Chapter 46: I hope so.
Rayleight laughed as he threw Alex sideways for him, but for Alex it was up. Alex looked up as he reached the marine boat again. He tried to grab the railing but it turned into a ribbon as he started falling again.
Lugh's tongue shot out and grabbed the mast as Alex swung and flew through the air at the marine who was messing with gravity. Alex spun in midair and swung his staff down. However, before he could hit the marine, gravity returned to normal and he started falling down normally.
Alex was ready for this and quickly twisted in midair, the moment he hit the ground he soru'd and smashed his target in the chest with the tip of his weapon. The man spit out blood and fell unconscious.
Alex's head snapped in the direction of the other devil fruit user. He ran at the man and dodged the ribbons being tossed at him. Suddenly, the deck beneath his feet turned into a soft and unsolid material again.
However, Alex's charge remained uninterrupted as he ran on the material in an impossible fashion. He had started using geppo to negate the effect of the ribbons on his footing. Alex reached the other devil fruit user and grabbed him by the wrist. He spun and swung the man before throwing him into a group of four marines and sending all five of them into the wall.
Shanks landed beside Alex and frowned. "Devil fruits are annoying."
"You had to deal with them too?" Alex asked.
Shanks nodded. "One of them kept blowing bubbles that would freeze you when they popped."
Alex chuckled. "You got lucky, I had one who could flip directions and another who could turn anything he touched into a ribbon, deadly combo, I didn't have a single foothold I could use other than the air."
Shanks laughed. "I feel that, I would have been fucked without geppo."
Alex smiled. "Right? Praise me more! You better be grateful I showed you that!"
Shanks laughed.
Suddenly the world around the two boys shifted. Alex felt like his head was spinning as he looked around.
"W-what's happening?" Alex asked Shanks.
However he didn't receive an answer. Shanks was no longer beside him. Alex looked around and noticed that everyone had disappeared.
Suddenly two people walked out from below deck. "Alex! You're back!" They shouted.
Alex looked at the two and smiled. "Grace! Pops! What are you doing here?"
He started to walk towards the two people he missed the most in the world before pausing. "Wait… what was I just doing?"
"Gurararara! What are you talking about brat? You were coming back to your home! You're family!" Whitebeard said merrily.
Alex froze and stared at the two with cold eyes. "How dare you." He seethed.
"W-what? Alex… you're being scary right now." Grace said in fear.
Alex slammed his staff into the ground. "How dare you play around with my family! With my saviours!"
Alex's head darted from side to side, however the boat was still empty. He grit his teeth as rage bubbled inside him.
Small waves of haki started to unconsciously flow out of him as his eyes glowed a deep crimson.
Alex took a deep breath before closing his eyes. Everything around him seemed to slow down and dissipate, he detached himself from the reality that was in front of him. He refused to listen to the information he was being fed by his eyes, ears, nose, mouth and skin. He instead reached deeper inside himself and looked for another option, a sixth sense.
Alex started to feel something else. He felt around and realized that someone was beside him. He was able to… sense the world around him. Alex's eyes shot open as he ducked. His eyes told him he looked like an idiot for dodging for no reason, but his sixth sense, his haki showed him that he was narrowly stabbed by the man standing beside him.
Alex smiled and did a backflip as he could feel that Shanks was about to attack him again. He felt a deep hatred contained within the attacks that Shanks made. Alex wondered who Shanks was seeing for him to be this angry.
Alex stepped sideways and suddenly he felt his foot fall though the ground. Alex cursed, he still needed to work on his observation haki.
Alex fell to the ground as Shanks's attack was about to hit him, however, the attack stopped just before it landed. Shanks suddenly pulled his sword back and reached out a hand to help Alex up.
Alex laughed and grabbed the hand in front of him. The two boys suddenly both ran in a single direction together and attacked.
Suddenly, the world shifted again, and the two boys were brought back to reality. Alex smiled as he looked at the marine in front of him with a deep cut in his chest who was lying on the ground with no strength due to Alex's seastone weapon.
Shanks was breathing heavily. "Fuck, I almost killed you."
Alex laughed. "As if that would have killed me, I could have easily defended myself."
Shanks smiled. "That's not what my observation haki was telling me."
Alex shook his head. "If your haki was so good, you wouldn't have taken so long to snap out of it."
Shanks clicked his tongue. "You just got lucky."
The two looked at each other and laughed.
From across the water, Rayleigh whistled while looking through a telescope.
"What is it?" Gaban asked.
"Those two little shits just unlocked their observation haki." Rayleigh said as he laughed.
Gaban looked shocked before smiling. "One day those two might just surpass us."
Rayleigh smiled. "I hope so."
