Chapter 9: Chapter 9 - Snake out of the bag
Unfortunately, just as Touji and Thomas were about to return to Thomas's grandparent's house, Touji's phone started ringing. The man excused himself for a few seconds before coming back with a heavy mood all over him.
"I'm sorry, Thomas, Sister Griselda would come with Myra and Irina. While I would love for the two of you to meet, I fear that she might be against your friendship with my daughter, at least for now. I'll come tomorrow with Irina to your home to talk about going shopping in the magical side of London."
Reluctantly Thomas went back to his home, hoping that nothing would interfere once again. By some stroke of luck, Griselda didn't spend more than a few hours in town and because of that Touji and his family were invited over for dinner by Thomas's family.
After she got free from Griselda's lecture, Irina rushed towards Thomas's home, fearing that Griselda would up out of nowhere and put her thoughts to another horrifying theory test. Not even a minute after her teacher left, Irina alongside her family was standing in front of Paul's home, of course, they first called to ask if it was all right for them to come and talk about Thomas's future. Compared to her friend, Irina was excited to play with Thomas, especially after going through that torture her mother and Griselda calls teaching the basics, not that Thomas was looking forward to spending more time with his first friend.
As soon as the door opened, Irina smiled brightly before hugging Thomas who greeted them.
"Tom, I missed you!"
"Didn't we play yesterday?"
"It's different, stupid Tom!"
Touji and Myra were smiling at the two children as they follow them inside the house. Thomas then brought the trio to the living room where his parents and grandparents were already waiting for them. Once the adults sit at the table, Thomas grabs Irina's hand before turning to his parents.
"Mom, dad, Irina would come with me. We'll play up in my room."
Kate nodded at her son, finding him quite cute when he tried to act so mature around his girlfriend. As soon as the kids walk inside Thomas's room, Irina blushed for some reason making Thomas confused.
"Are you feeling all right? Did studying with Sister Griselda make you tired?"
"No, no, no! It was boring, that's all."
"So, what have you done in London? Did you buy something magical?"
Hearing his question, Irina put her hands on her face faking and crying as she starts telling her sad story.
"No…I wanted to get a pet, but mom didn't let me. S-he-she even threatened me when I start making a scene out there. It was awful, and because of that, she told the boss that I was not learning and training properly making the boss mad at me. "
"Boss?"
"Sister Griselda, I call her boss since she is my teacher, which makes her my boss."
"Oh, neat. Say, Irina, do you want to see something magical?"
"Magical? Like a flying pig?"
"No silly, like an intelligent cobra. Mars come here!"
At first, nothing happened, making Thomas glance at his bed, when out of nowhere from under his bed a not-so-small cobra slowly emerged, almost giving Irina a scare. When she saw the snake coming towards them, she quickly hides behind Thomas in hope that he would protect her from that monstrosity.
[You better have a good reason for waking me up, Thomas, or I swear to me that I will bite you until you can no longer cry.]
Ignoring his friend's threat, Thomas rolled his eyes before introducing Irina. [Mars this is Irina, my friend. Please don't scare her, I can't have her shout scared, especially when uncle Touji and aunty Myra are here.]
[You owe me a nice chicken leg otherwise I will chase her to hell and back.]
[Deal.]
[A pleasure doing business with you my humanlet friend.]
Right after he got what he wanted, Mars slowly approached Irina, who was almost in tears seeing the mean-looking snake coming towards her. If Thomas wasn't near her, she would have been already crying and screaming for help, but hearing the way her friend seemed to have been able to talk with the snake, calmed her a little.
"T-Tom what is that?"
"That's Mars, my friend. Mars this is Irina, my other friend."
Mars looked at her and hissed before turning around, leaving the two kids alone. The poor cobra was too old to deal with those humanlet after all. Once Mars went back to his home under the bed, Irina finally calmed down but was still wary of the snake.
While the kids were playing, Touji and Myra explained some things to Thomas's family, mostly about what little they know about the magical community here in the UK. Even though their worries didn't decrease, they realized just how different the life of a wizard was compared to their normal one.
Despite their worries, Jon and Kate could now understand why their baby was so scared of telling them the truth. None of them could even fathom just how scared their little boy was when he found out that his own powers hurt his family. It hurt more than anything knowing that they aren't able to help Thomas at all, even more so after Touji told them that not even he or his wife could help him gain better control of his magical powers. However, Touji did promise them that he would do anything he can to get a permit that would allow Thomas and one of his parents to enter Diagon Alley by the time Thomas became nine.
Yes, it was a pain to get a proper permit when you belonged to another faction that isn't allied or on great terms with the faction of the country you reside in, but it was the least Touji could do after Thomas somehow manage to ignite something inside of his daughter.
Just like that, an entire year went by with Thomas spending his entire weekends as well as his holidays at his grandparents' house alongside Irina. Learning as much as he could about spells and magic, but also trained his swordsmanship so that he would not fall behind his friend. For some reason being in the second grade made Thomas one of the most hated kids in his school, mostly due to his sudden change which made quite a few girls have a crush on him.
Luckily for him, he would only need to spend two more years in a normal school before he would finally get admitted into a proper magical school.
