"We could have taken him hostage, bring him ba…" she did not realize when he stopped moving and bumped into his hard back. She winced and staggered backward, "Why did you stop moving so abruptly?" she asked, twisting her face in pain.
He turned around sharply. "Do you think I am the villain here? Do you?" He held her arm.
She struggled to break free. When she realized that she was not getting anywhere with it, she gave up the fight. "Lucien, let go of my arm," she said firmly, staring him in the eye.
Lucien bobbed his head several times before finally letting her go. "I did what I thought was right in that situation. Had it been anyone else in my shoes, they would have done the same thing," he insisted, but his voice was lower now.
