Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Feng Jin Huang

"Has Fang Yuan arrived?"

"No my lady, he hasn't."

Feng Jin Huang frowned and looked around the soulless hall. Horrid, all of it. Filled with ugly marble statues of muscular men and voluptuous women. Each had their own unique features, scruffy beards and shining jewelry, nasty scars and thin waists, broad shoulders and plump lips. These statues depicted the heroes of old who had founded this sect known as...

What was this sect called again?

Feng Jin Huang smiled. Did it really matter? Sects all had ridiculous names and imagery associated with them. Whether it was made of gold or silver, in the shape of a lotus or heart, none of that mattered. Sigils, emblems, titles and tapestry. All of it was nothing more than vain decoration to fulfill one's desires for recognition.

"What I will do here today will have more significance than this sect will have in it's entire existence." Her voice was extremely confident, so much so that even though her servant didn't understand, she smiled along with her.

"I'm sure you'll achieve great things my lady. Just like your parents."

"Just like my parents?"

Her servant caught the edge in her tone and lowered her head. "Greater than your parents. One day everyone in Central Continent will know your name, Feng Jin Huang, the Generational Fairy."

"No, not just Central Continent." Feng Jin Huang rose her head to the glass dome above with a brilliant smile. "Even the heavens and earth will bear witness to the rise of Feng Jin Huang."

"That is perhaps the single most arrogant thing I have ever heard a mortal utter."

Feng Jin Huang looked back and saw him, Fang Yuan, dressed in a light robe and followed by a large pet fox with fur the colors of autumn. He silently strode through the hall, handing the leash in his hands off to her frozen servant.

"She isn't yours to take care of your pets."

"Oh?" Fang Yuan raised an eyebrow. "Is she your slave? Didn't think members of the righteous path were allowed those."

"Slavery is an immoral act. I condemn Gu immortals that commit such heinous atrocities."

"Then you should probably go and condemn half the Gu immortal population of Central Continent. I bet more than half hold variant humans captive."

Feng Jin Huang gained a curious expression. "Do you believe variant humans are the same as humans? None of the other Gu immortals I've talked to think the same way as me."

"Does something need to be a human for it to be a slave? Are other life forms not deserving of freedom?" Fang Yuan returned her question with another question. "There's a quote from a famous leader back where I used to live, those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves."

Fang Yuan smiled. "Is there any Gu immortal alive that has not oppressed or enslaved others?"

Feng Jin Huang kept silent to herself before confidently raising a thumb to her chest. "Trust me. I will be the first. Once I become a Gu immortal things will change in Central Continent."

Fang Yuan laughed. "I'm sure the first Venerable thought the same thing. His reign brought an age of peace for humanity, but it wiped out several races and brought billions gruesome deaths and dismal futures for generations to come."

"I'm different from every person that's come before me." Feng Jin Huang's smile never faded. Her violet eyes shining with unwavering confidence. "You will see in the future Fang Yuan. You will see what the future Dream Venerable is capable of."

"Still, I'm surprised. Never took an opportunistic criminal like you to be an activist fighting for variant human rights."

"Criminal?" Fang Yuan put his hand against his heart. "Did Hu Immortal blessed land belong to the sects of Central Continent? As far as I'm aware, poor Hu never had any descendants. Now I faithfully keep her blessed land and the bastards of Central Continent dare label me a criminal?"

Feng Jin Huang laughed into the palm of her hand. "I really wish you weren't a demonic path cultivator. You have some interesting ideas Fang Yuan."

"Does it really matter?" Fang Yuan extended his hand to her with a mocking smile. "Are cultivators of the demonic path all villainous people deserving of death? Are cultivators of the righteous path all heroes deserving of praise?"

"If people were so black and white than someone like me wouldn't need to exist in this world." Feng Jin Huang took Fang Yuan's hand and walked with him through the hall. "I wasn't kidding when I said what I said. Central Continent will change once I rise to power."

"And how exactly do you plan on doing that?"

"By recruiting allies with like-minded ideals to my cause. Hopefully I could change the hearts of lost individuals without a sense of purpose in the world. Maybe even you could join Spirit Affinity House?"

"I don't know. You'd have to entice me to join. I don't exactly like the Gu immortals of Central Continent."

"I'm sure we can come to some type of agreement. I still haven't forgotten that duel you promised Fang Yuan. We can make conditions based on who loses and who wins the duel."

"Hmm...okay. How about this. If I lose to you, I'll join Spirit Affinity House and concede Hu Immortal blessed land to you."

Feng Jin Huang raised an eyebrow. Was Fang Yuan really that confident he would win?

"But if I win, Spirit Affinity House will have to create a new trade agreement with me for Guts Gu, and you will owe me one debt in the future."

"Fang Yuan. You're really overestimating yourself. Don't think of me as a pushover." Feng Jin Huang let go of Fang Yuan's hand and smacked him in the chest. "Be careful not to lose Hu Immortal blessed land."

Fang Yuan laughed and leaned into Feng Jin Huang's ear. "You should be scared of what request I'll have for you after I win."
