Chapter 156: The Defeat Of The Second-In-Command Lycanne

Unbeknownst to Albrecht, Severus Lycanne was also holding back as well. For one, he was surprised that Albrecht was actually pretty weak, and it gave him some form of confidence to keep on attacking while disregarding his techniques. Had he been a little bit more careful, he would've won the match in an instant.

Since his judgment was clouded with his unconfirmed confidence, it didn't even occur to him that Albrecht was also holding back. Then again, he could more or less guess the difference in their levels, that's why he concluded that Albrecht was using his full power— and that his achievement of defeating someone from the Lycanne Tribe was a mere fluke.

With a slight grin, Severus finally found another opening, and he decided to finish this match once and for all. Increasing his speed up a notch, he delivered a powerful kick right at Albrecht's face. If the kick were to connect... then Albrecht would be instantly decapitated.

In Severus's mind, there was no way he would survive such a powerful kick. Severus had already estimated Albrecht's max speed, and he doubled that speed before attacking him without reprieve.

Swish~!

The air seemed to be sliced as Severus delivered his kick. Albrecht could've sworn that the kick actually spawned a wind blade and he was right on the money.

In a split second, Albrecht snapped his head back, thinking that that would be enough to avoid the attack. He didn't have enough time to activate his 'Chronos Reversion' skill which would have given him a second at most.

Fortunately, the attack didn't connect. Albrecht was able to dodge the speedy kick... but his right cheek was grazed, and a shallow wound in a straight line appeared on it. A drop of blood flowed on the line before coagulating at the tip.

"Tsk~!" Albrecht let out as he took a step backward. However, that wasn't enough to faze him. Thanks to his 'Calm Mind' skill, he was able to rationally think of his next move before anything else.

Bringing his center of gravity a little bit forward, Albrecht lowered his body and rushed at Severus at an even faster speed, catching him off guard. Since Severus was confident that Albrecht had reached his maximum speed a couple of moments ago, the approach made him panic a little bit.

Under normal circumstances, he would've been able to at least block the attack. But right now, he was disoriented, and Albrecht used that against him.

Slinging his arm from one side to the other, Albrecht swung his Sariel Death Scythe right at Severus's legs, hoping to at least injure him before he regained his composure.

Swish~!

From Albrecht's point of view, he watched as Severus's pupils dilated in that hundredth of a second. Right now, he was too frozen to dodge, and the full brunt of the attack hit him.

Fwip~!

A whipping sound was heard as the Sariel Death Scythe cut through the air. Well, it didn't just slice the wind, it also sliced Severus's two legs in an instant.

Blood spurted out of the two stumps of legs that stood still on the ground. They stayed standing until one of them tipped sideways, knocking the other leg over.

As for Severus, he fell on his back before letting out a pained grunt. Not only did the attack surprise him, but it also cut through his defenses and cut his legs clean from the knee down. In an instant, Severus went from looking at Albrecht's cowl and then transitioning his gaze into a nice view of the sky.

"Wha—"

During that moment, Severus's life flash before his eyes as he remembers his early days as a draftee. Day after day was filled with back-to-back hellish training, not to mention the spartan higher-ups who wanted all the draftees to suffer a lot.

Even then, he had shown great promise, and as someone from a poor family, he was able to claw his way up the mud pit. In a couple of months, he rose through the ranks and became second-in-command.

Now, he was given an important mission to get rid of a threat. It should've been an easy job since the threat was tens of levels lower than him. But now that the fight resulted in him losing his legs... he realized that he thought wrong.

Although the werewolf tribe had insane regeneration skills, something from that attack prevented him from reconnecting his legs. It was a new experience for him— losing two legs and not being able to reconnect them back.

His pride took a massive blow, and he lay on the ground while admiring the sky right in front of him. Even though he could still struggle with both his arms, he knew that it was useless. Now that he had lost his legs, there was no way he could go back into the army.

Even if he defeated Albrecht here, he wouldn't be welcomed as a hero once he got back. Rather, he'd be kicked out of the military and relieved of service.

A single chuckle escaped his mouth as he briefly stole a glance at Albrecht who jumped up while swinging his scythe upwards. This time, Albrecht aimed at Severus's head, aiming to behead him so he would die a painless death.

Severus watched as Albrecht flew. At this point, he had already accepted his fate, and his last exhale escaped his mouth.

Swish~!

Clink~!

Before the tip of the Sariel Death Scythe even touched Severus's neck, Albrecht felt like a strong gravitational force pinned him to the ground. Not only that, he also felt a crippling bloodthirst envelop his entire body as the momentum of the Sariel Death Scythe completely stopped.

"You've done well welcoming my subordinate, Albrecht Stein." A low voice greeted Albrecht as a figure seemed to teleport in front of him.

Albrecht tried to speak, but the gravitational pull was too much. He felt like if he were to open his mouth, he would clench his teeth and break a couple of them in the process.

"You exceeded our expectations... but you're no match for me. You're no match for me, and you're no match for the other first-in-commands." The figure spoke before removing the curse on Severus's legs.

Fwip~! Suddenly, Severus's legs were fully healed, and the figure lent him his hand so he could stand up.

"We'll await your arrival in the Eighth Outerlayer... and we look forward to a glorious spectacle of your struggle as you meet your untimely end. Until then." The figure closed his speech before he and Severus disappeared in a snap of a finger.
