Chapter 13: Diagnosed with an illness
The doctor came out and immediately removed the gloves which were still on his hands and looked at the people sitting. He approached them. "doctor, how is she doing" Tracy asked standing up immediately she saw the doctor worry written all over her face
"she is doing fine, though she lost a lot of blood and the stab was deep, but thankfully she was brought here on time" he said assuring everyone that Amy was fine
"ah, who is her family member here?" he asked looking at all of them
"I am, I'm her stepmother" Tracy said using her hand to indicate
"may we see at the office please" he said to her. Now Tracy who seemed to have calmed down became all worried over again, what had happened to Amy?, how did she end up getting stabbed?. all these questions and more were what was scattering her mind
she followed the doctor into the office and the doctor motioned for her to sit. " I know you must be worried seeing I asked for a family member" he said to her after reading her facial expressions
"yes doctor, is anything else the matter" she asked the doctor. she hoped it was not something serious, she couldn't bear to loose Amy now or at anytime at all
The doctor sighed and paused for some seconds before he began to speak "during the operation, we noticed that her heart was not beating well, she looked more pale than usual so we decided to run some tests on her and found out that she has heart failure and also, she has slipped into a coma, but from what I can tell it'll be a shirt time coma, so please don't worry too much". Tracy sat there frozen, shocked and confused, was this really happening?, did she hear the doctor right?, heart failure?. she hoped it was all a lie or even a prank at most
"doc...doctor, what did you just say?, she has an heart failure?, how come?, what caused it?" she asked hurriedly hoping the doctor would still say it's a lie
"I'm sorry ma'am, what i will request you to do is to make her come for a time to time check-up and if worst be the case then she'd need a heart transplant"
Tracy was still shocked, never in her life did she see this coming. she didn't expect that a day like this would come. Transplant?, oh lord help her. "Thank you doctor, by the way can I see her now?" she asked
"of course, she would have been moved to another ward by now so you can see her" he replied her. "Thank you once again" she said and left his office
She got to where others were sitting and others were simply worried and concerned as it showed on their faces. she had been gone for quite some time now and they were eagerly waiting to hear what the doctor had discussed with her
She sat down and looked at their faces
. "it'll be best if I don't tell them what's going on so they wouldn't be worried " she said to herself
"Mrs Blake, what did the doctor say" Courtney asked immediately Tracy sat down. "you don't have to worry Courtney, she is okay. he just discussed the bill and some other minor things"
Courtney breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed on her chair
Tracy looked at everyone there then noticed Christopher standing, she wondered who he was. "what's your name dear" she asked Christopher which made him look up
"it's Christopher ma'am, and I'm a friend of Amy" he replied. Tracy looked at Christopher from top to bottom. The way he dressed and the way he seemed to carry himself and even speak seemed graceful and different. who exactly was he?, was the question running through her mind.
she nodded and looked at him one more time. come to think of it he does look familiar she said to herself. she tried to think so she could remember if she had seen him somewhere but gave up at the end when she did not recall a thing about him
"ah, yes when do we get to see Amy" Courtney asked. " we can see her now, only I don't know which ward she was transferred to" Tracy said
"oh, we know...the nurse told us after they had finished the surgery " Courtney said standing up and then they all went to her ward

Everyone entered the ward and saw Amy lying on the bed not moving, her stomach was bandaged even though they couldn't really see it but the hospital gown she was in has a light texture so they could tell
Everyone's eyes were full of tears, except Christopher whose expressions had not changed since he arrived. Courtney and Tracy moved closer while Christopher stayed close to the door
Tracy traced her hands along Amy's face an that hit the final strength she had gathered and she burst out crying. Courtney held her and was also crying. Seeing amy in this state was not something they'd dreamed would happen ever
"I should have looked after you and not let you leave the house at all. it's my fault, it's my fault" Tracy said crying the more. the news the doctor told her kept playing in her head
"I know you're a strong girl and would get through this. do well and recover quickly so you can chat with your friends and smile like you used to" she said holding Amy's hand in hers
"she definitely will. she's the strongest person I know" Courtney said amidst tears
Christopher stood back watching all that was happening before him. How did Amy end up like this, here in the hospital and stabbed?. None of it made sense since they had seen a couple of hours ago and she was fine. Seeing her there made him feel bad and angry. whoever had made Amy like this would pay dearly
"It's getting late already, Mrs Blake you need to go home, I'll look after her " Courtney said sounding concerned
"No, I can't leave her in this state at all, I'll stay with her all night" Tracy refused
"Alright but you need to eat so you would have strength, Amy would not want to see you weak when she wakes up" Courtney said, she was worried that at this rate Tracy might faint or something
"okay, I will " Tracy said finally agreeing with Courtney
"Alright then I'll go get us some snacks" she stood up and was about to leave when she saw Christopher. "would you like some snacks too?" she asked him
"No, thank you" he replied her. he needed to be home to start finding whoever did this to Amy. Courtney nodded and left
"I'll be on my way now ma'am" he said making Tracy to face him. "Thank you very much Christopher for being here" she said to him expressing her gratitude
"it's alright ma'am, I'll be leaving now" he bid off and left. Tracy turned back looking at Amy. she hope she would over come this.
Some minutes after, Courtney came back with the snacks and they ate and slept on the couch in the ward

The next morning
Courtney opened her eyes as her alarm rang loudly. she put off the alarm and checked the time. shit, she'd be late for class she said to herself. looking around the room she saw Tracy sitting beside Amy's bed looking intently at her. She wished Amy to recover quickly
She picked up her bag and stood up and went beside Tracy. "Good morning Mrs blake" she greeted Tracy. "Good morning, do you have lecture this morning?" Tracy asked her
"Yes, and we also have a project we are working on and she's also part of the group, but don't worry I'll let the lecturer know what happened " she said reassuring Tracy. "Thank you very much" Tracy said smiling and holding her hands
"I have to go now" Courtney removed her hands and said then went out
Tracy decided instead of staying around and crying, she would just go home and freshen up and then come back. She stood up and went home

Later that same morning
Christopher entered the hospital in his all black clothing as usual. He asked the receptionist for doctor max, he had seen the name tag on his cloth the day before. He told the receptionist he needed to see him for something important. She looked up and saw it was the almighty Christopher han that made the heart of girls beat faster than usual, the head of han publishing. she was shocked to an extent that she left her mouth wide open. Christopher smiled, he usually got reactions when he goes somewhere and he's recognized.
He cleared his throat which brought the receptionist out of her trance. She smiled and immediately made a call to his office and informed him and he told her to let Christopher come. He thanked her and went to his office
He knocked on his office and entered. "Good morning Mr han" the doctor greeted him and motioned for him to sit. " Good morning doctor" Christopher answered and sat down
"To what do I owe this visit Mr han" the doctor asked him
"It's about my friend that was rushed in here yesterday due to stabbing" Christopher answered him. "I know there's more than what you told us yesterday, because I saw the expressions on her mother's face after she came out from your office, so I want to know what those things are" he said again
"ah, you see Mr han that is confidential information and I cannot share it with you since you're not her family member. I'm sorry" the doctor said bowing his head a bit
"it's okay doctor, but just so you know I'm her boyfriend and it'll be bad if I don't know anything about my girlfriend's health status" Christopher said nonchalantly which made the doctor smile
"okay then, we noticed she had heart failure yesterday while operating on her. we will keep her on medications once she wakes up and she might need a heart transplant later on if things get worse. Also she's currently in a coma" he said with a serious tone
Christopher's expression didn't change despite all that he just heard. "you have to make sure she's okay, move her to a private ward, I'll pay the bills" he said to the doctor
"oh okay, we will do that right now sir" he said and informed a nurse
After some minutes a nurse came in and informed the doctor that she has been moved to the private ward. Christopher stood and was led to the ward. He entered and went to sit beside her immediately. He looked at her pale skin and the way she laid there not moving. He knew he liked her but he couldn't bear seeing her in this state at all. He just sat there recalling their memories together.
Earlier he had said he was her boyfriend because he needed to know what Tracy's mom kept for them and to know if there's anything he could do
The door to the room opened showing Tracy and Sarah. They entered the room and stared in awe at how a private ward could look so different from the public ward. They saw a man sitting down there and were confused especially sarah. Tracy headed to Amy's bed and saw Christopher. that's why his aura felt familiar
"Good morning Ma'am" Christopher greeted Tracy as she came closer. "Morning Mr han" she answered him bowing slightly. Christopher was confused because last night she didn't address him formally and in this kind of way. "No, ma'am, you don't need to bow or greet me formally, I'm just like your son" he said standing up making her chuckle. However, Sarah just stayed back watching all these drama unfold in front of her. 'who was this man that her mom greeted in this way?', 'telling from the way he dressed and carried himself I can bet he's a big shot' and ' why is he here in Amy's ward?'. these and may questions ran through her mind
"ah, it's just that you looked familiar yesterday and I didn't know you were the one until I checked it up online this morning" she said smiling making him smile too
"it's okay Mrs...?" he asked
"it's Blake" she answered
"okay Mrs Blake, there's no need to be so formal with me considering we might be families soon" he said and smiled
Sarah's ear shot up at that and went closer to them. Getting there she was shocked at the man she saw "Christopher han?" she said aloud and covered her mouth immediately in surprise. she could not believe her eyes. 'So he knows amy?, and what was that about becoming families?'. she collected herself immediately and smiled. she put out her hand to shake him. he hesitated but shook her hand. with no shame she rubbed his hands which made him feel uncomfortable and he withdrew his hand
"ahem, I was just here to see how she was doing and also I've paid the hospital bills you do not have to bother yourself about it" he faced tracy smiling
"Thank you so much Christopher " she smiled and replied him
"I have to go now" he said then left
Sarah was still shocked and couldn't believe the Christopher han was here. she moved closer to her mom and asked "how come he was here?". "I also don't know, I think he's friends with Amy in school or something. And he came here yesterday after hearing what happened "
"oh, is that so?" she said now facing Amy and looking at her with jealousy and hatred written all over her face. She couldn't bear to believe that she's friends with Christopher. 'why does she always get the good things?'...' i'm sure she sold herself to him or even bewitched him' she thought to herself
