Chapter 68: Chapter 68 Her Broken Mate
"Who is she?" asked Sarah softly, little tears running down her cheeks.
Her mate is mute...she can not believe it. Damn hormones are bringing tears to her eyes.
Seth reached out his hand to her cheek and wiped away more tears. His touch triggered tingles and she had to smile at his warmth. That proved they really were buddies.
Thunder howled with joy at her mate's touch. Then he continued to write on the side of the notepad and noted,
'My mother'
His mother? Isn't that Luna Stella? If I remember correctly, she was the sweetest Luna I could remember - Sarah thought.
The pack only became strong and powerful under her rule alongside the Alpha.
"Why would she do such a thing?" she asked, growing more and more concerned.
But this time he did not answer.
Judging by his body language, he did not want to. Seth seemed slumped over, his shoulders sagging shamefully. But why?
After a series of attempts, Seth still refused to answer her questions about his mother. Deciding that it was pointless and that she would probably do more harm than good by doing so, she changed the subject to getting to know her friend better.
"Did you choose to be mute, or did your mother do something about it?"
He quickly replied, "She did something."
She nodded and asked, "What is your favorite color? Mine is actually not a color, it's a hue. It's black."
He grinned slightly and wrote, "White."
Gosh, his smile is so adorable - she thought.
"Dude?" she asked curiously.
He answered in writing with '22'.
The rest of the evening played out like that and she just loved it. Aside from the fact that Thunder was horny, everything was perfect. He was perfect. She never thought it would be so much fun to have a partner and wished it would never end.
At least, that's what she thought.

That evening, she attended the pack's dinner. She sat down in the seat next to Seth. The pack members still gave her surprised looks, but she was still welcomed with open arms. She appreciated that, but the only thing she did not appreciate were the looks from one particular she-wolf.
If she remembered correctly, her name was Kate. She was dating Seth, as far as she had heard. Their relationship only lasted about twenty-five minutes, but it was so easy for her to cling to him.
Was she jealous? That could be, but Sarah could not assume that without asking. Sarah could see her whispering to another pack member how ugly she was and that she was not qualified to sit next to Seth.
Are you serious?
The she-wolf had enough of this disrespect and wanted to know why this she-wolf was glaring at her before she ripped her throat out.
"Do we have a problem, Kate?" demanded Sarah, her authority already resounding around the room.
All conversation among the pack members fell silent at her question and the table went dead quiet. You could almost hear a pin drop. Everyone turned their heads to Kate to find out what was going on.
Kate's gaze softened before her eyes narrowed even further. "No, Luna. Everything's fine," she groaned angrily, gritting her teeth.
Sarah ignored her renewed disrespect and was determined to find out what was bothering her. Although she had only been back for a day, word had spread quickly that Seth had found his mate. As his Luna, and more importantly as the maternal figure of the pack, it is Sarah's job to take care of the pack members.
"Is that so? Then would you please explain to me why you are staring at me like that?" asked Sarah, putting her hand under her chin.
Honestly, Sarah just wanted to spend more time alone with Seth and not immediately take on the duties of a Luna, but that changed overnight just like that.
Kate seemed to snap, because she suddenly got up from her chair and slapped her hands on the table. Poor table. What was he doing to her?
"I keep staring at you because you do not deserve to be Luna! You show up out of nowhere and walk around the pack house like it's your own goddamn kingdom!"
Sarah frowned. "Excuse me?"
Her eye twitched, "Just like I said! Do you even know why the Alpha is mute? Were you even there when he needed you the most? Huh? Or are you that clueless about what's going on around you?"
Sarah's eyes widened; this was no jealous she-wolf. She cared that her alpha was in the right hands. The words died on her tongue as she tried to speak, not knowing what to say. Sarah did not have the answers, nor did she know what had happened to her mate, except that it had something to do with his mother. In some ways she was right, but Sarah will not tolerate her words.
How dare she?
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is our future
Luna. She is the one to whom we will entrust our lives and to whom we will entrust the pack. If it were up to me, I would be better qualified to be Luna.
Luna. She does not even know about our al-"
Bang!
The table shook as a thump on the table interrupted Kate's words, which dissolved as if they had never existed.
Sarah turned her head back in Seth's direction and saw his eyes black. Not with arousal, but with anger. His wolf wanted to come out, he wanted to protect his mate.
Sarah reached out her hands to him and ran them over his arms to steady him. Sparks flew between them and her body bubbled with warmth. He flinched a little when she touched him, but he calmed down again.
He clenched his jaw until his eyes misted over. At that point, she knew he was using the Mind Link. From the looks of it, Kate was biting her lip while her eyes were also misting up, and he was talking to her.
Kate looked down at the ground in shame before apologizing to Sarah. Sarah accepted her, but Kate's words stuck with her.
Dinner passed in silence and embarrassment, so Sarah quickly finished eating before going back upstairs to her room. She was heartbroken, and although she understood Seth's motives, she wanted to help him.
She is so useless.
Thunder wailed in her head, 'Do not let him drag you down like that girl. He'll tell us all right.'
She nodded curtly, but did not answer.
A knock on the door startled her, before she calmed down and made herself presentable.
When she opened the door, she looked at Seth with a worried look.
She let him enter and asked, "Do you need anything? Do you want me to sleep with you?" she blushed at her words. Once again, she must control herself. This is embarrassing.
Thunder did not seem to agree with that, because she started wiggling her butt again, wanting to be marked and mated.
Seth blushed, but he shook his head and seductively stroked her cheek. Almost as if to say, 'Are you okay?'
With a half smile, she gently replied, 'I am fine, thank you for coming to see me and for what you did earlier. I was going to say something, but you beat me to it."
She thought he was about to leave, but he held a hand-picked rose in his hand, which he hid behind him, and offered it to her. Her eyes widened in surprise, her heart clenched. She could see that he had hurt his hand a little, for roses have thorns. It seems he had never picked flowers before.
"Is that for me?"
Overjoyed, she abruptly kissed him on the cheek. Seth froze at the direct contact, but his cheeks flushed a little, making her giggle. He's so adorable.
He took out his notepad and began to write quickly. When he turned it over, it said, 'I will tell you someday, but not now. I am sorry.'
She smiled sheepishly, "That's all right. You do not have to apologize. Just tell me when you are ready."
Seth then left her room, but it was so strange. Why wouldn't he want her to sleep next to him? Usually partners mark each other the first day they meet. But Seth was different.
He kept her at an arm's length away, as if he was wary of her.
The real question was, what had Luna Stella done to make her mate mute?
