I was a man on a mission and as I approached the Takagi estate, I burned out all my frustrations at what had happened to all the zombies that got in my way.
"Uhm Jake, what are you going to do if Miss Takagi refuses to hand over Shido or let you get close?" Hina asked after seeing me kick a zombie hard enough into a concrete wall hard enough to shatter its spine preventing it from getting back up.
And to her question, I shrugged as she held onto my arm demurely as we walked across the road with zombies that would sometimes just ignore us but the ones who did notice us and run after me and Hina I swiftly killed.
"Come on Jake, you can't be expecting to just stroll in their stronghold kill a couple of people and just walk out, are you?" She asked blankly and I met her blue eyes before I spoke bluntly.
"If that's what's needed yes." I answered dully. This world was fucked I knew that all too clearly, sure other worlds with fantasy elements may be able to take an apocalyptic scenario and survive it. But already this world was completely fucked due to literally every single water source that wasn't heavily chemically treated to the point of being undrinkable, or actually boiled water being contaminated by the devil worms.
To say nothing of the kaiju monsters made out of the multi tons of biomass from people, animals, plants, and even insects that will be fused into monsters that even I was scared of.
That wasn't even getting into how the Devil Worms were in the water but every single animal we killed and tested had the worms within it as well but for whatever reason the worms couldn't hijack animal bodies to make them into killing machines like they could mutate human forms. So not only our water was contaminated but all our natural food was as well which was why we were still eating heavily processed food.
"Hina the world is fucked... I can't have some asshole who wants to watch the world burn come fuck up my little slice of heaven for whatever stupid reason he may have... No reason is good enough to destroy a camp's supplies and livelihood for another group." I said coldly.
Hina had no response to that and thus the rest of the walk to the Takagi estate was quiet except for the sounds of my axe or a boot crushing a zombie's head.
As we approached the Takagi estate however I raised an eyebrow as I saw how the people in the Takagi estate were defending their location. They had seemingly gotten four fire trucks and were using the high-pressure water streams very close to the zombies so the water pressure would blast into the zombie's heads that were pressing up against the estate's gates.
"Not that lethal of a solution but with the city still having power it works I suppose," I muttered as I saw three-quarters of the zombies get back onto their feet after being blasted by the water stream but either way with Hina standing behind me I began swinging my axe back and forth. Just taking two to three, sometimes even four heads off the shoulders of zombies that were ignoring me as they were interested in the loud sounds of the fire truck engines and the pressure washers that were helping compress the water.
Even with my 'Hunted' debuff that should have made zombies more attracted to me, in the end, the loud sounds of fire trucks and other compressors engines overpowered that little drawback allowing me to harvest the lives of a couple of dozen zombies before we reached the gates of the Takagi estate and then I grabbed Hina into my off arm and then boosting my form with the mystical energies within myself I leaped over the gate and landed inside the estate.
"Who are you and how did you fucking jump over the gate!" I heard someone roar and then I saw how one of the fire truck nozzles had turned to me.
"I am a friend of Saya Takagi and was sent to talk to her mother and father!" I yelled out and for a moment there was silence as the men in front of me stared hysterically laughing making my blood run cold as he spoke.
"Oh, Lady Takagi and the other ladies barricaded themselves in the estate's basement as they didn't want to... Contribute and as for Souichiro Takagi he unfortunately succumbed to a devil worm when his tea's water wasn't boiled long enough during the collapse." The man said carelessly and then he leaned on the nozzle of the large turret that held him up off the ground.
"But hey are you two here to join the group? Lord Shido will be so glad to have another survivor join... And I am sure that your girlfriend will love to join and be safe as well." He said and the way he was eye fucking my girl made me sigh before I realized something.
Shido had already mind fucked all these assholes into whatever doomsday cult he wanted to make... Gods I just wanted to kill all these bastards and be done with it, but a larger part of me was screaming that to just slaughter a bunch of crazyies was the wrong thing to do.
But before I could make up my mind the door to the mansion was violently thrown open and a teenager ran out screaming. "Kill him! Lord Shido ordered you all to kill him now with guns!" He roared and at that moment clarity came to me as I grabbed Hina like a discuss thrower I spun into the ground and launched her to land atop a large tent that caught her like a net as I dashed forward out of the spinning throw to dodge the hurriedly raised pistols and hunting rifles that were brought up from the walls of cages the people were using the water hoses on.
I called upon my mystical energies within myself and then with a deep inhale I put my hands together with my pointer and middle fingers put together. And then just before I exhaled, I dashed across from where I had taken cover, and then as I came into the open, my exhale had resulted in, a truck-sized large fireball coming out of my mouth that impacted the firetruck and in the resulting explosion of the fireball losing its cohesion I saw a window in the mansion slam shut making me grin as I inhaled again as I dashed around.
Within half a minute I had created a warzone of the fire truck's front cabs being burnt black with the chakra-enhanced flames I called upon and only when my throat started drying up due to my poor handling of my fire-aligned chakra did I stop lobbing large fireballs everywhere and switched back to my gun to pick off the panicking members of Shido's cult.
"You fucking monster die!" I heard a man scream as he hysterically ran at me with a cheap-looking machete you would get online and I just let him hit me with the dull machete on the shoulder as I shot another one of his friends that were trying to shoot me with a shotgun using slug rounds that actually did do some damage.
"How...?" The man whispered as he looked at his machete that did nothing to my leather jacket that was enhanced with Aura. Once I killed his friend wielding the shotgun I grabbed the man by his wrist and then I wrenched his arm up by the wrist and a sickeningly crunching noise rang out as I forced the machete through his throat and into his skill with the machete's long blade peaking out the top of his head, I dully realized I broke the man's wrist as well in the action.
"Seems to work plenty fine for me." I spat as I shot the last man outside and then I went to help Hina who was shivering as she killed someone who decided to take her hostage.
"Hina can you keep going," I asked bluntly as I held her chin to make her blue eyes look into mine and she blinked several times before she swallowed loudly... And then again, and then I sighed as I held her hair back so she could puke on the man she killed with her masonry hammer.
"Yes... I am strong now arent I Jake? I can be useful like Saeko?." She said weakly and I just pulled her face into my jacket for a brief hug before I looked into her eyes and nodded.
"Yes, you are strong Hina... I need you to take this and keep everyone inside the mansion. Don't let anyone that isn't me out." I ordered as I handed her a shotgun that one of the men was using as well as giving her a box of a couple dozen more rounds. "I am going to clear out the rest... Don't let anyone leave as we cannot let them come burn down our settlement for some kind of revenge." I finished tiredly and she swallowed but nodded in understanding while hefting the gun.
And thanks to Kohta Hirano the gun nut teaching people the basics of most guns she knew how to handle it, and thanks to her aura she would have the strength to deal with the recoil.
I had learned my lesson by letting Shido go before, so I slowly and methodically worked my way up from the ground floor of the mansion upwards and as I entered the rooms I dealt with all the men and told the woman even the ones who tried to attack me to stay where they were so the other women could vet them.
Some men and women I didn't need to kill as some literally slit their own throats or likewise shot themselves at the mere sight of me and likewise, some of them completely surrendered with a couple of the women saying how a couple of the men had taken some of the women under their wing and protected them from the complete predations of the group and Shido's cult. Due to those men having their own guns and taking care of their own supplies.
So those people I didn't mess with and had them go down to ground level while I ascended to the final floor of the mansion. Finally, with tired finality in my movements, I threw open a large door leading into a well-decorated and fancy office/reading room with bookshelves lining the walls, and sitting at the helm of the desk was the rat in question.
"I don't suppose you could wait for me to finish could you?" He asked smiling wryly and as I approached I saw the fucking rat bastard had one of the teenager girls that went with his group bobbing her head in his lap but then my mind went blank as I realized just how fucking crazy Shido was.
"What happened to her eyes... No that's not just it." I whispered as bile rose up inside me as I stared at the hollow pits where her eyes were supposed to be and Shido manically giggled.
"Oh yes, we found out that the more crippling we do to people of their human-level senses make the Devil Worms completely more and more uninterested in the humans as a host and thus we made the cattle completely immune to the infection! Not only that but Jake. With your help, we believe that such traits with your magical abilities could be passed on to the next generations through these cattle and thus the future humanity can be saved!" He said manically standing up with his cock being pulled out of the girl's mouth and I realized she didn't even have fucking teeth...
"I thought I saw the depths people could fall with the riot you caused... But this is too much Shido... Are you even human anymore?" I said softly as I looked at the man and I literally lost all rage and fury at the man.
Although his words about how the devil worms didn't care to body jack humans once they were a crippled mess and thus unattractive to zombies like in World War Z were somewhat interesting. But in the end, I just focused on the man as I slipped my silenced pistol up
I couldn't even see him even as a monster that needed to be put down, all I could see of him was a broken man who went off the deep end just missed the despair on the road of insanity, and should have just taken his own life.
I didn't even say a word and with a pull of the trigger, Shido died with his brains being shot onto the large map of Japan that was gently lit up by amber lights behind him that made up the wall behind the raised desk.
