Chapter 39: Sand Village

Darkness encircled the vicinity, letting not a single spec of light enter its secret adobe. Yet, suddenly, in the midst of nothingness, a puff of white smoke spread throughout the cave, revealing a white-haired figure standing there.

It was Zeus, wearing a fresh black T-shirt that matched his violet trousers. In his hand, there was one single pack, full of Shima's homemade food. Despite finally leaving the Mountain Myoboku, there was a clear frown on Zeus's face.

He had asked Fukasaku to send him somewhere near the Sand Village, yet now he was in complete darkness. Did Fukasaku play a prank on him? Zeus didn't really understand how their summoning worked, but he knew that they had a few stations with insignia near each village, and Zeus, who just signed a summoning contract, could use those channels as well. Of course, with a help of an elder like Fukasaku.

"Maybe he sent me near the wrong village?" Zeus wondered, closing his eyes and activating the senjutsu mode, sharpening his senses. He passed through the tunnels filled with darkness, through the naturally created ponds, finally feeling the light of escape. His legs moved automatically, as he sped up towards the exit, getting there in a matter of a few seconds.

"It's hot."

This was the first sentence that escape from his mouth when he stepped out of the cave, his foot landing on soft sand. A deadly scenery opened up to him, revealing absolutely nothing. Literally. It was a completely shit-hole, and nothing but dessert surrounded him.

"Well, considering that there is sand, I guess Fukasaku didn't assign me to the wrong village." Zeus furrowed his eyes. "Though, is this what he considers to be near?"

Zeus didn't know whether to curse or thank the toad, but it indeed felt like he was being pranked. Sighing, Zeus took a few more steps forward, entering the sunlight. The heat started building up on his face immediately, drawing a frown from him. What he didn't like the most in this world was the heat.

Zeus closed his eyes, tracking down the path to the village. After standing still for a few minutes, Zeus sighed once again, understanding that it was really far away. After some deliberation, Zeus decided to deactivate the senjutsu mode, instead deciding to save his energy.

"I didn't imagine my arrival back in the normal world like this." Zeus sighed, continuing to walk down the path he had chosen. Actually, there was no real path, just sand everywhere he looked. Zeus kept on moving, sweat slowly building up on his forehead.

His throat started to go dry and Zeus took a few worms from his pack, eating them to make his throat less dry. It was really annoying walking in this kind of weather, and he wanted to have a glass of water. He kept on moving, hours passing like minutes.

Eventually, Zeus noticed a change in the surroundings. Over the horizon, five figures could be seen walking his way, threatening weapons held in their hands. However, in the midst of their dangerous-looking weapons, Zeus only saw one reason to pay any attention to them. One of them was holding onto a water bottle.

Not even waiting till they approached, Zeus activated Overlock, appearing in the middle of the group. An electrical chain formed in his hand, and only then did the five figures react. However, it was already too late. Four of them had their heads flying away, blood spluttering down onto the ground and their clothes.

The fifth figure, who was holding onto the water bottle, dropped the weapon from his hands, falling onto his knees in shock. His eyes darted across the dead bodies of his comrades, as fear for his own life overtook him. He raised his eyes, staring at the white-haired devil that has suddenly befallen like a calamity.

"Yo, man, give me that water bottle and your clothes. I don't want to be wearing anything bloody." Zeus mumbled quietly, yet it was loud enough for the man to hear. "I won't kill you if you do so fast."

That prompted the man to act fast and remove his entire gown. He stopped at the t-shirt, but Zeus's deadly gaze forced him to go down to his just his trousers. Grabbing everything, Zeus smiled and waved to the man, disappearing from the spot.

The man looked around once again, his breathing finally catching up to him, as he placed his hands against the sand in distress. His entire body trembled, but he forced it to calm down and remove the clothes from his former comrades, for he didn't want an early death from these shitty weather conditions.

"Even with water, this sand is annoying," Zeus mumbled, stretching his hand out in the sky, as he continued to advance toward the village. He could try to create a storm, but that would exhaust most of his chakra. The village was not so far anymore, so Zeus decided to simply continue torturing himself like that.

Eventually, Zeus walked up another sand dune, taking a peek over the horizon where he saw a huge village, surrounded by huge and thick stone mountains. In fact, those stone mountains looked somewhat artificial, making Zeus wonder whether they were built by human hands.

However, Zeus cared little about that. He was just happy that he had finally reached his destination. Extending his senses, Zeus activated Overlock, promptly rushing near the village. He felt people standing in the narrow entrance leading straight to the village, whilst there were only a few on these steep stone walls.

Perhaps they didn't think that it was possible to get there without being detected, but Zeus was going to do just that. Hiding beneath the sand, Zeus waited till the people on watch turned their heads in different directions. Then, Zeus, with his Overlock activated at 50%, traveled up the stone wall, encountering multiple traps along the way, yet passing through them unhindered.

He appeared on the top of the mountain, seeing multiple figures standing there. Before letting them even understand what was happening, Zeus passed through them like a bolt of lightning. Some of them finally got a glimpse of Zeus, but it was too late. They would never catch up to Zeus, and he was already in the town.

He hurried down from the cliff, hearing threatening voices from behind and completely ignoring them. Whilst the guards above have still not alerted anyone, Zeus landed on the ground, seeing numerous rock houses surrounding him. Thankfully, there were little to no people in the streets, and Zeus promptly extended his senses.

Zeus started running through the town, sensing houses with an abundance of individuals. Eventually, he felt a building completely empty of anything, probably having been abandoned. He jumped inside through the window, settling against the wall and taking a deep breath.

"Well, that was quite intense. Not going to lie." Zeus smiled. Initially, he didn't want to cause too much of a ruckus, for he was just here to investigate the Kage. However, the security was tighter than expected. Still, now that he was in the village, it was impossible for them to track him down, and he would just quickly finish up his business before leaving.

"Let's see what that Kazekage is about." Zeus smiled, extending his hands outwards, pushing chakra into his palms. Immediately, lightning gathered there, shifting into an animal. It took the form of a minuscule eagle, barely the size of Zeus's three fingers put together.

He sent it flying through the window and closed his eyes.
