Chapter 13: First Night

"You're from out of town, sir?" the lanky man—the innkeeper presumably—asked as they ascended the stairs. Cybele followed from close behind with jaunty hops.

"Yes. Is it obvious?"

"Haha, indeed. It is a consequence of my job to recognize foreigners at first glance." He then shifted his eyes to the big bizarre-looking thing strapped to Senna's back. "I must say, that is quite a strange weapon, sir. I've met many adventurers during my years, but this is the first time I see one such as yours."

That would make sense. It would be way creepier if the innkeeper somehow said he saw it before.

As a Taxi Driver, Senna held the exclusive right as the owner of the unique item Bumper Sword, the only one in the whole world.

Or at least, he believed so.

"And the little fellow? Is he your traveling companion?" Now looking at Cybele, he threw out that question.

"Ah, it's a she. But, companion huh… I guess so. I found her on the road and she took quite a liking to me," answered Senna honestly. Although he kept the whole sentient, magical, and transforming into a woman part secret.

"Oh, that sounds fun. Not many travelers brought pets like dogs with them. It's an additional mouth to feed, after all. If there is anyone who'd be bringing animals with them, they had to be Tamers."

"Tamer?"

"Adventurer who specializes in controlling beasts into battle. I've had a few of them as guests before. I'd tell you, it was the most troublesome thing." The innkeeper laughed wryly as he recalled the experience.

He told them they often train animals like big cats and dogs, which was problematic in their own ways, but the most troublesome guest he ever had was this one tamer who brought a massive two-and-a-half-meter tall black bear into the inn.

He had to spend hours convincing that tamer to use the stable in the backyard for the bear's accommodation. With all that said, the ordeal was exhausting enough that the innkeeper still vividly remembered it within his memories.

'He kept mentioning adventurer this and adventurer that…' Senna contemplated. The occupation was a staple in contemporary fantasy stories.

If his assumption was correct, they should also exist in this world.

They had unknowingly reached Senna's rented room while they chatted. It was the second to last one on the third-floor corridor.

"Here it is. Please check whether the room is to your liking." The innkeeper unlocked the door and gestured for Senna to come in. "If any problem or anything is missing, feel free to call me, Tian, from downstairs."

Finally learning his name, Senna wordlessly nodded as he walked into the room. The interior was clean and reasonably spacious, fitted with ample furniture while not appearing too cluttered.

There was a simple bed near the corner, close to the window. A small cupboard was placed beside it for the guest to use. Across from them, a medium-sized wooden cupboard stood tall against the wall.

Besides all those convenient furnishings, there was also a small round table with a few chairs present.

"It looks good," Senna commented. Of course, it was pale in comparison to the modern hotels he knew of, but since he was now stuck in the medieval age, this much accommodation seemed sufficient enough.

"Thank you. Then I will be going. This here's the key," Tian said and offered the iron key. "Oh, before I go…"

He took out a patchy-looking booklet from somewhere. The inn register, if Senna we're to guess. "Your name, sir?"

"Farron, Senna. Uh, I mean, Senna Farron."

"Senna… Farron, is it? Alright, it's done. I hope you enjoy staying with us, Mr. Farron." The innkeeper politely bowed and left the room.

"Wow, we got our own room!" Cybele, quiet until now, finally spoke up. She happily ran around the bedroom checking various things out.

"Hey, don't break anything." Warning the boisterous dog, Senna took off his slung Bumper Sword, the Steering Chakram dangling beside his hip, and the plastic bag containing the food and colas he'd been carrying around.

Leaning the greatsword against the wall, he put everything else at the top of the cupboard, including the robber's knife he decided to bring along.

He took a seat on the bed, "Dang," and immediately fell on his back to the mattress.

Finally, he could take a breather. It had been half a day since he died and got reincarnated. During those hours, he was assaulted by monstrous gorillas and ferocious tigers, lost his prized Avalon, met a gamer God and a talking truck, then after that, a talking dog.

It was too much suspense and thriller for one person to cope. Senna's brain was mostly running on a resigned autopilot, fully accepting whatever bizarre events happening to him and letting his actions flow freely according to them.

And, hey, he also almost got killed several times, though he knew that he already died once.

"Yeah, that… Sis?" Senna called the voice in his mind. It had been quite a while since she showed itself.

«What is your need?»

Good. She hadn't disappeared on him randomly. With his luck, that may very well be a possibility. "Can I check the status window?"

«Opening Status…»

Senna saw that both his Health and Mana had completely recovered. "Though I still feel tired as heck… Guess that means recovering mana doesn't mean recovering my fatigue."

Then a term on his sub-class entry caught his eye. "Wait, Mechanic? Since when did I get this thing?"

Focusing on it, a description window appeared.

< Sub Class: Mechanic >

< A complement class received for successfully salvaging the destroyed Avalon. Provides the ability to manipulate the specifications of Divine Vessels manifested. Details on which are set according to the mana used. Make your scooter run like like a motocross. >

Unlike the ones before, the explanation was a bit vague. Just what exactly were these specifications mentioned? Could Senna increase the performance of his summoned vehicles?

"Sen! The view is so cool, let's go explore the city!" Cybele repeatedly jumped to see the scenery from the window which was too high for her.

«Notice: Quest complete. The Mystic Wolf Cybele successfully delivered to a human settlement. Reward: 10 PP.»

"Woah?!" Senna suddenly sat back up in surprise. "Seriously, 10?"

The same amount for defeating either two bloodthirsty Spotted Tigers, five Baron Silverbacks, or a whopping ten Knight Silverbacks.

All for a mere transport of a dog to a human city.

"This is crazy." He mused, a grin starting to form on his face. "I can make do with this…"

Simply being a delivery man could strengthen Senna's power rapidly. The distance between where he received Cybele's quest and Kyllian was traversable only with a few hours of walking—even quicker with cycling—but the reward was enormous in exchange.

Just how many PPs he could get if he did a long-haul quest? The grin was starting to get creepy.

"Sen, what's with you?" The Siberian Husky asked in concern.

"Nothing. Just got a motivation boost, is all."

Senna decided. Tomorrow morning he would search the town to find out if he could get a transport job. The farther the distance, the better.

"Sorry, Bel. We'll explore tomorrow morning." He already made a nickname for the dog, whose actual name was in reality created by him. Truly a habit that would stay for the foreseeable future.

"Ceh. Why not today?"

"The day's about to be over. We humans got this thing called a daily schedule, see? At night, we rest. It'll be more fun to do it when the humans are active, right?"

The logic he asserted was sound, even for the dog, so Cybele could only agree in compliance.

"Fine."

"Good. Oh, I'm gonna go downstairs for a bit. Seems like I can ask for meals at that lobby." He remembered those tough dudes happily chowing away at the food on the tables. "Wanna come along?"

"Will the food be as good as yours?"

"Huh? No idea, how'd I know that?" Turning around to the leftover junk food in the plastic bag, it came to him. "You can eat it all now, honestly. My survival problem has already been resolved."

"I'd like that! Alright, I'll stay here," the dog took her choice.

"Then I won't lock the door. Go bark loudly if anyone tried to enter, alright?" No idea why he even entertained that possibility. The inn seemed to be secure enough.

Leaving Cybele alone to enjoy her chickens and pizza, Senna left his room. Descending the stairs, it took him no time to arrive in the dining hall.

There, behind the counter, stood Lenna happily talking with the rowdy patrons. The smile adorning her face was rightfully angelic.
