Chapter 215: Passing

With Jebron walking away, Minos was once again left by himself and he couldn't help but wonder if he showed a bit too much talent.

But considering he was planning on using the Talisman Guild as his backing, the more he could impress them, the better.

After all, the Talisman Guild wasn't just any force, rather it was one of the behemoths within the empire, its members wielding incredible influence not only here, but across the entire Alephora Continent.

With them, he could secure the basic safety net he needed to create his communication network, and also set Tinka and Rinka up to join good sects.

Those elite sects weren't easy at all to join, but it should be much easier with the help of the Talisman Guild.

All things considered, this was one step to heaven, and without it, Minos would have to struggle far more just to reach the same goal.

Tinka and Rinka also weren't getting any younger, so the sooner he could send them off, the better.

Of course this would also come with its own risks, such as those people who didn't want to see a genius of his caliber reach his peak.

But Minos was willing to take this risk for his family, after all, what was life without a little bit of risk?

Clearing his thoughts, Minos waited patiently for the exam to finish, and after another few hours, Jebron clapped heavily, signaling everyone to put their talisman quills down.

"Alright, for those who failed to create even a single talisman, I wish you better next time. You are dismissed." Jebron said, causing a few sad faces to slowly leave the room.

By the time everyone who had failed left, the room had cleared out by at least 80%, showing just how hard the test was.

One has to keep in mind that these were all talisman experts who have likely spent years in the craft, so for only 1 in 5 to pass is indicative of the exam's difficulty.

"For those still here, congratulations. Follow me and I'll get you all sorted." Jebron said with a smile, no longer as outsiders.

Now that they had earned their Four-Moon Talisman Certificate, they would become his future colleagues, so it was important to treat them with the appropriate level of respect.

Following behind Jebron, Minos noticed a few people staring at him, likely having overheard what Jebron had said to him.

Among them was Onald, who quickly ran up beside him with glittering eyes, as if ready to ask a hundred questions.

"I heard what Jebron said, how come you never told me you were some sort of super genius?" Onald whispered.

"You never asked." Minos replied.

"Do I need to ask?! Anyways, forget about that, just remember me in the future, your good ol buddy who helped you when the world abandoned you." Onald said, exaggerating his help as much as possible.

"Sure." Minos said with a laugh.

Onald wanted to talk more, but the group had already arrived at another room, and Jebron had once again spoken up.

"Those of you who received an average grade, you'll get a Four-Moon Bronze Certificate. You'll also receive 10% off any purchases made from the Talisman guild or associated businesses as well as gain limited access to our library and private store."

"Those who received a superb grade, you'll get a Four-Moon Silver Certificate. Instead of 10% off, you'll receive 30% off. You will also gain more access in the library as well as private store."

"As for perfect grades, you'll get a Four-Moon Gold Certificate as well as 50% off and also gain full access to our library as well as our private store."

"Alright now everyone line up to receive your certificates." Jebron said, finally finishing his short speech.

Quickly, the group formed a short line, Minos ending up in the back, but he didn't mind since only a few people had passed in the first place.

Soon enough, the first person came in front of Jebron, and after going through the man's IDs, Jebron handed him a special bronze card, four moons engraved on one side, whereas all his information was engraved on the other.

The next person came up, and once again, he received another bronze card, making it clear why it was called the 'average' grade.

Soon enough it was Onald's turn, and eventually, after all the bronzes, a silver card was finally administered, Onald holding onto it like it was his own child, his hands shaking slightly.

"Thank you sir!" Onald said gratefully, having fought so long just to earn this small card no bigger than his own palm.

"It's what you deserve." Jebron replied with a smile.

If he just wanted to earn a Bronze Certificate, he could have done that years ago, but coming from a noble family, his expectations were naturally higher.

Not to mention he knew full well the benefits of receiving a higher grade, which would make one's entire career in the Talisman Guild much smoother.

Originally he wanted to study even longer so as to try and obtain a perfect grade, but after some convincing from his family, he realized it likely wouldn't be worth it.

But who knew that some random fellow he met on the street was one of those geniuses he could only look up too?

So while he was excited to receive his certificate after so many sleepless nights, the feeling wasn't as strong as he imagined, likely due to Minos's presence.

Tucking away the card into his spatial ring, Onald gave Minos a nod before heading out of the room, leaving only Jebron and Minos.

"Minos, like I said before, a perfect grade isn't quite worthy of your capabilities, so I plan on using my authority to also give you 1000 guild points." Jebron said.

"Thank you." Minos said, despite not really knowing the value of 1000 guild points.

"You're more than welcome, and remember, if you need anything, feel free to ask me. Anyways, let me get your certificate." Jebron said.

After handing him his ID card, Jebron couldn't help but freeze slightly, realizing this was only a temporary ID given to visitors.

"You aren't a native?" Jebron couldn't help but ask.

"No, that's actually one of the reasons I came, I wanted to get citizenship." Minos explained.

"Ahh, I see. To think you could reach such a level outside of Aleph City, that's even more impressive! As for your citizenship, don't worry about that, I'll get it sorted for you." Jebron said, his evaluation of Minos raising even higher.

"There's also my family." Minos quickly added.

"Well with your credentials, you can receive up to ten family members. If you need more, just ask me, I know a few people."

"I just need two more, one for my wife and daughter." Minos explained.

"That's a simple matter. Just give me their ages and names and I'll have them ready along with yours." Jebron replied, trying to make things as easier for Minos as possible.

"I'll thank you in advance then." Minos said, before receiving his certificate, giving Jebron the information he needed, and then saying a final goodbye.

Back in the hallway, Minos was planning on heading straight home to give the good news, but before he could even take a step, he was crowded by a few foreign faces.

"Hello friend, it's nice meet, I'm Ae-"

"Ignore him, he's a nobody, however I can help you."

"Excuse those two fools, they don't know any better."

Overwhelmed by the sudden pushing and shoving, Minos could only use a bit of strength to forcefully create a space around him before raising his voice.

"Who are you people?" Minos said, his loud and magnetic voice immediately silencing the chaos and grabbing everyone's attention.

"Sorry sorry, we don't mean to be rude. We just want to make your acquaintance, after all, it's quite rare for someone to receive a perfect grade." Someone finally said, clearing Minos's slight confusion.

"Well if that's all there is, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you." Minos said, ignoring the crowd and walking on.

After pushing aside a dozen people, Minos finally escaped into the streets, quickly bolting through a few alleys before finally leaving everyone behind.

It seemed he had underestimated just how valuable a perfect grade was and it looked like his peaceful life was likely coming to an end.

Of course this was to be expected after he made his decision, so he was ready to deal with the consequences.

After brushing off his robe slightly and confirming no one was following him, Minos finally headed home.

After a short journey, the familiar doors came back into sight, and seeing Tinka and Rinka inside through the windows, a smile couldn't help but unconsciously form on his face.

Opening the door, Minos was immediately greeted with hugs and kisses from his two girls, making everything worth it.

"Dad you're finally home, look what we got!" Rinka said, running into the living room and jumping onto the new couch Tinka bought.

"How many times have I told you not to jump on our new couch with your dirty feet!" Tinka scolded, snatching her daughter midjump.

"Come on Tinka, have a little fun for once." Minos laughed, before forcefully grabbing her and jumping onto the couch, the family of three bouncing around.
