius patted her little head and sat down next to the little girl on the bed.
His arrangement for Venera was very thoughtful. For vampires, blood is indeed a delicacy, but if Caius did drink blood in such an enclosed space with a human child, he was quite worried that the little human girl would feel afraid or not be used to it.
Therefore, Caius asked for the vampires' alternative food sources: Scarlet Berry and Blood Fruit.
"Uh-huh, I am very good," Venera replied very quickly, and she hugged Caius' waist with her little arms. Naturally, she was not able to circle Caius' muscular and narrow waist with her short little arms successfully.
Venera's sudden large movement loosened the large bathrobe, and it accidentally slipped down her shoulder, revealing snow-white skin that tinged a little pink and golden under the candlelight in the humongous bedroom.
Caius' Adam's apple moved, and he felt parched.
He sits Venera down on top of him and leans in. Venera could feel his hot breath against her neck, and she reflexively shrank her neck and let out a little giggle. Long, lustrous black hair scattered down her shoulders, covering the smooth, exposed skin that was full of temptation in Caius' sight.
"Brother, it's ticklish!" Venera pouted and punched Caius' chest.
It felt as if a piece of cotton had hit Caius' chest. It does zero to no damage to him.
Crimson flashed past Caius' eyes before he took a deep breath and released the little human girl. He slipped an arm around Venera's waist and pulled her closer to him, resting her head on his chest, closing the distance between the two.
Caius let out a deep sigh, then rested his chin on the top of the little girl's head.
"Is this an apology?" asked Venera before continuing, "Well, I will reluctantly forgive Brother." She then rubbed her little head on Caius' chest, like a little kitten in need of spoiling.
"Um, Vera is the best," Caius answered back. His voice was low and hoarse, but at this time, Venera could not feel any difference since she was only thinking about the food that was to come to satisfy her hunger.
Venera did not realize just how much Caius' emotions had changed in such a short span of time, nor did she see the helpless expression on his face.
Caius raised a hand and ran it through Venera's inky, waterfall-like hair. It was very smooth to the touch, and not a drop of water from the bath was left. The maidservants did a good job in this part.
Even if Caius did stop himself from baring his fangs and prevented himself from trying to get a taste of Venera's blood, he still could not help himself from placing a hand on her warm neck.
He could feel the running blood and the soft pulsing of Venera's heart through her skin.
It was at this time that Caius heard several knocks on the door.
The food that Venera had been waiting for a long, long time has finally arrived.
