Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Sky Camp

Yun Ling reached out to touch the wooden plaque, but her hand went right through it. It was like...what she saw was just an illusion and the plaque didn't actually exist.

However, as soon as she approached the token, the words in front of her changed to "Congratulations, player, you have arrived at your territory."

"After the game officially starts, you can name your territory."

"There are 3 minutes and 33 seconds until the start of the game."

The first thought that came to Yun Ling's mind was: could this holographic game become a reality?

The second thought was whether or not she should notify others.

But then she realized, who could she notify?

Her parents died in a car accident when she was in college, leaving her two houses and 800,000 yuan in compensation.

Her grandparents passed away when she was young.

She had only a few distant relatives left, but she lost contact with them after her parents died. Her old phone was stolen and she lost all the numbers she had saved.

Even if she could contact them, what could she say? Should she tell them that the world would turn into a game in 3 minutes and they should protect themselves?

If she guessed wrong, she would probably end up being sent to a mental hospital for treatment.

The numbers continued to count down until it finally said "1 minute and 12 seconds until start."

Yun Ling decided to patiently wait for the countdown to end.

What kind of world would it become? She would know in one minute.

"There are 3 seconds until start."

"...2 seconds."

"...1 second."

The countdown reached zero, and the sky suddenly rained down countless cards. White and blue cards covered the sky, with a few purple and orange cards mixed in.

Yun Ling looked up and saw that a beam of orange light had just landed in the nearby park.

The cards fell everywhere, floating in the air.

At the same time, countless balls of light fell from the sky.

The nearest ten or so balls of light landed on the ground and turned into green-skinned monsters holding wooden sticks. They attacked anyone they saw, clawing and biting viciously.

It was lunchtime, and there were many people on the street. In an instant, screams and cries for help filled the air.

At the same time, the system announced, "On April 1st at 12:00 PM, the 'End of Days Catastrophe' shockingly comes online!"

The character's attribute panel automatically appeared -

"Cloud Ling glanced at the attribute panel and closed it directly, saying, 'Set it to the same as during the public beta, there's nothing interesting to see.'

The system prompted, 'Detected that the player has a lord's token and is within the territory, would you like to use it?'

Cloud Ling chose 'yes.'

The system then asked, 'Please name your territory.'

Cloud Ling replied, 'Lingyun.'

The lord's token suddenly exploded with a dazzling white light, quickly expanding in all directions.

After a moment, the familiar camp appeared in front of Cloud Ling.

In the center was a stone campfire, and beside it was a warehouse. Other than that, it was empty.

The system congratulated, 'Congratulations on becoming the lord of Lingyun Camp.'

The system asked, 'Would you like to make your lord identity public?'

Cloud Ling chose 'no.'

Then, the territory attribute panel popped up.

"Establishment of Lingyun Camp (Level 1): With an area of 200 square meters, it can store various resources and extend the shelf life of food. (Note: The lord can set an access list to allow specific people to use it.)"

Finally, the system prompts, "Lingyun Camp has just been established and enjoys a 10-day novice protection period. During this period, no creature is allowed to attack the territory. After 10 days, the territory may be attacked at any time, so players should be prepared in advance."

"10 days? That's enough." Yun Ling decided not to set an access list, as the camp's warehouse was equivalent to the lord's private warehouse.

She was about to go home and move her daily necessities into the camp's warehouse. However, she changed her mind and decided to first go to the park to look for orange cards. In the early stages of the game, there weren't many people who dared to break into other people's homes, but missing out on the orange card in the park could mean losing it to someone else.

"Run!" Zheng Mingyue pulled his girlfriend You Qingwen and ran for their lives.

They were white-collar workers in an office building, and they had arranged to have lunch with their colleagues. However, just as the food was served, five green-skinned monsters, about the height of a meter, rushed in.

The monsters had sharp teeth in their mouths and held wooden sticks in their hands, making them difficult to deal with.

One of their colleagues was a gaming enthusiast and was delighted to see the green-skinned monsters. "Aren't these goblins? They look so real."

As he spoke, he walked up and reached out to touch one, trying to see what material their clothes were made of.

Unexpectedly, as soon as he got close, the green-skinned monster swung its wooden stick and hit him hard on the head.

The colleague fell to the ground, lifeless.

The customers were bewildered, "Is this an impromptu performance? It's not real, right?"

The waiter panicked and called the police, while the boss tried his best to distance himself, "This wasn't our arrangement... We don't know what's going on either..."

Before he could finish explaining, the green-skinned monsters grinned and looked for new targets.

Many customers were scared out of their wits, their eyes dull and their reactions slow, not knowing what to do.

The green-skinned monsters brandished their sticks, showing their teeth and looking particularly fierce.

The thick smell of blood spread throughout the restaurant.

Someone suddenly realized, "These goblins are not people pretending to be monsters, they are real monsters!"

Upon hearing this, a young man immediately grabbed a chair and smashed it towards the green-skinned creature. At the same time, he shouted loudly, "There are more of us than them, we don't need to be afraid!"

There were many young adults in the restaurant who raised their chairs and started smashing them around.

One of the green-skinned monsters was hit, the wooden club slipped from its grasp, and the entire monster fell to the ground. However, within a few seconds, it stood up again and fiercely pounced on the people, ignoring the lost club.

"These green-skinned dwarves can't be killed! Run away quickly!" Faced with the terrifying appearance and immense strength of the green-skinned monsters, someone shouted in despair and ran out the door.

Zheng Mingyue saw the situation quickly deteriorating and hurriedly pulled You Qingwen away.

He thought to himself that he couldn't help, so it was better to go out and find the police.

He originally thought that the monster that had invaded the restaurant was an exception, but after going out, he discovered that there were monsters everywhere.

Zheng Mingyue panicked, and only knew to pull his girlfriend and run for their lives. As for where to run to be safe, he had no idea.

"Run, we can't stop." You Qingwen, who usually lacked exercise, couldn't catch her breath after a while.

Zheng Mingyue became anxious, "We can't stop! The monsters will catch up!"

"Running is useless." Suddenly, a voice came from ahead.

"What should we do?!" Zheng Mingyue was annoyed. "Are we supposed to just sit and wait for death?"

Yun Ling pointed at a card floating in mid-air, "Do you see the cards floating around? Pick them up, confirm their use, and you can get skills or equipment. Arm yourself, kill the small monsters you encounter, and you'll be safe."

After speaking, she didn't stop and continued walking forward.

"On the way to the park, sometimes you will encounter refugees, and she will remind them. As for how many people are willing to listen to advice and how many can survive, it depends on their destiny."

"A card? What is it? What is it for?" Zheng Mingyue was still in a daze.

Only then did he notice that there were white cards scattered around, mysteriously floating in the air. But when he turned around to ask more questions, the person who had reminded him had already walked far away.

Yu Qingwen was exhausted and decided to give up running. "I don't think that girl is a bad person, so let's listen to her," she said.

Zheng Mingyue was hesitant, but ultimately decided to pick up a white card that was nearby. Suddenly, a panel appeared before him with the message, "You have obtained the C-level 'Charge' skill. Are you sure you want to use it?"

Note 1: Skill cards can be used, but not taken away. Note 2: Each player only has four skill slots, so choose carefully. Note 3: After learning a skill, you become a player and your body will be digitized.

Skills? Digitized bodies? Isn't this just like a game?

Zheng Mingyue was skeptical and discussed with his girlfriend.

"When we were eating, I heard a voice in my ear saying something about 'End Times Catastrophe Online.' Could it be related to this?" Yu Qingwen said, finally catching on.

Zheng Mingyue was shocked. "You heard it too? I thought someone among my colleagues was talking about a new game..."

"Only the deceased Lao Zhao was a gaming fan. The others are busy making money and don't even have enough time to sleep, let alone know about new games," Yu Qingwen said with a scoff.

Zheng Mingyue hesitated for a while before making a decision. "Let's go! We'll each pick two skills and go back to save people!"

"Save people? Just the two of us?" Yu Qingwen was extremely skeptical.

In her opinion, the two of them were more likely to be delivering heads than saving people.

"After learning skills, we should be able to handle it," Zheng Mingyue said helplessly. "It's dangerous for us to go anywhere alone. If we go back to the restaurant and rescue people, we can form a team with the survivors. That's safer."

"Fine, let's go back," Yu Qingwen thought about it for a while but couldn't come up with a better plan, so she gritted her teeth and agreed.

Although Yun Ling was a public beta player, his situation was not much better than the others.

Leveling up by fighting monsters was easy during the beta because he had complete equipment and the "Thorn Aura" skill. When attacked, 30% of the damage was automatically reflected.

As she dodged the skill attacks of her opponent, her health points dwindled rapidly. She only had one skill, "Nature's Heart," which doubled her healing effects, but it had no offensive capabilities. She could pick up other skill cards, but her skill slots were limited, and she didn't want to waste them unless necessary.

After ten minutes of searching through seventeen cards, Yun Ling finally found an equipment card.

[Name: Cloth Shoes]

Quality: Common

Effect: Agility +1.

This was the most common and lowest-tier white equipment with only a slight attribute bonus, but it was better than nothing.

The system panel appeared in a timely manner, asking, [You have obtained "Cloth Shoes" equipment. Are you sure you want to use it?]

[Note 1: There are no profession distinctions in the game, and all equipment is universal.]

[Note 2: Each player has six equipment slots and can change equipment at any time.]

[Note 3: After equipping equipment, you will officially become a player, and your body will be digitized.]

After two seconds, Note 3 disappeared, and the text changed to, [Survivors in the open beta will automatically become players when the game officially starts.]

"How could I not take an equipment card after searching for so long?" Yun Ling selected "Yes."

The card disappeared, and two new cloth shoes appeared in front of her. She quickly put them on and felt her body become lighter and faster, able to run with more agility.

Coincidentally, two goblins were approaching from behind. Without hesitation, Yun Ling ran away.
