Chapter 64: The Polished Present (2)

With an indifferent expression on his face, Troi looked through the glass window of the transit as it rumbled its way through the academy.

From a glance, he looked deep in thought as he sat on the steel seat while fiddling a seemingly normal object with his right hand.

Gwen stared at the man lost in thought.

Hair barely groomed and deep-sunken eyes.

It was clear he did not have an ounce of a good night's sleep.

'Just how traumatized he could be?'

Gwen thought to herself as even her voice could not snap Troi out of his mind.

So she opened her mouth to try again.

"Hello?"

Yet for the second time, the brown eyes of the man did not gaze away from the window.

She felt quite troubled.

'Maybe, it's quite rude of me to ask him about the event'

Gwen wanted more details about the article she read last night while lying in her soft bed.

Two assassins of equal strength were able to infiltrate and decimate the security of the Coldfeathers then fought viciously in the great hall.

There were a lot of nobles who were caught in the middle but surprisingly not a single one died.

It seemed the strength of the coldfeathers did not melt away in time.

Gwen normally did not care about these types of things, but a small section of the article piqued her interest.

"It was reported that the assassin who called himself 'The Unseen Threat' reportedly wielded a type of pistol an armament from the past"

'He wielded a gun?'

Gwen was left confused and a little bit shocked.

So she tried to get more information.

She stayed way past her bedtime to read the countless articles about it yet she still wasn't satisfied.

There was a lot of information about the other assassin.

A girl in her 20s with black hair and blue eyes cloaked in grey with black tendrils and the ability to turn invisible.

Every piece of information about the Traceless Terror was revealed.

Yet the one shrouded in black and wore a metal mask.

Finding information about him was like looking at a needle in a haystack.

'Did the coldfeathers hide information about him?'

'If that is the case why?"

Gwen thought about that possibility and the more she did the more she got confused.

Revealing information about an assassin was one of the ways to make his/her job harder and make it much easier for them to be captured and dealt with.

Gwen scratched her head,

'They clearly did that with the Traceless Terror'

But for the Unseen Threat.

The only information that got out was that he was a man who wore a metal mask with a black trenchcoat and apparently wielded a gun.

'Was that assassin one of theirs?'

That was the only conclusion she had made.

For there was no other reason for them to deliberately hide him from the public.

Her mind then wandered to her younger years.

Nobles from other families.

They used guns as a way for them to be noticed by her as a rumor that she was interested in them got out.

But none truly caught her interest as not even a single one of them could apply their auras or mana towards them.

But that assassin who wore a metal mask was able to fight toe to toe with the Traceless Terror.

'He must be able to apply aura or mana to a gun'

Her family tried their best to cover up the rumor that the firstborn of the Lynines had an obsession with guns.

But apparently, her family did not do a good job as that rumor is still alive as she remembered a dark-skinned man from her class who tried to do the same.

'I think his name started with T?'

She then shook her head to try to forget about that man but,

'Didn't he and Wyatt attend that party?'

'I'll try to ask him tomorrow,"

That was the last thing Gwen said before letting the sweet embrace of slumber hold her.

But now in the present, she started to regret her decision to approach him as she noticed how unsettled he looked.

But the silver-haired girl did not know that Troi was more traumatized by what was happening in the present than what happened in the past.

'I WASN'T IMAGINING THINGS.'

'I WASN'T IMAGINING THINGS.'

'I WASN'T IMAGINING THINGS.'

Gwen let out a sigh but then her eyes widened.

The object that he was fiddling with was something she was familiar with.

It was small and made of copper.

A thing that was only used in the weapons of the old.

It was a bullet.

Yet one of her eyebrows then were raised as she noticed it had no more casings in it.

Indicating it had already been fired.

But before she could examine it much further.

Troi put it in one of his pockets and turned his gaze to her.

Troi who had no other choice was forced to use his skill [Mind of a Murderer] to calm his emotions.

"Oh, Hi,"

As Gwen got a clearer look on his face.

She started to regret her decision.

Beneath those brown eyes was that of someone who had no emotions.

No, that was the eyes of someone who didn't want to feel anything.

'Just how deeply traumatized he was...."

She then shook her head.

She was curious about what happened that night.

But she wasn't willing for a person to remember something he wanted to forget just to satisfy her curiosity.

"No, nothing, forget that I asked,"

She then started to walk to the back of the transit.

And sat on one of the steel seats.
