Chapter 17: Little lamb

"W-What did you say?" Lucian asked acting as if he was still unclear of her words.

Ariana was shamelessly staring at Lucian snapped out of her thoughts when he questioned her.

'Can this floor split into two and swallow me up' Ariana felt like crying as she mentally cursed herself for being this audacious.

Gasping like a dying fish Ariana tried to come up with an excuse but couldn't as she found it hard to even utter a word. He was so close that she felt nervous.

Lucian watched her cheeks turn pink and once again the corner of his lips lifted as he heaved out an amusing smile knocking her embarrassment flat and watched as she quickly averted her eyes from him.

"N-nothing... I didn't say anything" She lied and started playing with the pen in her hand nervously.

Ariana just wanted to dig a hole for herself and hide there until Lucian was out of her sight.

She was never this bold enough to shamelessly praise someone's beauty, especially the opposite sex. But with Lucian, it came out of the flow.

Sensing her nervousness, Lucian pulled himself straight as he shoved his hands into his pocket and watched the girl die out of embarrassment.

He couldn't help but chuckle at her cute reaction. She looked like a lamb.

"By the way thanks for the compliment," he said and watched her freeze on the spot.

Lucian was purposely trying to pull her leg as he wanted her to come and defend herself as she did back in the classroom. He was very impressed by her braveness as she took a stand for herself without holding back the truth.

But when she didn't look at him, his smile slowly dissipated. Patting her head one last time, he turned and walked out of her room giving her some space.

Thud!

The sound of the shutting door finally made her relax and she slowly turned her head and looked in the direction he walked before she heaved out a sigh.

Ariana was feeling so hot all of a sudden that she felt she was having a fever, but she knew it wasn't. It was all the after-effect of her action.

Bringing her palm to her chest, she felt her heart pounding inside her chest. She thought Lucian only had this tendency to make her heart go on a rampage with just his looks but she was wrong it was that contagious smile of his that made her heart go crazy.

"What are you doing to me Lucian," she asked caressing her heart with Lucian smiling face appearing in front of her eyes.

Lucian shook his head as he walked through the hallway with a delighted smile on his face failing to notice the eyes that stared at him.

"Did I just see our Master smile" one of the maid muttered as she stopped doing her work and looked at Lucian with awe.

"I don't know maybe we are dreaming. Can you just pinch me" the other one next to her stretched her arm and suddenly hissed in pain. "Ah... what are you-" gazing at the previous maid she was about to yell but stopped when they heard someone clear his throat.

"Ahem"

Both the ladies jumped on their spots when Fret stood in front of them. His gloomy face scared the shit out of them and they both immediately looked down.

"What are you two doing here? Don't you have any work in the kitchen" his deadpan voice almost made them cry and without wasting a second they bobbed their head and dashed toward the kitchen area.

Fret kept looking at their backs until they both disappeared from his sight before he looked up and a smile curled on his lips.

The moment he appeared in the living hall, he watched the two maids looking upstairs. At first, he wanted to scold them for not doing their work but when he followed their gaze, his heart almost dropped into his stomach.

'Did the alpha just smiled' he thought almost finding it unbelievable at first but then when he realized from where he stepped out, everything made sense.

"I just hope everything will be fine from now on" he muttered before leaving from there.

As soon as Lucian entered his room, his smile disappeared and his eyes turned dark. Walking towards the couch, he picked up his phone and made a call.

The bell kept ringing for some time before the person answered.

"Why are you calling me Lucian? Aren't you happy with your mate being around you? Go and spend some time with her and leave this single man alone" A lazy response made Lucian sneer and he almost yelped at the man.

"Do you want me to come and check what the single person is up to, Drake" Lucian wasn't happy with the way his friend tried to shove him away by bringing up the same old topic. This wasn't the time to pull his leg and that too with such a boring tone.

"But only if you don't want to get embarrassed" Lucian rolled his eyes at Drake's shameless words.

Drake had forgotten his responsibility of being Lucian's beta and had been fooling around finding peace within himself. He thought maybe changing his profession after coming to the human realm will help him forget everything, but he was wrong.

There are certain things that we can't let go of unless and until we try to move on from them.

"Drake... " Lucian's stern voice made Drake stop his teasing.

"Okay, fine, I won't tease you. Tell me what made you disturb me" Standing up from the couch Drake walked inside the bathroom and cleaned his hand which was spilled by his cum after he had just finished giving himself a blow job.

"Have you checked who are those people who are bullying the students inside the university" Taking the seat on the couch Lucian waited for his answer.

Washing his hand clean, Drake then wrapped a towel around his waist and stared into the mirror ahead.

His dark grey eyes looked at his reflection for some time before he answered. "No, not yet. Klaus is still trying to find them"

Lucian's expression turned grim in his response and he questioned. " What is taking him so long to find the culprit?"

Drake arched his brow in amusement when he sensed the displeasure in his tone. He wasn't happy with his response so he decided to ease up his mood.

"By the way how did you find that students in the Orchid are getting bullied and how come we aren't aware of it," Drake asked as he gave his look a thumbs up and walked out of the bathroom.

"It was Ariana who told me about it?" came Lucian's deadpan response.

"Don't tell me someone tried to bully your girl" Drake's eyes widen in shock as he felt the hair on his arm stand straight. Now he understood why Lucian sounded so upset.

"You think would've remained this calm knowing someone hurt my mate? I would've hunted the person to death"

"Hehe, yes you would have" Drake forced an embarrassing smile knowing Lucian wouldn't have been this relaxed if something had happened to his mate.

"Then whom did they bully?" he asked.

"Julianna James"

"The brighter student but why? She doesn't even talk with anyone and minds her own business" His words made Lucian raise his brow with surprise but he choose not to ask Drake about how he knew so much about the girl.

"I don't know the reason yet but one thing was sure, the bullying wasn't very lenient. She sprained her leg and also received a cut on her knee" Lucian remembered how pale the girl looked when she walked into the class with Ariana's help.

Drake rubbed his chin as he attentively listened to Lucian's words. The moment he mentioned Julianna her face appeared in front of his eyes and something clicked in his mind.

"Don't you think we should interrogate Miss James rather than go on by ourselves to catch the culprit" Drake muttered as his lips twitched in annoyance.

'If he had already informed them that the victim who got bullied was Julianna they wouldn't have wasted so much time in finding the culprit by themselves'

"Hmm, I think you are right"

Drake pursed his lips into a thin line as he fight the urge to go and smack his friend aka his Alpha.

"Okay then, it's your job to do that. Ask Klaus to stop the hunt for now" saying Lucian ended the call without listening to Drake's reply.
