Chapter 6: Admission test (4)

Edward and Ava gathered at the side of the road, where their big cars were waiting. The morning was cool, and they were waiting for that intense moment - the race.

Edward studied Ava's car and she studied her car. They were ready to speed up and be part of the track.

"Are you ready?" I asked.

Ava looked at him, gave a tight smile, and put her hand on the ignition. The clock read 7:00.

They both looked at the red light ahead. Flashing headlights, the engine rumbles, throttle cable smoke, all ready for the start.

The red light came on, and with it, the adrenaline rush. Edward waved goodbye and stepped on the gas, speeding down the busy streets.

Meanwhile, Ava pressed the accelerator decisively and followed Edward's advance.

The adrenaline was almost impossible to resist as they drove down the large avenue and after a few steep turns reached the tunnel on the other side of town. Edward sped up even more, but Ava managed to keep pace and overtook Edward and was now leading the race.

At the end of the tunnel, Edward caught up with her, and the cars lined up, following the long straight that would take them to the finish place.

Their tires squeezed the curve as they passed factories, cars, and children stuck in the windows of houses. The cars rattled as Edward and Ava stared at each other through their windshields.

The lampposts passed quickly as the engine screamed in their ear. The speed was risky and the risk increased with every second. They couldn't stop now, they had to keep going. The adrenaline increased with every turn they took and they couldn't stop, no matter what happened. The danger was on all sides and they had to face it together.

Edward and Ava had been competing in the car race for several miles. They were nearing the end of the race and their strength began to wane with fatigue.

The last stretch was the first turn. Ava got ahead in the turn, but it was clear that Edward had much more experience on the track. He came out ahead in the final stretch, yet insistently Ava challenged him.

The last corner appeared. It was then that the unexpected happened: Ava slipped on the curves and went off the track. Edward kept control and managed to keep the middle of the track.

Edward continued towards the finish line, which was a traffic light, and crossed it first. Announcing that he had finally won the race!

.

"I won!"

Honestly, I didn't think I would win, after all, I am in another world and cars might be different from my world, but I was completely wrong. As much as it is another world, technology has not changed, it has just advanced.

Humans still use cell phones, the dollar is still the most used currency, and cars are still driven by people instead of robots. Honestly, I think this is perfect.

Being the winner of the race, I got out of my car and looked back to see if I could find Ava, but strangely enough, she was walking towards me instead of coming with her car.

At that moment I remembered that we were driving in the city and that her car went off the track. But to be honest, I didn't care about her safety, after all, she is an S-Class! I was more concerned about the machine she was driving.

The morning sunlight illuminated the empty track where it was just the two of us and I asked, "Where's your car?" Strangely, instead of answering my question, she simply got into my car and waited for me.

I think she was angry because she lost, but whatever, I don't like to add fuel to the fire. So I opened the car door and got in.

"Let's go back to the Training room." That was the first thing I heard from her as I entered. Honestly, Ava just wanted us to go back so she could beat the crap out of me, maybe she was angry because she lost.

"Are you angry because you lost?" I asked with a fearful tone.

"No!" That was a lie.

"Okay... But why are we going back to the training room?"

"Because I'm going to train you and make sure you pass the academy's entrance test."

After I heard those words, I felt like this was just an excuse for her to beat me up, but I didn't care. Even if I ended up with all the broken bones, I wanted to at least learn something useful that would help me on the test.

With that in mind, I put my foot down and drove to the Lothbrok building.

.

.

On the top floor of the Lothbroks' building, Connor had a unique sight as he spotted a yellow car entering the garage. He quickly realized that Edward and Ava were inside and were curious about the discovery. His head filled with expectations tried to get the reasons for them being there together.

Connor knew that Edward and Ava were not very close, but now they were there together. He began to wonder if Edward had gone there to apologize for something he had done or to return something Ava had given him. Maybe he was there to ask her for help with something. The possibilities were endless and each one more mysterious than the last.

Seeing his private secretary enter his office, Mr. Lothbrok expresses relief. She begins to speak, "Good morning sir, I have some news to report to you."

"I am listening" he replies quietly.

"Miss Ava and your son Edward starred in a race using your car, and ended up damaging it."

"Who won the race?" He asked curiously.

"Your son, Edward Lothbrok, was the winner of the race."

Mr. Lothbrok was surprised by the news. He had not expected it.

"What was the margin of victory?" He asked

"According to our satellites and the security cameras, Edward won by an undisputed margin. No doubt Edward is a better pilot than Ava."

Connor was deep in thought, trying to understand if his son might come to resemble him in the future. There wasn't much he could do to influence his son's thoughts and values unless they had deep conversations on some topics to gauge his level of intelligence and insight on different subjects. Although he was still undetermined on the subject, he could feel a certain pride in the possibility that his son might have inherited his courage and loyalty.

Connor closed his eyes, and in his mind, the past returned. He thought of Emma, his beloved wife, who died the day his son was born. The love he felt for her was so strong and deep that it crossed the barrier of time, and he still felt her presence by his side. The nostalgic thought of his wife was a memory that will never cease to exist in his life.

"Even if he doesn't fit the standards of a lothbrok, he's still going to be my son, right?" pondered Connor.
