Chapter 35: The Arrival of the Chunin Exam
It had been a week since Yamame was added to the harem, Hisame finally arrived at his destination, the Land of Waves. The woman crossed the huge to meet Tsunami, a mature woman with blue hair who was waiting for her arrival, Hisame had already discussed several times with her and considered her a calm and caring person, the complete opposite of herself.
"He'll be surprised to hear that you renamed that bridge after him."
"It's a little surprise from us when he comes back, I hope you can keep it a secret, Hisame-san."
"This kid will be overjoyed, but I'm rather surprised to see a place developing so much. I initially expected a huge slum but this place is better than expected."
"Don't make fun of this place, Hisame-san!" Said Tsunami with a slight pout.
"Fufufufu how to take you seriously when you have such an innocent face, people will be a huge surprise when they learn your real abilities and potentials." Hisame followed the woman to the principle village.
The village had changed a lot since the arrival of Team 7, the inhabitants had a joie de vivre on their faces, most of the renovated houses and the various shops that sold seafood were lively.
The main economy of the country revolved around fishing and rainbow shells which produced beautiful pearls, Tsunami had worked hard during the past month to drive out foreigners who were illegally taking their resources.
Tsunami had also managed to negotiate a commercial exchange with an average jewelry company in the land of fire who agreed to buy their products at a reasonable price.
"You should bring here those big crabs that hang around not far from the mansion and there are also those carp that have just arrived. They will be a good source of income for you, their flesh is succulent and they reproduce quickly." Hisame suggested.
"Hmm I thought about that but you have to be careful about that." Tsunami had a slight fear that his secret would be discovered by bringing creatures from the dimension back to the real world.
The two women walked around the village until they found a tall man with grayish skin, he was wearing a navy blue uniform, a mask that covered his mouth and a huge object wrapped in bandages on his back.
"Who is she?" Said the man, frowning.
"Hello Zabuza-san, this is Hisame-san who is going to live with us for a while. Don't worry, she is a close friend of Naruto-kun." Reassured the woman as she addressed the man in charge of the security of the place.
"It's a pleasure to meet the famous Zabuza Momochi, the Mist Demon. I too left my village before I met this blond kid who forced me to stay here." Said Hisame with his usual mischievous expression, she remained unmoved as the man wanted to intimidate her with his aura.
"Grrrr..." Zabuza frowned knowing that his identity was revealed by a shinobi.
"I have perfect confidence in her, Zabuza-san." Tsunami said quickly, trying to calm the tension.
"Grrr as long as she doesn't cause trouble." Zabuza released his bloodthirst slightly to warn the woman that he was ready to act if she would cause trouble or be a threat to his life.
"Pff he's not very welcoming."
"He's not a bad person, he just stays on his toes with everyone. Even after spending a few months with us, he hasn't given his trust to any new people but has a strong relationship with his follower. "
"Oh this guy has a follower?" Hisame was curious about the student of a former member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist of Kirigakure.
"Yes, he works in the pharmacy and mainly deals with the management of medicinal herbs and the manufacture of medicine. He is a young gentle and calm but you should not be fooled by his appearance because he gave a good fight to Naruto."
Tsunami then took her guest back to her new home near hers, outside the village. She helped him set up some of his things, going back and forth from the dimension.
"Thank you so much." Hisame put aside his arrogant personality to thank the woman who had prepared a beautiful house to furnish for her.
"There's no worries, Hisame-san. On top of that you're someone who knows Naruto's secret, it's impossible for me not to make your stay comfortable. Especially since you'll be helping us in the future to defend/organize this place."
"Now that we're calm, let's go see Naruto and ask him if he's okay with bringing koi carp and crabs here. They're only much weaker than in the dungeon and don't drop rare items."
"He's probably busy with the chunin exam, I don't want to disturb him at this important moment." Said Tsunami.
Today was a big day for Naruto, the chunin exam which was preparing for this month and the village of Konoha was starting to welcome guests and participants in Konoha.
Naruto was impatiently awaiting the arrival of two people and did not wait long to see them, they were accompanied by several Kusa ninjas. He waited a few minutes while they separated to approach the mother/daughter duo.
"Narutooo!" The red-haired girl rushed into the boy's arms.
"I'm so happy to finally see you here in Konoha, now I'll make that old hokage keep you here."
Naruto quickly led the Uzumaki family to his small apartment, he was a little embarrassed to show them his small apartment but they will sleep in his dimension anyway.
They had already moved all of their belongings before leaving and had no reason to return to Kusagakure. The boy had to decline Karin's request to visit him because he had to join his team to accomplish a mission, but he promised to give her a complete tour of his village after the exam.
After a D-rank mission where they had to clean up a park, Team 7 split up leaving Naruto and Sakura alone, the two genins quickly came across a group of children spying on them.
Naruto immediately recognized their leader who was a child with short brown hair, Konohamaru Sarutobi, the grandson of the Hokage. He was accompanied by his teammates: Udon Ise, a sleepy-looking boy, and Moegi Kazamatsuri, a fiery girl who greatly admired Naruto and those around him.
They all wore glasses that resembled Naruto's when he was still at the Academy as they considered him a role model. The group discussed a moment during which Naruto told most of his missions and exaggerated the story a little to sublimate him. But as they parted ways, Konohamaru bumped into a boy a bit older than Naruto.
"You hurt me, kid." The boy then lifted Konohamaru by his scarf.
"Leave him alone, this brat is going to get us into trouble." Said the blond girl who accompanied him.
"Leave him alone!" Naruto approached the stranger who wore a different headband than Konoha's, he was dressed in a black jumpsuit, his face covered in tattoos and carried a huge object covered in bandages on his back.
"Ninjas from Konoha…I'm going to have fun with them." The boy thought seeing the headband on Naruto's forehead.
Naruto immediately stopped and warned when he saw strange threads covering his limbs, he also felt that the two people in front of him considered him an enemy. He quickly activated his chains to retrieve the boy from the stranger's grasp.
"Huh?! What's that technique?!"
"Get out of here or Naruto-sama will beat you up!" Says Konohamaru finally freed from his attacker.
"What?! I'll take care of you brats! Don't hold me back, Temari!"
"Wait Kankuro!" Warned the blonde woman as a pebble came into contact with her teammate's hand, slightly injuring him.
"You are at home here." Sasuke said as he sat on a tree.
"I don't like kids like you who show off." Kankurō began to remove the bandages from the object on his back, letting out a full head of brown hair.
"You're not going out, Karasu?!" Temari exclaimed.
The genins all immediately got into a fighting stance when they saw the man getting really aggressive. Naruto discreetly warned Sakura to be careful after detecting the presence of a new, much more dangerous person.
"Kankuro, stop." A calm voice was heard.
"You bring shame to our village." Said the red-haired boy with the kanji: 'Love' engraved on the left side of his forehead, he was perched upside down on the same tree as Sasuke.
"Gaara..." Kankurō calmed down, fear on his face.
"I didn't feel his presence…" Sasuke thought, observing the strange boy who had a huge gourd on his back.
Gaara's intervention calmed the situation and he reappeared alongside his team, causing a strange sand to appear around him.
"On behalf of our team, I apologize to you." He said in a cold and calm tone. "We didn't come here to have fun."
"Yes, sorry. I got carried away by the situation." A drop of sweat ran down Kankurô's forehead.
"Wait, are you Sunagakure ninjas?! Are you here for the chunin exam?" Sakura asked.
"Yes. I am Gaara from the desert, give me your names." Said Gaara in the direction of Naruto and Sasuke, it made Sakura angry seeing the boy ignoring his presence.
"We are genin from Konoha, this is Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. My name is Naruto Uzumaki, don't cause trouble in our village." Said Naruto while he was silent since Gaara appeared.
"That might be interesting." Sasuke thought seeing Suna's ninjas leaving.
"There was another team spying on us." Said Naruto as he was back in his dimension, he was surrounded by Sakura, Hinata, Yamame, Karin and his mother.
"These are Otogakure ninjas!" Yamame exclaimed upon hearing Naruto's description.
"Maybe they just came to participate in the exam?" Said Karin innocently.
"It's impossible! Orochimaru must be up to something in Konoha!" Yamame was beginning to lose her temper as the people around her tried to reassure her.
"What do you think of the Suna ninjas we met, Naruto?" Sakura questioned.
"This Gaara has a huge amount of chakra more than Kakashi's but I felt a lot of hatred in him. I had also activated my skill to see their affinity with me and it was normal for Kankurô and Temari who consider me an enemy but Gaara is quite different. The wind around him being completely dark meaning a hatred against me."
"We should be very careful of him during the exam. Karin if you meet them during a test then you absolutely have to flee the fight. Sakura said in the direction of her friend.
"Yes take care of yourself, darling." Said Kuina hugging her daughter.
"Don't worry mom, I've been training a lot with Yamame this month." Karin had spent most of her training time in the dimension with the woman who temporarily lived in the dimension.
The group then spent several ten minutes discussing the upcoming exam.
At the same time Kakashi with several Jōnin colleagues were in the Hokage's office, they were announcing whether or not their team's participation in the chunin exam that would take place in the following days.
"These 9 genins are not close!" Said a man with a horizontal scar on his nose.
"I was 6 years old when I passed to the chunin rank and Naruto has improved a lot since he left the academy, Iruka-sensei." Said Kakashi turning to the former genin teacher.
"Naruto is not ready for this!!! They will be in danger by participating in this exam." Iruka exclaimed.
"You will be very surprised to see the strength of this boy, they miss the current missions and are ready to increase their rank. They are no longer your students but mine now."
"Iruka! I understand your point of view and I will add a preliminary test for these 9 genins." Said Hiruzen who silently listened to the debate.
The next day Team 7 received the information from Kakashi of their participation in the chunin exam but as the day passed, the test added by the Hokage took place and the genins had to be tested by Jōnins.
"He must be here to test me." Naruto thought as he was confronted by a ninja wearing the Amegakure headband. He had already been informed by Hinata and had analyzed the aura of his adversary who did not consider him an enemy.
Naruto easily managed to free Moegi who was the hostage of the ninja and managed to imprison him in his chains of chakra. At the same time Sakura and Sasuke were also tested by the same ninja and they showed their different abilities.
The ninja revealed himself to be Iruka Umino who announced his report to Kakashi.
"They've made a lot of progress, especially Naruto." Iruka said.
Iruka was extremely surprised by the progress made by Naruto and Sakura who had very powerful new abilities.
"Ahahah that kid isn't the same kid who used to clown around at the academy anymore." Said Kakashi thinking about his adamantine chains technique. "Being able to use the same technique as…"
