Chapter 12: Under Attack
They decide to sleep after dinner, a short moment later, Max wakes up to the sounds of some fighting going on just outside his house.
He can hear the sounds of a sword being swung against some steel armor, as well as various grunting sounds and the sounds of goblins yelling.
He goes outside of his house and sees Cain fighting 3 goblins in armor. His sword is currently lodged into one of the goblins chestplates, as he tries to wrench it back out.
One of the goblins quickly moves behind Cain and starts to go for an attack right at his exposed back.
Max casts water magic towards the goblin and it lands right towards the goblin's feet, his spell causes the goblin to stumble and fall forwards as it tries to recover.
Cain then quickly takes this opportunity to wrench his sword out. He quickly turns right after and stabs the goblin right in the head and kills it on the spot.
He then looks over his shoulder as there is one goblin that he is barely able to dodge.
Cain manages to jump out of the way with his quick foot movements.
"Cain! where's Miss Piah and Luna?!"
Cain looks at Max back and starts to respond towards him, as he quickly tries to cut through the goblin's leg with a quick sweep of his sword. He barely just manages to connect his blade with the goblin's exposed knee cap.
The goblin then drops to the ground, as it clutches at its leg and starts to howl out in pain. Cain then quickly dashes behind the goblin and delivers a quick blow towards the goblins head, killing it on the spot.
He then quickly turns back towards Max right after and nods his head, saying, "They are sleeping right now."
"Oh... right... thank you."
Max jumped up onto the roof of his house and he start to see that there are actually quite a few goblins and other monsters. He can hear goblins laughing as they are destroying the homes.
He can also hear a couple of villagers who are crying out for help, as a goblin notices them and quickly starts to chase them down. He then notice a monster that seems to be a giant toad monster, which seems to be causing quite the ruckus within the village as well.
"What happened here? this is chaos..." Max is just standing on his roof, he looks like he has seen a ghost.
He jumps down from the roof onto the ground and rolls to soften his fall. He quickly stand up and start to rush towards the center of the village. While he does this, he hear voices nearby and see a goblin attacking one of the villagers with his sword.
This voice has a low, somewhat croaking, but it is also a bit high-pitched. They start to yell out, "Give me all your money!" Max rush over to the goblin and punch it.
Max hit it with a devastating blow and broke its nose. The Goblin then drops its sword to the ground and starts to wail in pain. Max grab its sword and points it at the goblin throat.
"Why are you attacking the village?!"
The Goblin then responds towards Max by saying, "The Demon Lord sent us here."
"The Demon Lord? didn't he die in the Great Wizards War?"
The Goblin laughs at Max's remark and says, "Haha, you humans will never learn. The demon lord will never die, no matter how many times you kill him. He will always come back as he is a god-like being."
He then starts to yell out louder and says, "Now kill me, as I will never give you any useful information." He then decides to add on a bit and says, "Kill me if you can, that is."
He then decides to mock Max a bit more and says. "You may have strength, but you are a fool."
Max strikes its throat and he hear the Goblin start to gag. The Goblin then starts to drop to its knees and starts to slowly fall backwards, choking to death.
It falls to the ground and he notice the blood on the ground as it starts to pool out. The goblin then becomes motionless... dead. Max then continued to run towards the village center, as he start to see several more monsters as well. He see various kinds of goblins. There are also some very strong monsters which seem to be able to easily push through any attempts to repel them.
He keeps on running and he eventually end up at the center of the village. He see quite a few monsters and goblins still roaming around inside of the village as well as various villagers.
One of the monsters then happens to notice him, it roars at Max as it prepares to attack.
It appears to be some sort of monster that is roughly the same size as human. It also seems to have dark blue skin, with white tusks, and two glowing orange eyes.
It then starts to sprint towards Max with incredible speed.
Max cast a water magic towards it and it lands perfectly on its body. The water magic instantly causes the monster to stop its charge towards him, as it starts to roar in frustration. It then tries to shake the water off of itself. It then rushes towards Max with renewed haste.
Max uses the sword to stab the monster right before it gets to him. He pierce the monster right through its chest, and it drops to the ground dead. He then start to notice that the monster's body is beginning to melt into a pool of black liquid.
He also starts to hear the sounds of other monsters and goblins yelling in rage towards him.
Max then started zoning out as he starts to hear villagers cries for help from all around the village. There is a large amount of villagers who are currently hiding in a storehouse, while they try to block the monsters from getting to them.
He also start to hear the screams of various villagers who were caught off guard by the monsters.
A group of goblins and monsters start pushing against the storehouse door. It sounds like they are going to try to find a way inside.
Max is just standing there zoning out, he remembers many memories that best left forgotten. A loud humming noise that seems to be coming from the sky snaps Max back to reality.
He then notices a massive scythe coming flying in above him and pierce through a multitude of monsters and goblins that are charging towards his position.
While many monsters and goblins are cut through by the scythe, others are sent flying away due to its force.
He can hear the screams of the goblins and monsters as they are cut down and or flung away.
