Chapter 17: We're Getting married
what did you just say?" She asked after what felt like decades
"Do you mean you've been home all day?" She asked again
"Y...yes, where else could I be if not home?" Ryan replied. Catherine didn't say anything else. She hung up the call on him, and cried her eyes out.
"Why was she sounding so upset?" He asked himself
"Did she find out I went out with Kyla?" He asked himself again and like something struck him, he ran down the stairs to his butler
"Did I get a call when I was out with Kyla?" He asked
"Oh yes sir, I forgot to tell you, Miss Catherine called sir" He replied
"Oh no!" Ryan exclaimed as he redialed Catherine's number, but she wasn't taking her calls.
"I've got to see her" he said as he grabbed his Keys from the table top and hurried out of his house.
Meanwhile, Catherine dressed up and headed out to Kyla's house.
"I shouldn't let my imaginations run wild, I'll ask Kyla in person." She said to herself. As she drove, she put a call through to Kyla
"Where you at?" She asked in the calmest tone.
"I'm at home Cathy, I went out for work but I'm back now" Kyla replied
"I'm coming over" Catherine said
"Really? Th...that's fine, Greg's here too, but he's been asking me weird questions. You..."
"I'll be right there " Catherine said interrupting her and hung up the call almost immediately. Ten minutes later, Ryan arrived at Catherine's house. He punched the door bells severally but no one came to the door.
"I guess no one's in" he said to himself. As he turned to leave, Greg's call came through.
"Hello Greg" he spoke in a worried tone
"Get yourself here, we re waiting for you in Kyla's apartment" Greg said. From his tone, Ryan could tell he was upset. Quickly, he rode to Kyla's and hurried up the stairs to her apartment. As he walked in, the whole room was tensed up. There was Catherine sitting with her had buried in her palms, and Greg was sitting by the window with a cigar in his mouth though he was yet to light it up. Ryan looked at Kyla who was busy arranging the bottles of beer she had just got out of the refrigerator.
"Cathy..." He said as he walked to her. He sat close to her but she didn't move an inch.
"What's going on here, why are you in such a bad mood" he asked
"We should be asking you that" came Greg
"What?" Ryan replied
"What do you mean?" He asked again. Gregory finally stood to his feet and lit his cigarette, but he didn't speak a word until he had taken a drag.
"What are you and Kyla hiding from us?" He asked as curls of smoke escaped his mouth
"You can't smoke in here, you..."
"Give me an answer!" He yelled interrupting Kyla.
"Relax man!" Ryan spoke up. He looked to Kyla and shook his head in negative.
"Do you really have to?" She asked
"Yes." Ryan replied
"I'm sorry Cathy this is all because of me." He said taking her hand.
"I'm sorry I had to lie to you. Kyla and I went to Aredian Smith Defense." He said but Catherine said nothing in reply.
"What for?" Greg asked
"Kyla figured out a way to help us get rid of Sophia without calling off the deal between Aredian Smith Defense and Walker Airlines." He blurted out. Catherine and Gregory exchanged knowing looks.
"How do you intend to do that?" Catherine asked Kyla
"Umm... actually..." She struggled for words
"It's a bit complicated but not impossible " she said
"What do you mean complicated?" Gregory asked Kyla took in deep breaths and without thinking how much her reply could affect both Greg and Catherine negatively, she voiced out
"Ryan and I are getting married!" She said.
