Chapter 20: goblins and smiles

"And this is why we have test Riri.. to refine our skills and remove rooky mistakes."

"It is a total of thirty goblins which includes the 5,6 feet tall goblin 'giant' and a shaman..?"

The shaman seemingly appeared out of nowhere, probably from the item he had detected but it still surprising Akabaru a little.

Getting into a fighting stance that he is convertible with Akabaru takes a second to reassess the situation.

"Who will you be fighting, Faer-sama?"

"I will aim for the shaman, he is more interesting than most and you have more physical damage than magical damage mitigation, so you should probably go against the leading goblin."

Taking a final deep breath Akabaru activates [way of the fist – water punch] effectively stopping and killing a large part of the attackers that were charging towards him without any coordination, leaving behind a small group of stragglers that protected the shaman and the leader who had dodged the attack because he had time to see it coming.

"Well look at that…"

"KYaAaAA..!"

Screaming in the name of his fallen kin the leader lunges towards Akabaru but was intercepted by Yuri before he could reach him.

The shaman begins to cast a spell but was interrupted as the head of a dead goblins hits him in the chest.

The Four goblins that were guarding the shaman were terrified by the sight of Akabaru, they had seen him kill twenty-four of them with a single punch.. their legs quivered while Akabaru approached.

"kyakaka!"

The goblin shaman gave them a small buff, seemingly increasing their strength.. as the previously terrified goblins seemed to have regain their will to fight.

"pathetic, you think a buff will able them to even have a chance against me!"

Just as the goblins were about to make their move, Akabaru stepped forward. His movements were as swift as the wind. And then, faster than that, he swung his right fist. Destroying one of the skulls of a goblin that was buffed.

The others even in the face of death tried to pierce him with their crude weapons, breaking them on his skin and leaving no hope in the eyes of the remaining goblins.

Akabaru turned to the shaman who was dissipating, activating [warriors will] to knock the four goblins out without the risk of killing the special shaman with to much force.

Akabaru wondered if the goblin had a specific skill that aloud it to hide in plain site, or if it was a item… looking at the still alive body he saw a unique looking item around its neck, looking at it more closely the item was probably the reason the shaman could turn invisible.

Akabaru picked up the item, killed the goblins and turned to Yuri, who was finishing off the goblin

"Are you finished, Riri?"

Looking towards Yuri, Akabaru sees a disgusted frown on her face as she beats the corps of the tall goblin.

"I am sorry my lord, it was a disgusting being with the foulest of intentions."

"No, its fine some goblins are just have rotten insides."

Moving back to the split and then turning into the unexplored section they eventually stumble upon the body's of village girls, most of whom are dead but two of with survived.

Crouching down to hear the whispers barely coming from their mouths, you listen as they beg for death…

-

Leaving the cave with Yuri at your side and 28 goblin ears and two goblin heads to confirm the deaths of the hunt.

"Why did you kill them, Faer-sama?"

Speaking up because of her sympathy for humans because Yuri had a positive karma value.

"it was their wish not to live anymore, who am I to let their suffering continue. U understand right Riri?"

"Could we not have saved them or at least show that there is another path?"

"It is a cruel world Riri, you know that people make mistakes but sometimes it is irreversible. They didn't have the drive to live anymore, what you suggest is a better outcome but you pay the price of more pain."

"You mean, do the ends explain the means?"

"Ye, something like that…. Lets just head back."

"Yes, of course Faer-sama, we can arrive at dusk if we are quick."

"We don't have to hurry Riri, your company is enjoyable."

"Thank you, my lord!"

"No problem…"

-

Akabaru and Yuri could be seen arriving thru the northern gate of Re-Estize

Moving thru the streets they came upon an intersection.

Yuri looked to Akabaru, realizing that they where not heading to the Guild Hall or to their accommodations.

"Where are we headed to, Faer-sama?"

"A minor perk of the wanderer class is that it guides you, it is not an active or passive skill but rather something innate. Details in how things work appear to be more important."

"What do you mean by that, Faer-sama?"

"I mean that I can take advantage of the lore, if we were to summon children of a god would we not make that god real in this world?"

"Faer-sama, I.. no, we of the tomb belief in the supreme lords, you are one of our creators, our gods."

Akabaru smiled at her words.

"While I do love all of the tombs residents, being viewed as a god is going to much."

"Bu.."

"We have arrived."

Akabaru interrupted Yuri as they arrived to a dark alley. Both peering into the darkness of the night could see a woman around twenty years old, with short blonde hair and ruined features.. She lay there on the ground with a couple of men around her.

The woman was mumbling something that couldn't be picked up by any normal ears but Akabaru could

"Excuse me miss, do you need help?"

The trio that had seemed to beat her up turned towards the entrance of the ally seeing two people standing there, their features blocked by the sun.

"He.. get out of here if you don't want any trouble.. this is official business.. she has a contract that she attempted to flee from!"

"Now Riri.. how would you deal with this situation?"

Yuri looked confused for a second but understood the assignment

"I would investigate the legitimate of their claims and questioned all parties involved.."

"Would that not take to long Riri?"

"As long as they are cooperative then not at all master.."

"Hey! I don't know who you two are but we have the legal right to protect ourselves and our property!"

One of the guys that had beaten up the woman tried threatening them with violence, if only he could see the mithril plate hanging from Akabaru's neck, then he would have probably decided to run..

-

At the same time…

The campfire's logs cracked loudly and spat embers amidst the silence.

Around the campfire sat five people discussing the happenings of that day

In an attempt to lighten the heaviness in the air from the conversation from before, Nfirea gingerly spoke:

"...Momon-san's fighting was really spectacular."

As though waiting for these words, Peter immediately added:

"Yeah, I didn't think it would be so amazing. He cut an Ogre clean in two…"

"That was seriously over the top."

"Beating an Ogre in one blow is amazing in it's own right, but how good do you have to be to cleave it in half?"

The Swords of Darkness looked at each other after hearing Nfirea's puzzled question.

Nfirea was a young man who was famous for his innate talent, as well as an excellent magic caster. Although he might well shake the world with his abilities, it was difficult for him to understand the full extent of Ainz's prowess without another warrior for comparison.

With that in mind, Peter began explaining to Nfirea, in a way that was as easy to understand as possible:

"Normally, greatswords are used in a hacking fashion, but he employed a slashing method. Usually, when using a greatsword one-handed, it would be very difficult to sever the limbs of enemies as large as Ogres… but it would seem there's an exception to that now."

Nfirea gasped as he heard Peter's words. Peter felt that Nfirea was not sufficiently awed, and decided to name someone he might be more familiar with:

"Honestly speaking, I think Momon-san is on the same level as the Kingdom's Warrior-Captain."

Nfirea's eyes widened in astonishment. He finally understood what the Swords of Darkness thought of Ainz's abilities.

"...That is to say, he could be an adamantite ranked adventurer… those people who are the highest ranked adventurers, living legends, in other words, the mightiest human beings?"

"Indeed," Peter replied as he nodded gently. Nfirea looked around at the other members of the Swords of Darkness, who were also nodding in approval.

He was dumbfounded.

Adamantite ranked adventurers possessed guild plates made of adamantite, a rare magical material which was the hardest metal known to man. If adventurers and their numbers formed a pyramid, then adamantite ranked adventurers would occupy the peak, and would be correspondingly scarce. Both the Kingdom and the Empire only boasted two teams of adamantite ranked adventurers each.

Their abilities were at the zenith of human potential. One might even call them heroes.

And Momon was a person who could rival them.

"That's incredible…"

One could hear the utter amazement in those words.

-

Khazit clicked his tongue.

"Where is that girl?" he pondered aloud

'If she isn't back by tomorrow than I am letting my followers do the job of capturing the boy, it wouldn't be a big problem for them.'

Khazit continued to ponder as he guided a newly-created Zombie over to the undead storage area.

'The Orb of Death, truly powerful.'

The number of undead that could be controlled by the third-tier spell [Create Undead] was limited by the power of the spell's caster. The more undead one made, the fewer one could control. Still, Zombies were among the lowest grade of undead. Someone like Khazit, who was specialized in controlling the undead, could maintain his hold over the unbelievable amount of over a hundred of them at once. The reason Khazit could control more than even that number was due to the power of the item he carried — the Orb of Death.

'I've spent several years preparing to turn this place into a city of the dead. I don't want that girls antics to set my plans back.'
