Chapter 37: In his arms - part one

Eve returned the books to the shelf, picked the ones she wanted, and turned around. As she sensed, Sebastian was in the room. "You're getting more interested in the witches," he said, walking towards her and blocking her path when she tried to walk away.

His hand moved to her chin, lifting her head up to gaze into her glassy brown eyes. Eve held her breath, trying to compose herself but failed as her heart skipped a beat with his single touch.

"I'm not knowledgeable about them, that's why," she replied.

"The books have limited details about the witches and most of them are factual. I have the real ones, you can come get them in my room."

"I.. after I'm done with this ones," She replied, trying to avoid his gaze.

"Did Grace's words hurt you?" Sebastian asked calmly, observing her before asking. She shook her head in response.

"People may say mean things, but you don't always have to listen to them. She was envious, which led her to say all those things. Everyone only hates someone who is more unique," he moved his hand from her chin to gently stroke her cheek.

"And you don't have to make everyone love you. I'm here, and enough to give you all the love you need."

"As for Grace, you won't have to hear her voice again." His words provoked suspicion in Eve, and she asked, "What did you do to her?"

"Nothing."

She didn't trust his word, evident from the way she stared at him. He gave a soft laugh. "I merely spoke to her, warned her," he clarified. She slowly nodded, wondering what exactly he could have said to her. She felt his hand tracing her neck, causing her to turn towards him.

"Don't think of other things when I'm with you. I should occupy the space in your mind before successfully capturing your heart," he leaned in, brushing his nose against the crook of her neck. Hearing her sharp intake of breath, he grinned and nuzzled her skin a few more times before pulling away.

"I don't think you have to do all this to win a lady's heart," Eve managed to say.

"Hmmm. Then tell me, how would you like me to court you?" Sebastian questioned, pleased with her response.

"By giving her space and respecting her privacy?" She wasn't entirely sure as she asked him. She didn't spend much time with the opposite sex to know the correct way to court a lady, causing him to chuckle.

"You, my darling mouse, would run away if I did that," he asserted. Eve could only agree with his words; she would surely run far away from him to suppress the fluttering in her heart.

"I believe this is the best way. You're clearly affected by me. You're looking so red, ready to be bitten, and I can hear your heartbeat racing," he remarked, pointing towards her heart. He whispered into her ear, "Have you perhaps already fallen for me?" before kissing her earlobe and nibbling it gently.

"No!" Eve hastily replied, clutching the books to her chest in an attempt to still her racing heart. Yes, his actions made her blush and her heart race, but it was due to his brazen actions, not the feelings he claimed she had. She heard him hum in response and felt him take her earlobe between his teeth again.

"Ouch!" She cried when he bit a little too hard, then soothed the spot with his tongue. His hand brushed the side of her breast, causing her to gasp and clutch the books tighter. Feeling him continue to lick her ear.

He had a sinful mouth, too sinful to cause the tingling in her stomach with him just kissing her ear. She dropped the books she held to the ground and when the sudden sound broke his concentration, she quickly scrouched to pick the book.

"Sorry," Was what she said when she stood back up and with the little distance she got away from him. She quickly made her way to the door and bolted out of the room.

Sebastian turned, amused and silently chuckled to himself. He glanced at the huge room briefly before walking out, closing the door as he went away.

Eve didn't stop running until she got to her room and she hurriedly closed the door, turning the door to lock. She leaned her back on it, and panted as she tried to calm her harsh breathing.

Moving her hand to the knob, she turned it again to secure the lock before walking to her bed. The weather had turned gloomy making the room dark so she lit the lantern on the bedside drawer and sat down to read the book in her hand.

'Spells for ordinary magic.'

The first page read, it contained gibberish words, which she tried to read. The first spell was for fire and remembering the vampire had opened up his palm, she did the same and muttered the spell written under.

Nothing happened, she tried again but the same futile result making her wonder if it had some special ways to say it. She remembered Sebastian had said most of the books had false report on witchery, it should be why, she thought to herself and opened the second page of the book. It had no heading and she read,

'...Many ask the reason why we decide to teach the vampires when we didn't want them turning against us. Compared to the other creatures, we are smaller in numbers and decided to manipulate the minds of the ones who were ready to be one of us. That way, we had pure witches and vampires in our clan and the tradition remained. Until one of us became attached to one of the vampires, it was for better relation to some of us, while for others, they were not supposed to be a shared feeling between the two. The diversity in our clan grew when the two of them birthed a daughter, one who had the pure genes of both her parent; a hybrid...'

"Evilyna," Eve pursed to say to herself. Weren't they supposed to have a closer bond with her birth? Could be the witches wanted her to have a pure witch blood to seem superior or.. She decided to continue to read the book than contemplate on the reasons. She turned to the next page, and when she read the unfamiliar words written on the top slowly, she started to feel drowsy, and her eyelids shut close. Her body swayed and she fell onto the bed, entering a dream realm.

It was a black empty space, and it felt like she was wide awake and thrown in a dark hole. Eve could hear her heartbeats from the little space and it felt like hours before she picked the faint trace of voice. Slowly, the room brightened and she squinted her eyes.

'Lyna! Lyna!' she heard in her dreams and a woman appeared in front of a small house. She was a young and beautiful woman with average height. She opened the small door and step inside.

'Lyna? Your friends are already lighting the fire crackers, didn't you say you would love to play with them?' she said looking around the small room before stepping into another room.

'Evilyna?' She called looking at the young girl who sat on the ground. Her hands were folded on her knees and she placed her head on them. The woman quickly sat down beside her.

'What's wrong?' She asked, raising her hand to stroke the little girl's brown hair.

'No body wants to play with me, mama. I don't have any friends,' The girl sniffed and raised her tears smeared face to look at her mother. Her eyes were light red and her tiny fangs were visible in her parted lips.

'Why do you say so? They are your friends.'

"No, they said it themselves. Their parents don't want them playing with me that I'm different," She cried again.

'Don't listen to their words, Lyna. You are the same as every other child.'

"No mama, I'm not." The little girl disagreed with her mother's words.

'I'm the only one with red eyes and longer teeth like the vampires.'

Sighing softly, the woman patted her back, 'You can always change your eye color before going to play with them,' She said and her little girl turned to her.

'Really?'

'Just close your eyes, and say the words. You'll have the color you want.'

By now the words were becoming faint in Eve's ears, she saw the little girl close her eyes and her lips moved, repeating the words she couldn't hear after her mother. When she snapped her eyes open, her eyes were no longer red, but brown, that stared brightly like her mother's.
