Chapter 23: Hunting Competition (5)

"Forty six...Forty seven...", Shi Feng counted, "With the wild boar king's boar tusks, this makes it forty nine boar tusks. I am afraid we really depleted the forest of wild boar tusks this time around!"

After dealing with the wild boar king, the group continued to hunt, using their night hunting sessions as fundamentals. They knew the forest like the back of their hands, and Tang Chi's mastery of the [Blood Stalker Gu] worm allowed to track down all the wild boars that had been injured by other groups and left so much as a drop of blood behind them.

However, the amount of boars they managed to hunt in these three days did not even reach fifteen. After all, wild boars were scarce, and after realizing they were being hunted, they started to be more cautious, some going so far as to leave the limits set by the Gu Masters who oversaw the competition. The vast majority of their boar tusks came from the hunting of the wild boar kings, where countless remnants of boars were lying.

Usually, a wild boar king would have dozens, if not hundreds of wild boars with them, but the wild boar king they hunted was a bit special, and it was a newly advanced rank 1 wild beast, allowing them to take it down when it was in its weakest form. Although it was huge, it did not have any time to gather a [Gu] either, which made the hunt much easier.

"It is time to return to the instructors", Mo Bei said, "Even if we did not manage to reach 50 boar tusks, just the wild boar king tusks should be enough to secure the first place"

Later, Mo Bei watched with interest as he looked at the various teams of students giving their boar tusks to the academy elders. Hunting alone had proved ineffective, causing most of the students to eventually gather in groups of three or four. Some, who possessed more influence, gathered more subordinates, like Chi Chen.

The academy elder received the paper and started reading the results without paying much attention. "This year's examination results are as follows: Gu Yue Chi Chen obtained eight tusks, Gu Yue Fang Zheng obtained six tusks" The students around him became alert as the results became clear

Although Chi Chen had gotten more boar tusks, he also had a much bigger group, so the grades would be downplayed accordingly. However, it was clear that Fang Zheng had suffered a lot in this boar hunting competition. Without supporters, he could only rely on his own skills to complete the assignment, but a man alone could only do so much.

D grade students could only obtain one or two tusks even if they worked together, while the C grades could get at most three to four tusks. Those with more than three tusks were considered good performers. Gu Yue Chi Cheng got the highest score with eight tusks, followed by Fang Zheng with six tusks.

Gu Yue Chi Chen looked pleased with himself, as he had gotten lucky and found two wild boars fighting, resulting in an easy reward. Naturally, Gu Yue Fang Zheng was upset because Chi Cheng had surpassed him in this competition.

However, everyone knew that neither Fang Zheng nor Chi Chen would win the competition. All of them looked at the class representative Mo Bei and his two subordinates Shi Feng and Tang Chi. Everyone knew that Mo Bei was the strongest in the class, being the first one to have broken through the upper stage. Everyone also knew that despite being subordinates, Shi Feng and Tang Chi were far stronger than the average C-grade talents due to their positions in the class providing them with more resources.

"Mo Bei, you are late," Chi Chen shouted

Mo Bei looked at the future Chi family heir with a bit of scorn, saying: "I actually arrived before all of you. I was just waiting for the competition to almost finish for the sake of dramatic effect"

Ignoring Chi Chen, Tang Chi opened the bag on her back and emptied it, revealing dozens of wild boar tusks. Shi Feng quickly followed her.

The crowd was shocked, and Chi Chen was speechless. The academy elder couldn't believe it either.

"You...Did they hunt the boars by themselves?", he asked in a stern voice, his eyes in complete disbelief

Of course, Mo Bei did not answer, knowing that the question was not adressed to him, but to the instructors who followed them

"Sir, they have hunted thirteen wild boars by themselves", an instructor said, dispelling his [Shadow Veil] Gu, which allowed him to camouflage himself in shadows

The students gasped in amazement, seeing the effect of this rare Gu worm in action. However, Mo Bei knew that it had quite obvious limitations, one of them being that you could not breathe when using it, reducing its time of usage. However, they were even more amazed to learn that Mo Bei had managed to hunt thirteen wild boars on their own, making it almost twice the amount gathered by Chi Chen, once again showing that Mo Bei was an overlord.

They were definitely not ready for what the instructor had to say: "As you can see, there are two bigger-sized boar tusks too, which belonged to a newly advanced rank 1 boar king. They managed to ambush it and kill it, a feat that most rank 1 Gu Masters would not dare to think about"

The academy elder's jaw dropped. The shock was just too big.

Mo Bei smiled as he moved forward, asking the academy elder: "I know the reward for this competition was only one Gu worm, but since we all contributed to the hunt of a wild boar king, we should receive additional rewards"

The academy elder did not answer, not knowing how to react. The instructors who watched the scene also felt uneasy.

'This boy is not even sixteen, and he has already surpassed us...', they all thought at the same time

It must be known that instructors were often Gu Masters with lesser talents or cowards who did not like the risks associated with teams of Gu Masters who joined a branch of the Gu Yue Clan military force. Choosing the academy branch upon graduation was akin to limit one's future, as the opportunities for growth were few and scarce. There were also retired Gu Masters, but they would often prefer the logistic branches over the academy branch, leaving mostly rank 1 middle and upper stage as instructors.

The fact that he possessed a Liquor worm made Mo Bei much stronger than them based on cultivation only.

The academy elder sighed: "You will naturally get 47 primeval stones for the boar tusks, and 20 from the wild boar king tusks. You have completely exceeded my expectations. You three, take this token to Jiang Ya. You should be able to receive one Gu worm each from him"
