Another day full of experiments and challenges. Another day another batch of kids disappear or dies. It was the same thing for Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, every single day.
However instead of being in his room, or his training room. He was...inside his Father's Office. He was alone. However not for long because the big double doors opened and in came his father.
With a child in his hands.
He was curious who the child was. Although he somewhat looks familiar. Their eyes were the almost the same, along with our hair color. However, the only differences are the child has longer hair, innocent eyes, and much more feminine compared to him. For others, he knew they will think that the child was a girl but...he doesn't know why but he can feel that the child is a boy despite the numerous signs that made the child look like a girl.
The child seems calm, but he can tell that the child was nervous and scared from the way the child's eyes looked around and his tiny, clenched hands trembling. They both stopped in front of him. His father's face is still the same, no expression that can give away any information as to why he was called and why was a child here.
"Meet your younger twin. He is a new addition here but...he'll be living differently than you and the others. His name is...Kiyoshi" His father told him, before pushing Kiyoshi, who was slightly distracted, rather harshly towards him.
Kiyoshi was startled when he was suddenly pushed, and so he tripped, and Ayanokoji suddenly extended his arms and caught him. Ayanokoji was surprised at what he did. What was more surprising was...he felt relief for some unknown reason. While Kiyoshi immediately tightened his arms around Ayanokoji's waist.
Unbeknownst to the two distracted children, their father looked at them with a certain glint in his eyes after he finally knew what to do with Kiyoshi. So, he left them after telling them that Kiyoshi will be living with Ayanokoji, and they have the whole two days for themselves.
'The sooner their trust on each other grows, the easier it is to start the experiment.'
As the door closes after their father left, Kiyoshi was finally able to look up. He couldn't do so before because he felt how dangerous and ruthless his father was. However, what he didn't expect was for Ayanokoji to hug him tighter.
Meanwhile Ayanokoji was also surprised. The second he felt Kiyoshi moved, he suddenly felt a sense of panic and at the back of his mind a voice was telling him to not let go and his body subconsciously tighten his hold.
"Uhm...since you don't want to let me go. Can we at least sit? My legs feel tired and sore after walking at Father's speed for about 3 hours." Kiyoshi said after feeling that his twin wouldn't let go of him which gave him the feeling of comfort, relief and content.
Ayanokoji hummed before he suddenly carried Kiyoshi by holding his bum. Kiyoshi was startled and let out a yelp before he wrapped his arms around his twin's neck. Kiyoshi was surprised by his twin's strength, but he felt a sense of security.
Ayanokoji sat on the couch with Kiyoshi in his lap. Ever since Kiyoshi came in, Ayanokoji had never felt...better. He never got any interest, intention, care, and even emotion before he met Kiyoshi, but he suddenly felt numerous emotions at once. He was a overwhelmed since he doesn't know what to do with them.
So, he just followed what he...felt he wants to do. Meanwhile, Kiyoshi observed his twin's expression. Well, he couldn't tell with his face but luckily, he can sense emotions and he can see what his twin felt through his eyes.
"So...what's your name? Father didn't tell me. I want to know more about you!" Kiyoshi asked Ayanokoji, who snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Kiyoshi speak. He was silent for a second, contemplating on what to say and what not to say.
"I'm...Ayanokoji Kiyotaka...you can call me however you want and...uhm...I'm 6 years old. I don't have anything like talent or hobbies, but I do hope we could get along" Ayanokoji said, after a moment of silence. This introduction made Kiyoshi giggle. Meanwhile Ayanokoji was confused on what Kiyoshi found funny.
"Then I'll call you Taka-nii!! Well, it's my turn! My name is Ayanokoji Kiyoshi, and you can call me however you want, just not my last name... I don't like it...Anyways I'm also 6 years old. I like sweets, spicy food, cute things, drawing, and many more. I don't like many things including Father" Kiyoshi said with a cute smile.
Ayanokoji subconsciously began remembering what Kiyoshi likes and began thinking about what to call him. He was expecting for himself to be content with the name Kiyoshi, but his subconscious has another name in mind, that he surprisingly blurted out without thinking.
"Bunny"
Silence. That was what Ayanokoji heard after he accidentally said what his subconscious wanted to call Kiyoshi. This made Ayanokoji felt weird. His face was getting warmer by the second, he also felt fidgety and a sudden panic. This was noticed by Kiyoshi who was distracted by his own shyness.
"I like it. It's cute. But why?" Kiyoshi asked, genuinely curious about the nickname. This made Ayanokoji silent. He didn't even know why he thought of that. Thankfully, Kiyoshi is not in rush, so he waited for his older twin's answer while he hugs him.
After a while, Ayanokoji decided to admit that couldn't think what reason he gave Kiyoshi that nickname but he felt Kiyoshi's light breathing and when he pulled away slightly, he saw that Kiyoshi was asleep. So, he stood up, carrying Kiyoshi, who hugged him like a koala.
He went out of his father's office only to meet his examiner who led him back to his room. As the door closes, he laid Kiyoshi on his own bed. He noticed that it was bigger than before, so he knew his father changed his bed. For now, he doesn't know what his father is planning with him or Kiyoshi, but he had a feeling that if he gets too close to him, something will happen.
So, he decided to only talk to him, if necessary, completely forgetting about his actions earlier. He laid down on the other side of the bed and slept. Unbeknownst to him that Kiyoshi moved and hugged him, while he hugged back unknowingly.
— 5 Months Later
It's had been 5 months after that day. Kiyoshi was beginning to feel unwanted. He always feels mixed emotions from his twin, but what stood out the most was suspicion and caution. He thought they were good since he gave a good impression, but he was wrong.
But he didn't give up. He ignores the suspicion and caution his twin feels for him and instead focused on the mixture of confusion, doubt, sadness, anger etc. He always wakes up with a smile and greeted Ayanokoji with an immediate hug. He also accompanies Ayanokoji whenever he is on a break since Kiyoshi doesn't have anything to do except accompanying Ayanokoji.
However, one day, Ayanokoji woke up without the presence of Kiyoshi. He felt strange when he noticed. But he ignored it because of his upcoming schedule for today. Subconsciously, he would always look behind or beside him or even call out his name unknowingly.
One time, he even heard his name being called but he thought it was Kiyoshi so when turned around and called his name, he was surprised to see that it was one of the scientists. When he noticed how Kiyoshi never appeared even once for a month, he suddenly felt heavy, and he constantly thought about Kiyoshi. He finally came to terms that he missed Kiyoshi and his feelings for him.
After a 2 months of feeling sad and lonely, he woke up and saw Kiyoshi's face. He sat up immediately and when he looked at him again, his delighted feeling was replaced with horror. Kiyoshi's unblemished skin was full of cuts, bruises, patches, bandages, and he saw heavy eyebags on his face.
He wanted to touch him to see if he is in a nightmare or dream. But when he touched Kiyoshi's cheek, avoiding his cuts, he suddenly flinched and opened his eyes. This startled Ayanokoji who retreated his hand afraid of accidentally touching any injuries if Kiyoshi moved.
"Taka-nii? Did I wake you up?" Kiyoshi asked, his voice hoarse and quiet. This made Ayanokoji feel worse. He watched as Kiyoshi sat up, flinching every now and then. After he sat up, Kiyoshi looked at him and smiled brightly like what he looks like was only a hallucination.
"...what...happened to you? where were you...did father did something?" Ayanokoji couldn't help but ask. He wanted to know why he disappeared for a 3 months and what happened to him for Kiyoshi to come back bruised up. The questions made Kiyoshi tensed up, he tried to come up with a lie for unknown reasons, but he couldn't come up with any, so he decided to the everything that happened the whole week.
"Father told me he was getting impatient with how our relationship is so he decided to change his plans for me since I couldn't seem to get close to you. I agreed since I didn't want you to be caught up with whatever experiment has for us. He trained me physically, academically, and even medically. He tested different kinds of liquids in my body, maybe to see what effects it has on me or if I can endure what will happen to me. I just got back a few minutes ago, he decided to let give me a second chance and let me stay here with you for another week...that's all" Kiyoshi ended with a hiss because he touched his bruised forehead accidentally. The explanation made Ayanokoji feel guilty for the first time. He wordlessly stood up from the bed and grabbed his med kit before properly treating Kiyoshi's cuts and bruises.
After treating Kiyoshi, Ayanokoji noticed that he was an hour late to his lessons, but nobody came to get him. He concluded that his father excused him for today. He looked at Kiyoshi who was sleepy, he decided to gently lay him down and tucked him in. He stood up and planned to read something, but he was pulled down by Kiyoshi who snuggled with his arm and mumbled for him to lay down with him. He followed since he didn't think that Kiyoshi would let go soon. While he is laying down with a sleeping Kiyoshi on his side, he began analyzing Kiyoshi.
He knew that every human has something to hide, a side or secret that can taint or ruin their reputation. But this is the first time he saw an untainted soul. This 5 months with Kiyoshi, he saw who he is. He is a blunt, honest, empathetic, and kindhearted child. A total opposite of him. Just the thought of it gave him the feeling of wanting to protect him from the impurities of the world as long as he can but he knows that is illogical considering their current situation
He snapped out of it when he felt Kiyoshi move his head to his chest, he looked down to see Kiyoshi's peaceful face, unknowingly making him smile slightly. He wrapped an arm around Kiyoshi before he snuggled his face into his soft hair, and soon he fell asleep once again. This time, his dream wasn't filled with the thoughts of Kiyoshi disappearing instead it was filled with Kiyoshi being by his side in the future.
—Two Years Later
Two years had passed ever since Ayanokoji decided to protect Kiyoshi. However that feeling of being a protector became more as he spend time with Kiyoshi. He slowly began craving his attention, his care, his smile, and his presence. He was very confused but he decided to ignore it so he can enjoy being with Kiyoshi. However ever since that day when Kiyoshi returned full of bruises, it became a frequent occurance and when Ayanokoji ask Kiyoshi, he always say the same thing so he deicded to ask his Father about it, without the knowledge of Kiyoshi.
So here he is, inside his Father's office once again but without Kiyoshi by his side because he is in his 'training'. His father is sitting down on his desk while staring at him while he stare back. Silence settled inside the room. Atsuomi, Ayanokoji's father, stared at his son with an unknown glint in his eyes. He knew why his son is here, because he heard from his son's examiner about his actions.
"Professor. I know that you know why am I here. Now tell me, what are you doing with Kiyoshi?" Ayanokoji asked, his voice laced with hostility and caution. He needed to know what is his father doing with his twin. His twin's body gets bruised more each day passes but he still smiled at him like nothing is happening even though he knew something is happening.
"...It is actually none of your business, Kiyotaka. However since you hold him dear to you, I'll tell you a bit of information. He is training his body to be resistant and strong enough for the mutation process when he reached the age of 12" Atsuomi told his son, whose eyes became mortified. He couldn't believe what his father is telling him.
'My twin was brought here to be....mutated?! Does he know?! Is that why he isn't telling me about his training? There's no way I'm going to let that happen!!' Ayanokoji thought to himself, his stoic expression slowly broke as unbelievable anger took over.
Meanwhile, Atsuomi watched his son expressed his emotion for the first time. He now knew that the experiment is starting now. He'll let his son trust his twin, love him, and even fall for him then he'll take him away so suddenly that it will break his son and completely lose his emotions. Tools doesn't need emotions, what they need is someone to use them.
"Did he know?! Why are you even planning to mutate him?! What are you planning!?" Ayanokoji shouted at his unfazed father, angering him more. He never felt so much anger before. Not when he was the one getting trained to the limit, not when children are dropping like flies, not when he is getting treated as a subject.
But when it comes to Kiyoshi, his emotions spike up and he never knew how to deal with them. He only knew how to deal some of it because of Kiyoshi. He can feel because of him, he can control it because of him. Everything revolves around him. He just realized, that ever since the day they met, his whole being began to revolve around him.
"That is none of your business-"
"It is!! He is my brother! My twin!! Whatever happens to him, I need to know!!"
"Why?"
"Because...because.."
"Even if he is your twin, you two are separate beings, with your own lives and own secrets. If he didn't tell you about this then what right do I have to tell you?"
Ayanokoji stayed silent. He sees some truth about what his father said. His anger was replaced with doubt. Doubt about his brother's trust in him. Does his brother even trust him enough to tell him everything? Does his brother even trust him after what he made him feel the first months they were together?
"Now go back. If you miss your next class you know what punishment comes with it" Atsuomi said before calling his son's personal examiner, who immediately came in and dragged Ayanokoji out of his office.
Meanwhile Kiyoshi had just finished his training, tired but excited to see his twin. However when he got there he saw no one so he assumed that his brother is still in his training and decided to treat his injuries before going to bed and take a nap.
After a 2 hours, Ayanokoji came back and saw his twin sleeping. The sight made him smile. His anger, doubt and frustration disappeared. He approached his brother and sat down on the bed beside him, his small hand touches his twin's smaller hand, before he gripped it, tight enough to not hurt him.
"Do you even trust me, Kiyoshi? I know I can't do much in your situation but...can't you atleast let me know? I didn't expect myself to say this but...it hurts me when you kept it a secret from me" Ayanokoji whispered before he laid down and hugged Kiyoshi, being mindful of the injuries he gained.
"I'm sorry, Nii-san. I didn't want you to worry about me since you already have enough burden from everyones expectations and your training" Kiyoshi whispered, breaking the silence in the room. This surprised Ayanokoji since he thought he was asleep. But he went back to what he said and his unsettled heart, calmed down.
"It's okay. I won't consider your situation a burden, Kiyoshi. Just done keep anything from me anymore, okay? And don't leave me again..." Ayanokoji said making Kiyoshi smile before nodding his head. Kiyoshi wasn't satisfied with his nod as a response so he promised too.
"I promise I won't leave you again, Nii-san" Kiyoshi promised to Ayanokoji before he snuggled into his arms and began getting sleepy again. Ayanokoji saw this and a miniscule smile graced his lips while his eyes are full of trust and love.
"Good night Nii-san. I love you♥︎"
"Mhm...Me too. Good night, Kiyoshi..."
