Chapter 25: She Forgot

**************

CHAPTER 25

The next day came quicker than Skai had imagined while her mind completely forgot the warning Damien left for her.

To top it up, she also forgot the dinner of her family and buried herself in house chores with music playing in the background.

By and by the hours ran by and soon it was already 3 P.M.

Ring! Ring!

Her mind was jolted from what she was cooking when the sound of her ringtone interjected her music.

"Hmm, who remembers my existence?" Skai asked no one in particular as she hurried out of the kitchen to get her phone from the living area.

"I'm…" She had a moment of surprise when she saw the caller ID. "Damien?"

She squinted at her phone before picking it up and answering the call on speakerphone.

"Hello?"

"Took you long enough," Damien muttered. Sadly, she heard it all.

He was one heck of a busy man. Impatient even, that staying on a call waiting for the receiver felt like an eternity.

"Good afternoon, Skai."

"Sir. Afternoon, what can I do for you?"

Damien's eyebrows furrowed. What was the meaning of that question?

Before he could let his anger rise, a thought popped into his mind.

'Wait, don't tell me she forgot!'

He took in a deep breath, trying to control the urge to yell at her. He clearly went out of his way to properly remind her.

"Skai?"

"Sir?"

"What is today?"

"Saturday, sir."

"And?"

Skai blinked severally. She wasn't getting the picture he was hoping she'd see.

"And…?"

At this point, Damien facepalmed. He couldn't believe this.

"Judging by your reaction means you forgot and probably haven't gotten it yet," he speculated. Still, her brain remained lost.

"Skai?"

At the same time, a message notification popped on her phone screen, drawing her attention to it.

It was a esaage from Davion.

Davion: Hey, Skai. Good day. I simply want to thank you for agreeing to attend the dinner. Have fun.

Upon hearing the word "dinner," Skai's pupils widened.

She forgot.

Instantly she recalled Damien's words to her the previous day. Only now did what he said make sense to her.

'Oh shit! The dinner!' She exclaimed in her mind as she immediately remembered the dinner party that Davion had told her about.

"Umm… sir," she stammered after some seconds of silence.

"Now you recall?" Although Damien's sarcastic tone was evident, she chose not to voice any complaints.

Damien had to muster all his self-control to resist scoffing or sneering at her. How could one be so forgetful on such an important occasion?

<Damien: Isn't it curious how forgetfulness can strike at the most crucial moments?>

<Skai: *Pout* I for…>

<Damien: Exactly my point!>

<Author: Hehehe, she got busy thinking of you. *Wink*>

<Skai: Author!>

"6 P.M. be ready. Don't make me wait," Damien prompted her.

"Yes si…"

Beep! Beep!

Skai's brows knitted. Did Damien just ebnd the call on her before she got a chance to respond? All of her senses was geared into wanting to fume and let her anger out, when her eyes caught sight of the time.

Suddenly, Skai's heart skipped a beat as a wave of panic washed over her.

Her hand raked through her hair, her mind racing on what to do. "Wait..." Her eyes darted about. "What am I going to wear?" she asked herself.

Without wasting time, she quickly tapped her phone while making her way to the kitchen to turn off the gas before proceeding to her room to seek a solution, or more specifically, Kiera.

The instant the call connected, Skai's eager voice rushed in. "Kiera, I need your help."

As soon as Skai voiced those words, Kiera's mother-hen instincts kicked in, panic rising in her voice.

"What happened?"

"I have a dinner party to attend this evening and till now I do not know what I am going to wear."

Alarm struck when Kiera heard those words. Not because she could not help her friend but because she was just the right person to call.

Fashion and preparation were her niche. However, she needed time.

"Alright, I'm on my way."

Getting that assuring response from one of her best friend's, Skai heaved a deep sigh and immediately opened her wardrobe.

~30 Minutes Later~

"What?! You're going out with Raphael?" Kiera exclaimed after Skai's quick briefing on the situation/

Skai facepalmed. Did everything she just said fly out the window of her friend's brain or what?

"I said business dinner. I am only accompanying him. Nothing more."

Kiera placed a hand on her waist, rolling her eyes at her friend. "Duh!"

Mimicking her eye roll, Skai shook her head.

"An outing is still an outing. Or rather, I should say, a date."

"It is no…" Skai waved her palm dismissively at her. "You know what? Forget it! Help me out, that's why you're here."

"Fine let's just get started already and…"

Ding! Dong!

Both Skai and Kiera shot their head in the direction of the door before fixing their gaze on each other.

"Expecting anyone?" Kiera questioned quickly.

"Nope. Just Damien and even that is till 6," Skai explained. "I'll be right back. Let me get it."

She excused herself, leaving Kiera in the room and went straight for the door. Skai did not think much to it when she opened her door only to be met with three packages and a delivery guy.

"Ma'am, I have a delivery for Ms. Skai, please."

"That's me."

"Great then, please sign here."

As soon as she got the packages, Skai rushed back into her room, calling Kiera's name.

"What is it?" Kiera jumped from where she sat and hurried to meet Skai.

"Come help me get these," Skai said, rushing back to the main door to carry what she could, two of the boxes. Kiera trailed behind her and helped her with the last one.

Unable to contain her curiosity, Kiera asked as they made their way to the room. "Who came to drop them?"

"Just a delivery guy."

"Did he say who they were from?" Kiera continued her mini interrogation.

"Not a word. Here, help me open that," Skai aske of Kiera as soon as they dropped all three packages on her bed.

"Let's start with the big one." Kiera suggested and Skai agreed.

"OH MY GOD!" Kiera gasped, her eyes wide and mouth shaped like a 'O', expressing her surprise.
